Had to work to level as the site sloped and our wheelbase is long. Plenty of trees and an outstanding ocean view after a short walk. Some rigs opt for lower power and can get a nice view, but we chose to camp in the trees. We camped at Hide Away Campground & Oyster Market in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

We explored the St Paul Island lighthouse museum in Dingwall and another museum in Point North. We also drove through Cape Breton National Park. Be prepared for 13% grades.

First of all, this CG is in South Harbor, not Dingwall. Our site was somewhat unlevel, but had lots of trees and lots of room. We had excellent wifi. We had requested it and were close to the office. I don't know about the other sites. The oysters for sale at the office were some of the best I've had. We had some both nights of our visit--along with lobster, also on sale, cooked. The road ends at the CG, but if you turn left there is a trail that leads to a pretty beach. We camped at Hide Away Campground & Oyster Market in a Travel Trailer.

Fantastic water views. Very nice and clean restrooms and showers. $1 per 5 minutes for hot showers. Several hiking trails surrounding the campground. Wifi did not reach site, need to go to office or rec room to get a reliable signal. Fresh lobster and oysters for sale in the office/dining room. We camped at Hide Away Campground & Oyster Market in a Motorhome.

Overall Rating:

A pleasant campground, with a few buts: The staff is somewhat unfriendly. They knocked at our door and wanted us to leave since we were 2 hrs over checkout time. Yet, the campground was nearly empty. It was in the middle of the week outside holiday season and weather was bad. Quite unlikely, someone urgently needed our site... Other than that, it was OK. Bathrooms are clean, showers are $1 for 6 minutes. Laundry does not clean very well. Wi-Fi works only immediately next to the office, not on sites or in recreation room. Playground is pretty basic. We camped at Hide Away Campground & Oyster Market in a Truck Camper.

Overall Rating:

Enjoyed our stay at this friendly, quiet small park just above the top of the Cabot Trail. Owners were well organized and had good input on local whale watching boat nearby which we took and loved. Cold cooked lobster or snow crabs are sold at the office, or fresh shucked oysters. Our site was up the hill in an open grassy area with a wonderful view of the cliff in the distance and bay below. Other sites are wooded. Wi-Fi available at office. There are four private individual shower plus toilet and sink combo units, two each for men and women. Showers at $1 for five minutes appeared quite clean, though I did not use. This park is a good value and I would certainly stay here again, as it makes a good way to break a Cabot Trail tour in half. We camped at Hide Away Campground & Oyster Market in a Motorhome.

Date of Stay: June, 2012 - $30.00
Overall Rating:

The previous review is accurate, but the park website said they'd have oysters, crab, and lobsters cooked for sale. Maybe we were too early in the season, but none of that was true. We reserved this campsite in the hopes of having lobster every day. The mgr. said we should visit the local co-op and buy our own and cook it ourselves-but we don't pack any pots large enough. Also, what is it with paying for showers? Isn't $30/night enough without paying $1 extra for a 5 min. shower? We were disappointed. We camped at Hide Away Campground & Oyster Market in a Motorhome.

Overall Rating:

This park has most things an Rver could ask for. They offer treed or open sites, some with great views as well as a very private beach down a back road. They have a few full hookup sites but most are either power or unserviced. They also operate an oyster farm, so for those who like fresh oysters they are available at the office. They even offer a tour of their facility. They now also offer WI-FI. We would certainly return if in the area and stay for more than a few days! We camped at Hide Away Campground & Oyster Market in a Travel Trailer.

Overall Rating:

This park is exceptional in that the staff (owners) are extremely friendly and helpful. The store provides all the necessities, and they know their area very well. The sites are kept very clean, and many offer quite a bit of privacy, while there are also some open sites for those who prefer them. Security is patrolling regularly to make sure everyone's safe and happy, and all garbage is removed regularly. The showers and toilets are very clean (showers do cost $1 for each 5 minutes but for a quick shower, it's great). Nice sized bundles of wood are $5 per bundle, kept in a dry shed. The scenery is beautiful and it's convenient to some of the most beautiful areas in Cape Breton. Highly recommended, booking there again in a few weeks! We camped at Hide Away Campground & Oyster Market in a Tent Trailer.
