This park has been around for quite awhile and getting a little tired looking. Outdoor pool has been filled in to be a pet off-leash area. Sites are tiered and overlooking Bras d'or Lake giving a beautiful view for everyone. Staff are very helpful and friendly. We camped at North Sydney / Cabot Trail KOA in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

Great location.....close for a basecamp to the Cabot Trail. Baddeck is worth a visit to see the Alexander Graham Bell Museum. Lots of touristy spots in town too. Shopping is available in North Sydney nearby for any needs. Closest gas station at least 20 minutes away.

About average for a KOA. Interior roads and camp sites are gravel. The roads are very dusty. Park is terraced so all camp sites have a good view of water and are long and level level. Our site 8 was a pull through 50 amp FHU site (no cable). Each site has a small picnic table. Most sites are spacious and open, we had no trouble accessing satellite. WiFi was slow but adequate for email and internet. I had to leave one day early to have my MH engine checked and appreciated the staff refunding the rental fee. We camped at North Sydney / Cabot Trail KOA in a Motorhome.

Nice location on Bras D'Or Lake and just off the highway. Sites are fairly large but with little shade. Noise from highway not a problem. Laundry room is sort of outdoors but not an issue as indicated in some reviews. $1.50/wash, $3.00/dry. Bathrooms clean but they could use more (2 toilets and 2 showers). Firewood is $8 a bundle and delivered with kindling and paper. We camped at North Sydney / Cabot Trail KOA in a Travel Trailer.

The only point lost was because it is a little on the pricey side & no fire ring at site. There was a guy playing bagpipes near the office when we arrived. Nice touch. Apparently he does that quite often. It looks like they have addressed any power issues. Recently installed, not weathered, boxes are visible around the CG. Looks like some work has been done on the water spigots too. We camped at North Sydney / Cabot Trail KOA in a Fifth Wheel.

We stayed here two weeks.

Incredible staff, all of them. Genuine and extremely helpful.

Awesome bathrooms, incredible views, superb location, and just a perfect place to get to know the area and prepare for the Cabot trail trip which begins about 45 minutes from there. There were campgrounds closer but I would not have traded it. We camped at North Sydney / Cabot Trail KOA in a Travel Trailer.

Tips for other Campers:

Instead of the pull-through sites, try the back-in sites on the front, which are right in front of the water (if you have a not too large trailer). Mine was 24 feet and fit perfectly, bigger than that and you might be tight.

Overall Rating:

This is typical KOA that has seen better days and is now very tired and worn out. The hosts at check in were very friendly and helpful and a mine of information on anything to do with the area. The interior road is gravel. The campground is set on three elevated grass levels and our very spacious long and level pull through site was grass and gravel, with a wonderful view of the Bras D'or Lake and Seal Island Bridge from our front window. Very quiet, some privacy and plenty of space for our towed, a few shade trees but not every site had them, lots of grass between you and your neighbor as well as a picnic table. Bathrooms were clean but dated, however the outside laundry, as noted by a previous reviewer, was a disgrace, and thankfully I did my laundry before we arrived, it was filthy with cobwebs, spiders and assorted bugs everywhere, just plain nasty! A sign on the front fence said the campground was security patrolled, it's very pet friendly but no pick up bags or disposal station. Big rig access was good as was WiFi and cell. There are a couple of restaurants just over the bridge with food stores and more restaurants in North Sydney. This is a good location with plenty of sightseeing in every direction. This campground could be a goldmine, but the owner needs to spend some money and time on the place. Despite the few negatives, we would certainly stay here again, the great location and the wonderful views are the things that really make this campground. We camped at North Sydney / Cabot Trail KOA in a Motorhome.

Fantastic views of the waterway. Not very crowded during our stay so fairly quiet but given spacing during busier times could be noisier. The highway noise was not terribly loud but given how quiet it was the trucks could be heard at night. Very friendly and helpful camp personnel. All facilities seemed to be well cared for (restrooms, showers, laundry, mini golf, playground, etc) We camped at North Sydney / Cabot Trail KOA in a Motorhome.

We used this park as our base before catching the ferry to Newfoundland. It is clean, well-managed, and very well maintained. It was not noisy; no rock quarry work ongoing at this time. There are several pull-through sites for big rigs (30 amp) as well as a few back-in sites (50amp). Sites are level and grassy; they could be muddy if it was really raining. Very friendly staff, full of information, and they escort you to your site. WiFi was good and fast. Price reflects US$; full hookups/30amp. Price listed is US Dollars as instructed. This includes the KOA discount.

First let me say that the staff here is extremely helpful. When you arrive they give you details of the park (where to find restrooms, laundry, showers, etc) and then they lead you to your site.

If I hadn't read the other reviews that mentioned electrical power issues, I probably wouldn't even have bothered to rate this park because everything turned out just fine for us. However, because I see in past reviews electrical problems have been an issue I thought it best to tell you that while we were there the park experienced a huge power surge that caused multiple problems for many of the campers there. Things like blown appliances and power converters. We had a few things ruined by this power surge, but to their credit, the owners paid out of pocket to replace everything we found wrong and even called in a repairman onsite to fix some of the issues. If they had not done so we would have been very upset, but as it turned out we went away happy customers with everything (we hope) repaired and/or replaced.

The laundry room is terrible. I knocked huge spiders off of the ceiling so they would not land in my hair or laundry. It is all outside and there is really no place to fold anything AND it is cold water only. So that is a big problem if you plan to do laundry there.

I did not use the restrooms or showers. The wifi is probably the best anywhere. We camped at North Sydney / Cabot Trail KOA in a Fifth Wheel.

Sadly, the worst KOA we've experienced. All the rec hall held was a bunch of broken down equipment. There were no swimming facilities, unless you wanted to try off the dock across the road. The park was close to Sydney and Baddeck, however, a good base for touring the Cabot Trail. If we hadn't prepaid, however, we would have spent our additional three nights at any of the campgrounds in nearby Baddeck that had superior sites and facilities at less cost (When we were there in mid July, reservations were not really required provided you arrived mid week and early afternoon.) This KOA would be my last choice in future. We camped at North Sydney / Cabot Trail KOA in a Travel Trailer.

We spent 8 great nights and our experience was diametrically opposed to the previous review. While it probably was a quarry for building the bridge and causeway, it no longer is and we never heard any activities commensurate with quarry operations. On arrival we were met by the owner, who gave us a quick tour of the facilities prior to being escorted to our site. The sites are extremely generous, with our pull-through at least 75' long and about 35' wide. All services were well located and good quality. Site was level. Interior roads are gravel, but in excellent condition. I noted after heavy rain they were immediately out repairing pot holes. We enjoyed the 1 day of heavy rain as it washed the dust off the coach and truck. The view is elevated and overlooks the entrance into Lake Bras D'or and 1 afternoon we watched a cruise ship pass under the bridge. Owners and staff are excellent, very friendly. The park is also very dog friendly and if not busy they also have areas to run dogs. We will definitely return. We camped at North Sydney / Cabot Trail KOA in a Fifth Wheel.

Overall Rating:

The view from the park is very nice and the owners are helpful. But that is as far as it goes. It is actually in an active gravel pit and the road in an out goes through the pit where the earth moving equipment is operating. The internal roads are dirt and you get red mud all over everything if it has been raining. The electric hookups are antiquated and the breakers are not on the service post so you can not shut the electric off while you are plugging in, which is a real safety hazard. We stayed here as it was very foggy and raining and we were desperate for a place to stay as some other parks were closed, otherwise we would have moved on. Would not stay here again. We camped at North Sydney / Cabot Trail KOA in a Fifth Wheel.

Overall Rating:

This is a wonderful campground on a hill overlooking Bras D'Or lake and the Seal Island Bridge. It is located just off highway 105, but road noise was not an issue at our location. The park is run by a very friendly and helpful couple who guided us to our site and gave instructions on how best to use the facilities and internet, which worked very well most of the time. Interior roads are sand and gravel, and sites are either grass in the lower section or gravel in the top section. Get the top section if you can for the best view. Our site was fairly level, 50A power was strong, but water pressure was weak at 30psi and I had to supplement it with my freshwater pump. Each site had a table. Sites are spaced fairly close together, especially in the lower section. The laundry room was old and contained 4 washers, 2 large dryers and a small folding table. Bathrooms and showers were nice and clean, with benches and hooks outside of the shower stalls. Stores and other services are about 14 miles away. The daily rate was based on a one-week stay with a KOA membership. We will definitely stay at this beautiful park again if we get a chance. We camped at North Sydney / Cabot Trail KOA in a Motorhome.

As other reviews state, the views from here are great and the couple that runs it are friendly, as are their staff. The Wi-Fi was iffy when we were there -- it would be great one minute, then drop for the evening, then be great again. Also we had a power problem there where our internal box kept cycling like a brown out. Owners tested and the park power seemed OK so we took our rig in to be checked - dealer said all OK on our rig (said it had to be the park ;) ) and no problems since, so don't overreact if you have a power issue there....
