Fell in love with this location. It is not for all campers, large units would have difficulty fitting and in the busy season it would be cramped as the sites are so close together but the sites are right on the water and watching the Fundy tide ebb and flow is remarkable. My only complaint was the WiFi was very limited and no downloading available but to be honest with all that beauty being unplugged was not a bad thing! We camped at Old Shipyard Beach Campground in a Travel Trailer.

Overall Rating:

This unique, tiny campground is built on a narrow high strip of land along the gravel shoreline of the Bay of Fundy. There is one line of 27 campsites and a few cabins. The internal road separates your campsite from the beach and the water. Your fire pit is on the beach side of the road and everyone has their chairs set up to watch the tides come in and go out. Twice at low tide we saw a Bald Eagle come down and eat a fish stranded by the enormous Fundy tides. With so few campsites, everyone is friendly. Within minutes we were included in a kids scavenger hunt, engaged in a discussion of the Stanley Cup, and invited to watch the sunset. The managers maintain an authentic lighthouse on the property, and light it each night. The light didn't bother us. We happened upon this special place because we needed a spot to spend the night before heading to the Joggins Fossil Institute (wow, wow, wow) the next day. Boy did we luck out. Just you, 27 of your closest friends and the magnificent Bay of Fundy. If we are EVER in the area again, we WILL stay here. We camped at Old Shipyard Beach Campground in a Motorhome.

Overall Rating:

Rate is in Canadian $. Couple who own and operate this campground were very friendly and helpful and live onsite. RV sites are side by side back-in and for Class-A coaches this offers a front window view. Tent sites are on the grass facing the water, adjacent to the lighthouse. The RV connections are unconventional, all have the sewer on the correct side but W/E is shared so half have the connections are on the opposite side, for most this isn't a problem. Rt 209 coming in from the east gets very hilly and twisty for the last several miles and the pavement needs much work. Plan on driving much slower than usual to keep all where it should stay. The campground offers a unique close up view of the ever changing tides where the water is literally just across the street and 6 hours later is is hundreds of yards away. Many enjoy walking the exposed gravel beds looking for sea glass, rocks and shipwreck artifacts. The owner maintains a historic lighthouse as a museum. This is a suitable campground for children who can entertain themselves. Cell service is marginal at best. 3 OTA channels are available and satellite is unobstructed. A single free wifi access point about midway in the campground offers service to many sites, but appears to be a DSL line with limited bandwidth and is fine for email and text, but not much more. The town of Advocate Harbor has a gas station with 87 and diesel with a small market and cafe. We found 2 other restaurants in town to be quite good. This is a remote location well off the beaten path. We camped at Old Shipyard Beach Campground in a Travel Trailer.

Tips for other Campers:

Adjacent restaurant others have mentioned has closed and is for sale. Lobster season ends last of July and so the lady down the road runs out by early August. Campground is site of historic shipyard. Locally owned gift shop ~2 blocks from campground. Limited services in nearby Advocate Harbor.

Overall Rating:

Rate of $34.00 per night for full hook-ups (30 amp) plus tax no discounts offered. Campground is small, 20 RV sites and 3 cabins on a mixture of dirt and gravel, no grass. There is one road running the length of the campground and all sites are back in. Could be tight for larger/longer units. All sites face the ocean, great view. Tide rose 31' per day during our stay. All sewer hookups are on the left side of the site midway down. Water and electric hookups on the other hand could be on either side of the coach and both will need an extension to connect. The owner will provide an extension if needed. Sites are just long enough to be out of the road with ample parking bedside the rig for a vehicle. Sites are wide enough to allow for use of slides and awning. Each site has a picnic table and fire ring across the street by the rock sea wall. Bathrooms/showers were clean but old and dated and cost $2.50 per shower. The laundry room has three each residential style washers and dryers. Payment is on the honor system, $2.50 per load. Verizon and T Mobile worked well, no Sprint signal. The restaurant across the street was closed during our stay, not sure if out of business or closed for the season. Access to the ocean floor during low tide is via steps down the rock seawall. The beach/ocean floor is gravel. The owners are very friendly and will work very hard to please and accommodate. This is a unique facility, the park itself is not much to look at, utility hook ups/setup funky, the park location is isolated and the coastal wind blows constantly, however the ocean view, the tides and being at the coast (at least for us) more than make up for the short comings. A great place to just come and chill. We would stay here again. We camped at Old Shipyard Beach Campground in a Motorhome.

Overall Rating:

We stayed for 2 nights in late September. The owner was very accommodating, helping us to level our camper using wood planks and giving us electricity (since he put us in a tent site and provided 20 amp service through a power cord). It was raining very hard but he took the time to make sure we were happy with our site and everything was working properly.

This is an isolated spot so not for someone looking for a lot of campground activities, shopping, etc. It is about 4 miles to Advocate Harbour, where there is a modest grocery store, gas / diesel, etc. There is also a fantastic restaurant there, called Wild Caraway. There is a restaurant / cafe right next to the campground, but it was closed when we were there.

The view is the draw here. Water comes up within 25' of your camper as it is right on the beach at the breakwall. This is home to the huge Fundy tides and it is very relaxing to just watch the tide come in and out. There is great beach walking when the tide is out and lots of fossils. Joggins Fossil Center is about 1 hour away up a road that at times, is not so good, but passable. We camped at Old Shipyard Beach Campground in a Motorhome.

Rate is Canadian $. What a unique campground where you can watch the Fundy tide rise to within feet of your campsite, visit the on-site lighthouse, and cook lobster from the "lobster lady" who lives nearby. Great location to visit attractions in this off-the-beaten-track area. The campground is bare-bones, but with E/W/S which all worked well. The owners and staff are very friendly and hard-working. Cell/data reception was excellent. It's just a fun place to be. We camped at Old Shipyard Beach Campground in a Motorhome.

The view of the Bay is just magnificent. Owners are wonderful people. Our tent was blown away during an extremely windy day and they allowed us to stay in their camper to finish our visit. They had a bond fire and invited campers to a clam bake on the beach. My family and I our now seasonal terribly happy campers at the Old Shipyard Beach Campground. Thank you. We camped at Old Shipyard Beach Campground in a Tent.

Wow. Here is an unusual place to stay. You can watch the 35 ft tides come in and go out twice a day. The owners are so pleasant and helpful. The access is off the main Glooscap Trail on the Bay of Fundy. The sites are gravel. Sites are a little tight for big rigs and close together (but worth it for the view). WiFi is not accessible at the furthest sites. Very quiet and no road noise at all. No dump station so must must take full-service site or carry the load to next campground. Wish we could stay longer. Hope to come back. We camped at Old Shipyard Beach Campground in a Travel Trailer.

If you like hiking, there are some beauties nearby. Visit Cape D'Or and Chignecto Provincial Park. Not much else around for services. There is a fuel station (including diesel) and a small grocery store with basic provisions. Cannot beat this place for peace and quiet.

Awesome ocean front campground right on the bay of Fundy. This is a hidden gem and hopefully stays that way. Sites are a mixture of grass and gravel, with pretty easy access. Owners are friendly, hard working, and helpful as are the other campers we met. Beach is a rocky beach with a remains of an nineteen century ship yard and a turn of the century light house on site. Bathrooms are clean and laundry is on site. Will camp here again. We camped at Old Shipyard Beach Campground in a Travel Trailer.

Tips for other Campers:

Port Advocate has a little "general store" with fresh vegetables, beer and wine and a good place to shop. Just outside the campground is a fish market, if you can call it that. Lady sells fish from here house, Fish was great and Lobsters were excellent and a good price.

If the thought of camping directly on the ocean, this campground is for you. All sites are literally feet from the Atlantic ocean. The picture on their website accurately depicts the campground. The washrooms are shared with an on-site restaurant and nearby in Advocate Harbour is a small grocery store and gas station (including diesel). This campground makes an excellent base for exploring Cape Chignecto Provincial Park, as there is no RV camping at the latter. It is also possible to do day trips to the UNESCO World Heritage site at Joggins. We camped at Old Shipyard Beach Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

Overall Rating:

I agree with all the other reviews about this campground, that the location is probably one of the best we have camped on. It is right on the bay and the beach access is just a few steps from your camper. However, it is very exposed to the "elements" and we experienced some horrendously windy conditions making our stay not as pleasant as it could have been. The site is basically just a sandbar surrounded by water which fills up very quickly when the tides are in. We were here for Labor Day weekend and it was very very busy with parked cars everywhere and lots of people camping on small spaces. There was hardly any room between us and the next RV, but it was a holiday weekend!!!! I do not think we would camp here again. But it sure was a great location for the beach and if you are a fisherman it is perfect. The staff was great and really helpful when backing in to our small site. There is a great DVD library with some really good titles, and the laundry was reasonably priced. We camped at Old Shipyard Beach Campground in a Fifth Wheel.
