Stayed at this park for a couple of nights while visiting the Columbus Zoo (great zoo by the way). This is a very nice park. We stayed in site B6 which had full hookups. The site was asphalt with a concrete patio and picnic table. It also had a fire ring. They have a limited number of full hookup sites. No cable or wifi, but we did get several OTA channels. The bathhouse and restrooms were clean and well kept, but were somewhat dated. The rate we paid ($20/night) reflects the 50% off Passport America rate. We didn't use any other facilities of the park. I would stay here again without hesitation when in the area. We camped at Alum Creek State Park in a Motorhome.

Second visit to this State Park, this time we made reservations early enough to get a full hook up site. No WiFi or cable, but 30 OTA TV channels. Spacious sites. Limited activities if you don't have a boat. No boat rental. We camped at Alum Creek State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Very nice state park, friendly staff. Restrooms could use some updating/paint, but functional. Didn't use the beach. 30+ OTA channels, good verizon reception. Stayed in FHU site, no issues. Plenty of room for our 36' TT and truck We camped at Alum Creek State Park in a Travel Trailer.

What a beautiful park! 50 amp, great water pressure, sewer and asphalt site with concrete patio! No pull throughs, our back in was very long and we didn't unhook. It wasn't perfectly level, but easy to level up. No cable or wifi, but we got many channels on the antenna and also had a good Verizon signal. Wish we were staying longer...there is a swimming area, but we didn't go see it. Nicely laid out Park, and the office staff was extremely nice and accommodating. They assigned us a site, told us to call them if we wanted another. We didn't call the reserve America number...they charge $8 to make reservations online! There is a lot of road construction and you are routed to a road with a 13'6" railroad overpass. Our RV is 13'6" tall so we had to do a lot of finagling to find a road without a railroad overpass. Also, route 23 exit was shuffled around...lots of exits off the highway were closed. A better way to get there from 71 would to be to go north of Columbus, Oh to route 37. That was the way we left and much easier with no construction. We camped at Alum Creek State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Great park! Residential areas all around the park, but you would never know it in the park. Wooded, well laid out park. We don't fish, but apparently the fishing is fantastic in the lake. Many sites look out on the lake. Most sites are electric only, but they do have about a dozen full hook-up sites, not on the lake. We camped at Alum Creek State Park in a Travel Trailer.

Tips for other Campers:

Only about 25 minutes to the heart of Columbus with plenty to do there. There are limited number of campgrounds near Columbus, and we checked them all out and this is by far the best for a camping experience.

This state park is very pretty and clean. We stayed in one of the full hookup sites and had no problems with them. The site was very level and long enough for our mh and tow car. The park is loaded with poison ivy so we walked our dog on the paved roads to avoid exposure. The showers had nice hot water and great pressure, but frustratingly, there is no place to put shampoo etc. Also the curtain didn't cover the whole opening. We enjoyed the stop and would stop at this park again. We camped at Alum Creek State Park in a Motorhome.

Just electric hook up on most sites. We reserved the site on line. It is difficult to see what you are getting. Nice park on the lake with some sites with water access. We stayed here over Labor Day Weekend and the park was packed. Bring your boat. We camped at Alum Creek State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

We're fulltime RV'ers and I'm not sure I've ever given a park a 10, so this may be a first! I can't think of anything bad about this park. Wish we would've had more nights to spend there. They have updated a section of the park and made it all full hookups, level asphalt paved drives, concrete patio, shrubs all around for privacy. It is just a few miles away from Columbus OH so there is plenty around to do. We were there for a specific event so we didn't get to enjoy the lake but there were lots of people out there on the lake. Lots of trails around. No WIFI but our Verizon signal was good as was AT&T. We were able to get satellite coverage. They accept Passport America Sun-Thurs. We'd definitely stay here again. We have a 35' fifth wheel and had no problems with the length, width or low limbs, etc. We camped at Alum Creek State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Alum Creek is generally fine and would is fine for a basic, no frills, state park stay. We visited over a moderately busy weekend and found the check in the be efficient, the park generally clean, and the sites to be well laid out. We did enjoy being in a "premium" site which offered a bit more privacy and room to spread out. Even the non-premium sites were not too cramped and seemed to be adequate.

There were campground host sites labeled but we never saw anyone outside or helping out with park maintenance or other duties. In addition we heard noise from several campsites late at night while walking the dog and no one seemed to be around to enforce the quiet hours or to say anything to the campers. Ideally this would be a ranger or security guard but we have seen hosts try to help out with friendly reminders.

The bathrooms were OK but are getting a little long in the tooth. Perhaps time to pony up some state funds for replacements. They were in need of a good cleaning - they were not disgusting but just not quite as well-maintained as we would have hoped.

We did have one complaint. In an effort to abide by the firewood restrictions most states have we try to buy wood on site. For $5 per bundle we got five thin pieces of slab wood that were FILLED with black ants. The wood was wet and dirty as well. Compared to what we have seen from other Ohio parks this was a big disappointment.

One other thing we would suggest is to regrade and replant the grassy areas next to the site pads. Ours was eroded and basically all dirt and gravel. We've seen better. We camped at Alum Creek State Park in a Motorhome.

1.Online campsite map deceiving. The lake is beautiful but access to it a bit rough.

Carry your fishing gear down narrow path twist and turns along with drop offs.

2. We are in for a 4 day stay. Think I caught the same turtle twice."humor".

Stink bugs,,,,,,lots and lots of stink bugs.

Campsite are pretty level and spacious. Very clean.

Unless you are in good shape and like to fish. Otherwise don't get a site by the lake. Better off to save a few bucks and drive to boat launch area to fish. Other than that. Nice park except for a lot of stink bugs getting all over your rv.

Don't think we'll be back though. We camped at Alum Creek State Park in a Motorhome.

OK State Park. It was completely full over the weekend. Sites tend to be smallish. Sites are in a forest. This is more a small RV and tent park than a large RV park. We camped at Alum Creek State Park in a Motorhome.

Checked in without a reservation. Passport America rates not available on weekends and holidays.

The first site assigned, even though we told the attendant our length, was way too short. The second site, while long enough, had a squatter on it! We called the office and let them know, but no one from the park came down!

When we checked out the following day, my wife again reported the squatter and the campground attendant said: "Yeah, we know about him."

Rest rooms were disgusting!

Our site was littered with cigarette butts: maybe from the squatter?

Electric only at this site, but full service sites are available. We camped at Alum Creek State Park in a Travel Trailer.
