If you are looking for a small, clean, well run, well maintained, privately owned RV park, this one is a gem.

This is a satellite-friendly RV park (no trees) on US Route 40 just west of Columbus, Ohio. We've stayed here more than a dozen times and have always enjoyed our stay. We have no trouble getting in and out of here with our 42-foot motor home and toad. Wifi works well, too.

This is not a fancy RV "resort." It has only the basic amenities, in a clean and neat setting. One advantage of that is that the park is always quiet...not a lot of kids running around.

We'll be back. We camped at Alton RV Park in a Motorhome.

We appreciate this positive feedback from Rich, especially letting other campers know we do accommodate big rigs such as his 42 foot motor home. We had a new wi fi system installed last year (2015) and most feedback is that it is one of the best wi fi systems they have encountered on a campground.

This is what I refer to as a "glorified parking lot." A place to park your camper with full hook-ups, but that's all. You stay here when you plan to do other things in the Columbus area. Fire rings are not allowed on the sites and our site was too narrow to even open the awning. That was OK since we were only there for one night. The owner was friendly but very particular. I was very happy that she was able to accommodate our late departure, but at a cost per hour. Also, if you have more than 2 people, there is an additional cost for each one. It ended up being way more expensive than it was worth for a one night stay with no amenities. It's fine if you are just two people planning to spend most of your time away from the campground. We camped at Alton RV Park in a Travel Trailer.

Our nightly rate is $40 per night, full hook ups at your site, 30 or 50 amp. Free wi fi. This cost is for two adults, children under 10 are free. Extra people over 2 are charged $3 per day. We are a mom and pop business, living on site. We aim to close at 8:30 pm so we are not on duty 24/7. As an incentive to have people arrive prior to 8:30 pm, we charge $5 fee if they will be later. We are not trying to get rich, we just like downtime ourselves. Our check out time is noon. We do allow later check out times (yes we charge extra for that); unless we have someone scheduled to arrive needing that site. If people stayed past check out time on a regular basis, we would not know what time to tell the new arriving camper that their site would be available. If having your awning out is important to you, please mention that when you make your reservation and we will try to assign you a site where that is possible. We have seen many awnings ruined over the years from campers going away and leaving awnings extended, thus we encourage everyone to roll up their awnings when away from their camper.

Terrible Terrible Terrible! Worst camping experience I have had in the last 20+ years of staying at campgrounds. Elderly couple who own and run the place were very rude, unfriendly and all they cared about was getting their money. I came back to get reassigned to a different site as the one they gave me was too difficult and cramped to get into. They said no, take it or leave it. When the slides went out they were right next to the neighbor and you could hear their TV in ours. Extremely small campground, no space between campers, very compacted and hard to move around. No fire pits, no laundry, nothing to do. Gravel lots that are not level. Place sits right on a very busy highway so you have the noise of the highway all night long. We camped at Alton RV Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Our park was designed in the 1960's when many of the campers were
small pop ups or short Air Streams. Originally there were 20 sites established. Those sites do not have as much space around them as the extra 15 later added sites. As mentioned on a previous review, a person with a 42 foot motor home has been a repeat camper and is satisfied with the site assigned to him each time. To obtain a site to fit your big rig, we suggest making a reservation well ahead of your scheduled arrival if at all possible. We used to allow fire pits but had too many complaints from people with asthma. Also some campers were concerned that sparks from the fires would catch their awnings on fire. We do have a fire pit, with wood, that can be used in a designated area away from the camping units, just ask for this upon arrival. True, we do not offer activities on the park; we offer a clean, friendly, RV Park with full hook ups, close to most activities around Columbus. We are close to Metro Parks (4 miles from us you can visit a herd of bison), with playgrounds, fishing, boating and hiking. The Hollywood Casino is only 3 miles away. Sporting events, conventions, hospitals, visitation of relatives, short work assignments, one night stays for people on the road are reasons we stay almost full most of the summer. We strive to be polite to everyone. Around 9 pm the highway noise slows down. The train track is one mile away.

Odd site layout. We backed the motorhome into a site and was later able to park the car behind it to hookup. The sites were narrow. Trains were heard several times over night. WiFi was working but slow. The campground offered aluminum can recycling. We camped at Alton RV Park in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

Only park close to where we needed to be in Columbus. Krogers was conveniently nearby.

Open field/no shade on a busy street but little street noise at night. This is a small park of gravel with some grass between sites. Sites are long with full hookups. Good local TV and WiFi is excellent. Most of the residents appear to be local workers. Everyone is very nice. There is no shade and even at end of Sept. our rig got very hot in the afternoon. No laundry. I think the park is a bit expensive for what is provided. We camped at Alton RV Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Tips for other Campers:

I do not think there is much to do around here. Good Krogers grocery store close by.

What we provide is location to nearby events/activities. We offer a free Columbus magazine to each camper, loaded with ideas for what to do around the Columbus area. We are only 9 miles from the State Capital Building as well as many other attractions. Yes, we have gravel sites with a good base. No one ever gets stuck here! Many campers tell us they are glad we do not have trees, providing them good satellite reception as well as cleaner trailers, free of bird deposits! We have some workers here, but aim to have no more than 1/2 our sites with workers at any one time. This allows empty sites for people wanting to stay for one night, a weekend, or a week.

There aren't any amenities here. It is basically a place to park. It is convenient to many Columbus sites and major highways. All sites are full hook up but very close to your neighbors. Depending upon your site, you may or may not be able to extend your awning. We camped at Alton RV Park in a Motorhome.

This is a place to park your RV and sleep for the night (pull-thru sites) on your way to somewhere else. No amenities, No shade and inflexible (ie. telling you when you can and can not use your awning despite rules stating "recommend" putting awning down at night or if you leave your site.) I cut my stay short and found another place to stay that was more in line with what I am use to in the rv'ing community. Beware that this is a small, private park on the owners property so they are entitled to little respect for privacy. We camped at Alton RV Park in a Motorhome.

This is a nice campground. The owner is very friendly and attentive. Not really a family campground because they have NO swimming pool or play ground equipment for children. We have stayed at this campground numerous times. It is conveniently located to the Columbus area. We camped at Alton RV Park in a Motorhome.

The pros on this campground is the staff who are friendly and efficient. It is also convenient to Columbus and the campground was clean. The negatives are: 1) it is on a very busy highway, and the campground is close to the street. 2) There is a train that goes by during the evening/night hours that woke me up. 3) There is not a great place to walk big dogs which need a lot of exercise. 4) RV's are right on top of each other with almost no space in between slide outs. We camped at Alton RV Park in a Motorhome.

This is probably the closest campground for easy access to the Columbus area. I believe the price is only justified for this reason. The sites were quite narrow and both the road and train noise was apparent. Staff was extremely friendly and helpful. Wi-Fi worked well. I would stay here again, but prefer quieter surroundings. We camped at Alton RV Park in a Motorhome.

This park has what you need. It is in a strange spot just off a busy street in a small town near Columbus, about 3 miles off of I-270. Some spots around the perimeter of the park are more esthetically pleasing, but they are used by folks staying longer. Pull throughs for overnights are easy and level. We camped at Alton RV Park in a Travel Trailer.

Easy access on US 40 west of I-270. Interior roads and site drives are gravel. Very small amount of grass between sites. You'll be close to your neighbor using the pull-through sites. Back-in and perimeter sites have more space. Very friendly office staff and led us to site and helped us park. Few trees, so little shade, but satellite TV was easy to get. Verizon wireless had 3 bars and free Wi-Fi was pretty fast. We camped at Alton RV Park in a Motorhome.

Small park with very narrow sites. The owner/manager was friendly and helpful. Good choice for a quick overnight but would look elsewhere if staying longer. The small strip of grass outside our door (about 3' wide) was full of "doggie bombs" which we had to navigate around so it appears the park is pet friendly. There are no trees in the park and you cannot open your awning so there is no shade available. The park could be difficult to navigate with more of the sites are filled. We would stay again if traveling through the area. We camped at Alton RV Park in a Fifth Wheel.
