Miami Whitewater Forest Campground is located in the largest park in the county park system. The campground is clean and the new shower/restroom facility was also clean. The park is great and there are plenty of things to do outside the campground. While there, the campground was completely full. I camped in a tent, but agree that the campground is not the best for large campers and motor homes. The spaces are small and packed close together and many are hilly. My main complaint was what was already stated in a previous review. The campsites were all overloaded. 2-4 campers or tents per site with large groups staying in them in addition to having "visitors" come by in the evening. Both Friday and Saturday night, the campground did not quiet down until after 1 am. Saturday I walked by one site that had at least 30 chairs with adults in them and a hoard of children as well. Bright lights, loud music and loud conversation. Not peaceful, not quiet. We camped at Miami Whitewater Forest County Park in a Tent.

Getting to this park requires good advanced mapping and intuition; there could be more directional signage. This park is not suitable for long 5th wheels and motor homes. The park map does not show the steep grades and very tight curves with large trees close to the narrow one-way road. Very few sites are level. Bring plenty of blocks. It was very difficult to back into my site due to the trees and the location of the electric post. Plan to drive your rig to the water station to tank up before backing in and setting up. Heavily wooded. Only electric hook-up. Camping is a long way from the rest of the park which has no place for swimming. The bath house is new, very clean and free. We camped at Miami Whitewater Forest County Park in a Travel Trailer.

Overall Rating:

The campground is in a nice park facility with a great play area for the kids located down by the lake. It is not real close to the campground though.

We also had to purchase an annual county park pass to be able to get in ($10.00).

The reason for the average rating is very few of the sites are level. Many of them are slanting downhill so it is hard to get level.

They could use a little better signage directing those who do not live here to the campground and check in. We drove past it the first time and had to call to find out where to go.

Also, even though they have a maximum camper limit of 6 people and two tents (or one camper unit and one tent) per site there were several that had many more than that, one having at least 18 people in it and one with 4 tents.

Their dump station is also located on a hill making it hard to get completely empty.

It is a very busy park on the weekends with lots of tent campers - 3 to 6 tents per site.

I would recommend this campground in certain areas only and during the week if possible. We camped at Miami Whitewater Forest County Park in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

Try to get a site in the area around 120 through 135 as they seem to be a little bit more level.

This campground is very close to my home, so we camp here pretty regularly. The upper sites are rather hilly, and most of the lower sites are mostly level. There are a few towards the bottom that have a bad slope, though. There is a playground located in the bottom section, as well. The park offers a lot of attractions (a snack bar, water park for little kids, paved bike trails, disc golf, fishing, hiking trails) and the campground features decent sized sites with plenty of shade. The bathrooms and showers have always been clean when we have camped, and the campground is monitored regularly by park rangers who are friendly and not overbearing. We have a pop-up so without a toilet, so we do not have the problem with the dump station that I keep reading about. Overall, if you are looking for a quiet campground with a lot of activities within the park, I would definitely recommend this park. Overall Rating:

We actually like this campground quite a bit, but it has more to do with overall park than the campground itself. The park has a lot of things to do with a nice lake and and hiking trails along with nice paved bike trails. The campgrounds however leave a bit to be desired. We stayed on site 133 and it was not very level. We had to crank the tongue jack all the way down to get the camper level on this site. The site is gravel but was in pretty good condition. We did like that this site was surrounded by deep woods. The site was adequate but not large. It does seem that the 11:00 PM quiet time was enforced or at least we didn't have any real rowdy neighbors and the campground quieted down pretty quickly. It is true as other have said that you have to go to the boat house at the lake to check in and the park staff were teenagers that were friendly but not too knowledgeable about the actual campgrounds. Also as other have pointed out once in the park the signs to the actual campgrounds are confusing -we missed a turn and wound up having turn around in an almost not big enough parking lot- had our 24' camper been larger, we would have had a heck of a time turning around to make the correct turn. And finally -also as others have mentioned- the dump station is on the wrong side. We didn't pull out until Monday so it wasn't a problem for us. We went down to the boat house parking lot -about a 1/4 mile away- and turned around put the dump on the correct side of the camper, but then you have to pull completely through the campground loop again or do some type of fancy backing to get back on the main access road. Bottom line is we like the overall park a lot, but the campgrounds leave quite a bit for improvement. We camped at Miami Whitewater Forest County Park in a Tent Trailer.

We liked the fact that the campground was very scenic and close to nearby trails. We especially liked the Badlands Trail within the park. The campground is small but we went in early spring and it wasn't very busy at all. The showers were very clean in comparison to most state and county parks we have visited. I agree with other comments about the sites not being level. If you have anything other than a tent, you will want a lower level site. Staff are rude and inexperienced. Signs are confusing. Don't follow the campground sign or you will end up in a small parking lot unable to exit. Sites are not level to the extreme. Sites are gravel, shaded, with 30 amp electric service. A campsite such as this is worth about $5.00 per night if I were to plan to stay here which I will not. Avoid at all costs. Overall Rating:

We stayed at Miami Whitewater for two nights. While we had car camped here before, this was our first trailer trip to this particular campground. We stayed on campsite 132. It was near the water source and playground. It was halfway in-between the bathroom with 2 showers (not really a bathhouse) and a three-hole pit toilet. As a side note: if strong odors bother you, avoid 117 and 119 during the hot months. I'll limit my comments and rating to the campground only. The campers this particular weekend were a whole different story. The check-in is a little inconvenient. You have to drive to the boathouse (about 500 yards down the road from the entrance) to check-in. The associates have to share time with the boat renters, fishers, and campers, so you have to wait on the weekends, when people are most likely to camp. I have yet to encounter one that really knows which sites would be best for your needs. The campground is unofficially divided into two areas: an upper area (up to 116) and a lower area (117 and up). The upper area is usually tent campers (aka pop-ups) and campers in tents. The sites up here are smaller and all have dramatic slopes. The lower area is roomier, has a playground, and the sites are a little more level. The sites are all gravel, back-in, and on some sort of slope. Some are sloped down so far that the trailer tongues rest on the ground to get level. The most level of the sites are between 126 and 136, but some of those are also not trailer-friendly. there are 15 and 30A electric hookups at each site. The playground is in great shape. Adults: stand your ground with the older kids about hogging swings and equipment. They generally move on. The bathhouse is small: VERY small. It is right by the entrance to the campground. The men's side has two urinals, two commodes, and two showers (one accessible). The women's side has three commodes and two showers (one accessible). The dump station is ridiculous. I never noticed this when tent camping, but it's on the wrong side. You can dump facing downhill if you have at least 12 feet of hose, but you'll likely leave a little bit of grey/black in your tanks because of the angle. If you don't want to do that, you have two options: pull past it towards the upper section and back down or go out, turn around by the boathouse and pull back in. We left before 9:00am, but I can't imagine the RV ballet that occurs between 11:00a and noon. I'd love to give this park a higher rating, especially since it's the closest to my house. However, it's just not up to the basic standard of modern campgrounds; even for a park district. The same district sunk millions into Winton Woods and a great campground was produced. Since they're bid to build a new one failed here at Miami Whitewater, they really need to look at updating what they have now. It would go up to a 7/8-star right away with water hook-ups, an updated bathhouse, and a relocated dump station. We camped at Miami Whitewater Forest County Park in a Travel Trailer.

Overall Rating:

This is a delightful park, a true surprise as it is a county park. The campground is heavily wooded, and the sites 127-145 are the nicest, with 145 the best. Some are too unlevel for a large motorhome, so check first. Park Rangers patrol the park, so you feel safe. In close walking distance is an 85 acre great fishing lake, with many nice fishing boats, pedal boats of all kinds, bicycles of different types, and 2 pontoon boats. These are very nice well maintained boats (except the pontoons). The harbor area is first rate, with a delightful children's water park (fee), a very nice playground that is padded, a nature center, very nice snack bar, and 7 miles of paved walking/biking paths. It is a fabulous place for kids, although we are retirees, the amount of children wasn't a problem. We will definitely come here again. The only reason I didn't rate it a 10 is because there is only electric, no water or sewer at the site, but there is a dump station and available potable water.
