Stayed here while we explored the Hocking Hills region. Many campsites were decorating for the upcoming Halloween weekend festivities. In season there is a nice looking swimming pool with a slide and a smaller kiddie pool. Full hookups were an unusual state park feature. Park road is paved but entrance is via a steep winding driveway with no shoulders. Wouldn't want to arrive after dark. Get a region map and plan your route to travel to the various caves, waterfalls. At least two had ADA access but the majority require ability to walk up and down rough stairs, over rocks and distances ranging from 1/2 mile on up. Truly beautiful well marked hikes to caves, waterfalls, cliffs, gorges and woods. Pack a picnic, wear hiking shoes and use your trek poles. We camped at Hocking Hills State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Date of Stay: October, 2018 - $43.00
Overall Rating:

The campground entrance was well marked and easy to find. Internal roads were asphalt and for the most part in reasonably good condition. The road from the camp ground headquarters to the where the camp sites were located was quite narrow. Meeting another larger RV on that road would have been a white knuckle experience, especially with a drop-off on one side. The camp ground roads were maneuverable with a 36' DP motorhome, but anything larger might have difficulty. There were lots of shade trees in the campground, and most sitse had one or more trees. Our full hookup back-in site (#47) had a slight downward angle toward the back of the RV, which the auto-leveler handled easily. The sites are of various lengths, and ours was just long enough for our motorhome, but the toad had to park next to it (but there was plenty of room there). Most of the sites would NOT handle a 35" RV. The pad was asphalt and in decent condition, and nearly all sites had some grass, but often much of the space on the passenger side of the RV was a combination of grass and dirt/mud. There was no cable TV, no OTA stations, and Verizon cell service was 1 bar 1X service (spotty at best, and almost useless for internet access). Fortunately we have a high-gain cell antenna that we put up on a 24' pole, and with our WeBoost 4G booster amp, we had 3 bars and 4G service. The water was easy to connect to, and the water pressure was good. The sewer connection was at ground level, making it easy to use. We don't use restrooms or showers, so we can't render an opinion on those items. There was no dog park available, and they have a limit of 2 dogs per site (we actually had 3 and didn't realize there was a limit until we got here, so we just made sure only 2 were out at a time). The price was reasonable for the services received. The staff was friendly and helpful. We would definitely stay here again, but would seek out sites 52, 59 or 60 which had more length and more grass. We camped at Hocking Hills State Park in a Motorhome.

Okay but typical state park setting, wooded, sites close, bathrooms older. We only spent one night as we traveled through so did not hike any of the trails. Pool looked nice. We camped at Hocking Hills State Park in a Motorhome.

Hocking Hills State Park is a gem and this campground is right in the middle of it. In fact, it is right next door to the Old Man Cave area which is a highlight of the area, and right down the road from Cedar Falls. So, location, location, location. Pros: location, FHU, level, concrete pads, lovely wooded grounds, nice amphitheater and pool, good staff and supplies in office. Cons: entry road a bit tight (take it slow), no wifi, no ATT, (Verizon worked), utilities towards the back of the site (took 2 sewer hoses), muddy after a monsoon (boy did we get some rain). We saw deer, bunnies and had a turkey just behind our coach. We camped at Hocking Hills State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Our site was next to the shower house and thought the foot traffic would be a problem, but it wasn't. Very quiet and was convenient to have shower/bathroom so close. The shower area was above average. I've been at state parks with worse facilities. The restroom needed to be cleaned more frequently. Site had a slope from front to back and a very large step down from pavement to grass area. Campground had a nice pool. To get to the sites from the CG office, you have to travel up a winding road with very little for berms on each site. We camped at Hocking Hills State Park in a Motorhome.

Full hook up, but sets are close in a very popular campground. East side sets had pads that sloped to back....hard to level with my blocks plus some borrowed. Pool looked nice, office/store was ok, bathrooms were a mess. Park served as a base for all the great trails, though. We camped at Hocking Hills State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

All the trails...O l d Man`s Cave, Ash Cave, Cedar Falls, Rose Lake, etc. All are incredible-and in the heart of Ohio! Weather was in the 90`s, but trails thru woodlands pleasant. Looked at the burnt remains of the Lodge...very sad. There are 40 cabins that look well maintained.

Here's our take of the park itself: the people at the park HQ were super friendly and very helpful with all my questions about hikes in the area. The showers by the pool were nice , but sometimes had a lengthy wait to get into one of the 3 shower stalls. , laundry right next to the showers were very nice as well and we didn't have any trouble using the machines. The pool was nicely maintained and the kids really enjoyed spending their afternoons here after hiking. Cons: this park isn't really equipped to handle some of the modern RV's. The sites are tough to maneuver with the large rigs, and just wasn't a good fit. The roads just getting here are curvy, hilly grades with switchbacks and twists along the way. One you turn into the park , and check in at the office, you must again travel up more curvy and twisty road to get to the sites. One lesson we learned once we got there, I had booked an rv site with electric only. My mistake for not paying closer attn that we didn't have water hookups, so when we inquired about it, they said the water was at the bottom of the park back where the office was, so my husband had to the make the trip again to fill our tank. Sites are almost all uneven, some more than others. Which I'm surprised that some spots they even allowed Rvs into knowing just how sloped the pavement was. The ATT signal was non existent so no wifi all week, which really was not a deal breaker for us. But I did hear that some people got Verizon in certain areas. The bathhouse near the electric sites were much to be desired , so that's why we ended up using the ones at the pool area. The park does well with tents and smaller rv' s and trailers. But the fit is just hard with the larger ones and feels a little sandwiched in once you finally get in there. The hiking in the area was top notch and was the high light of our trip. We camped at Hocking Hills State Park in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

Walmart was 12 miles through twisty roads, but still we felt it was an ok drive with the convinence of it nearby, just not at night. The hiking trail heads were also centralized around the park, about a 10 minute drive (give or take) to almost all of them.

This is a large campground with a percentage of walk in sites. This state park is popular even throughout the week but there were still a number of sites to choose from. Our site (#11) was able to get satellite signal and the asphalt was level enough to not put pads down. The restrooms are really lacking in capacity for this park...our walk in loop just had pit toilets (which badly needed emptying) and it was a very long walk to the nearest shower facility, which was by the state park's public pool. They weren't very clean. Laundry room is also in this shower facility. Verizon signal weak but usable. We camped at Hocking Hills State Park in a Motorhome.

This state park is great for hiking and biking. We found a paved trail to Lodge Road, which takes you to the trailhead for the new Hemlock Bridge/WhisperingCave trail. Lots of strenuous hiking with breathtaking gorges and scenery, well worth the visit.

We are a 45 ft MH with toad. The drive on 664 was slow, windy, sharp turns, no shoulder, no room for errors! The drive up the hill to the campsites in the park was not much better. HUGE SHOULDER SIDE POTHOLE on the exit side. Disconnected our toad at the office area. Only potable water is at the office area. We called for reservations to be certain we'd fit. We were approved for site 116 in the Electric only (FHU had no availability). We needed a shoe horn to get into it, fellow campers helped guide us in. It was a horribly unlevel site. Tow was parked on grass area. To get in the sites you have to drive past your site and turn around at the playground and come back. The next day we moved to a slightly more level site in the FHU area for the next 4 nights. To back in FHU sites, you have to drive down around the water tower and come back to your site. We just fit, tow was on mud/gravel/grass (?) next to us. We used boards and jacks to get within 3" of level. MH felt like the 'slanting house' fun spot. We have been camping for over 30 years and never seen water hook ups like they have here. Learned something new! The FHU area has newer W/S/E and picnic table patios. 99% of the sites need a complete overhaul to make them level. The main road coming in needs repair and a shoulder. We suggest they add speed bumps or something to slow people down-some child or pet is going to get killed! We camped at Hocking Hills State Park in a Motorhome.

Great Caves and hiking trails.Late spring storms filled the streams and fueled the waterfalls! Walk lower gorge trail in the Conkle's Hollow State Nature Preserve. Great 4 mile mtn bike area in the SP.Ride the Hockhocking Adena Linear trail in Athens.Brewery 33 in Logan has great craft beer.Good Verizon cell and our own Mifi signal. We would consider coming back but would look for a campsite closer to town and drive out to the parks.

We made our first trip to Hocking Hills and the adjoining state park over Easter weekend. While the area and the natural features are indeed very impressive the campground is significantly less so. We have stayed at quite a number of the Ohio state parks and Hocking Hills ranks among our least favorite. With that said we would stay again only because we loved the park. The hiking and natural beauty is unmatched in Ohio and rivals some of what you will find in more well known parts of the country. We camped at Hocking Hills State Park in a Motorhome.

Begin looking for the roadside firewood vendors as soon as you exit the interstate. There are a few but none right near the campground entrance. Visit Grandma Fae's for supplies and little knick knacks - its a fun little spot.

Beautiful state park. Plenty of sites available this time of year even for our 41' fifth wheel. Site was level and spacious enough for an easy setup. Water fill at bath house since it is turned off at site. Plenty of room for our newfoundlands to explore. We stayed 4 days during which we experienced 2 days of drenching thunderstorms. However, site and park drained well. Will return again and enjoy more of the excellent trail system, hopefully under drier conditions. We camped at Hocking Hills State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Stayed 2 nites in an electric only site as that was all that was left. Site was fairly level but still needed a few blocks under the rear wheels. Electric was satisfactory. Water stations were plentiful throughout the park on the back of water fountains. Dump station got a little crowded at times. Park was clean and restrooms were the typical outdoor brick houses with pit toilets. Thte bath house by the pool was very clean and well appointed. The Lodge restaurant was FANTASTIC! Great food and decent prices. I would come back just to eat. Pools at the campground and the lodge looked great but we didn't get a chance to use them. Great hiking and scenery abounds. We camped in a full hookup site for 3 nights. Having used our own bathroom facilities I cannot rate those, but I was told they were clean and well kept. Wonderful walking trails for the adventurous with beautiful views. Our site was paved and level, but got muddy off the pavement when it rained. Fortunately the picnic table was on a concrete pad, so the mud was easy to avoid. We camped at Hocking Hills State Park in a Motorhome.
