Off season stay, so campground office was not open on our arrival. Campground employee came by our site on day 2 to make sure all was in order. Getting level on our site was a challenge, but we were prepared after reading several other reviews. Grounds are well kept, and facilities are older but functional. Numerous restrooms, shower house, and laundries are spread throughout the park. Great park to walk trails or streets. Fishing, boating, golf were available even in off-season. Park was quiet in evenings. We would return, but make sure to carefully select our site. We camped at Punderson State Park in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

We took advantage of low occupancy and did lots of walking throughout the park., with quiet nights by the campfire. Visited nearby town of Chagrin Falls. Very charming, with lots of dining and shopping options. We came looking for R&R and we found it.

Overall Rating:

This is a very nice park, but the campground is OK at best. The park is very large with lots of activities including golf, archery, fishing, disc golf, hiking, etc. For the campground, be very sure to read the details of the site when reserving a spot! Most of the sites have only 20 amp hookups and no water! There are faucets throughout the campground to get water. The 20 amp circuit breaker is very weak and we had to reset our breaker many times when we used the microwave or hair dryer. They do have a few sites with 30 amp and full hookup. We were in site 154 (top of the hill near the water tower) and this area is mostly unshaded for easy satellite view and has good cell service. Other areas are not. We camped at Punderson State Park in a Travel Trailer.

It really depends on your site on how you feel about this campground. We were in Site 8 and had a level shady private spot. The site next to us was right on top of the people next to them. Lots of the fire rings were on a small level spot that wouldn't even allow a chair to be set next to the ring. We had full hook up and short walk to bathroom. Not all bathrooms have a shower. Spot 25 had a nice view of the lake. Nice paved roads for bike riding, they are a little hilly. Camp store was well stocked. Kayak and Canoe rentals available. Fishing dock by the check in. Large visitor parking lot. They are VERY STRICT about no parking on the grass. Some tent sites were on top of a steep hill with parking at bottom of hill. We camped at Punderson State Park in a Travel Trailer.

Tips for other Campers:

Go into Chagrin Falls. It's a cute little town. We did a self guided winery tour and covered bridge tour. This is in the middle of Amish country so you will need to watch our for buggies on the road and tied up at the local Walmart. Easy Kayakking. Ramp was VERY slippery. Be cautious.

Many different types of sites. It is tough to find a level one for both an RV and a tent in one site. It was excellent to have a bathroom so close and to have a very reasonably priced laundry at 1 dollar a load right next to us. Cell signal is best at the top by the water tower. Clean Park with many amenities to include a food truck that gets good reviews. We camped at Punderson State Park in a Motorhome.

Our site was a full hookup site, with a lakefront view. Shaded most of the day. The site was plenty big for our trailer and tow vehicle. Mostly quiet, with occasional plane and highway noise. Check-in was pretty quick, as is the case in most Ohio state parks. We camped at Punderson State Park in a Travel Trailer.

Park grass is very over grown. We had to set up in a rain storm. Set camper up with brace legs and all and then found out our electric box didnt work. They told us to move to the next site, or purchase extra long extention cord to reach other site. All said and done I was SOAKED. I know its camping, but the bathrooms were not in good shape at all. The whole park just isnt comparable to others...Will NOT be RETURNING to Punderson state park ever again... We camped at Punderson State Park in a Travel Trailer.

I stayed here in late April and early May when it was cold and rainy while visiting nearby relatives. I had my choice of campsites, but like a lot of Ohio state parks, this one has a problem with uneven campsite pads. In addition, the asphalt pads are too narrow, especially when it is muddy, with the result that you get wet feet because you have to walk on the grass to get into and out of your RV. (My shoes never dried out.) Another problem is that electric was only 20 amps instead of the 30-50 amps at most other parks, so they really need to upgrade this, as it makes it very hard to use AC. On a positive note, I discovered the upper sites near the water tower. They are a little farther apart and the area up there is more open, making it easier to get satellite, and more importantly, letting the sun dry out the grass a bit. It is also farther from the lake and thus quieter up there. Another benefit of the upper sites is that Verizon data went from 2 to 4 bars, which is important when you work online part-time. The park has added more full-hookup sites, but those are down by the lake and a bit more crowded--still muddy, however. We camped at Punderson State Park in a Motorhome.

Very nice small park on fishing Lake; only 5 spaces w/full hookups, all on a pretty good slope down toward the road; many other E sites with different configurations and access to distributed water faucets; good flat hiking trails in park; lots of winter sports opportunities; lovely old mansion serves as a lodge; very nice restaurant; 18 hold golf course. Sites are not level going north to south. Restrooms and showers are not clean and the water pressure is poor. Hot water got to warm on 3 of the 4 showers I took. Now the good--the park is well groomed and the sites are very wide. The park is about 45 minutes from downtown Cleveland. Cell service and satellite worked great. We camped here in a 40' motorhome. We stayed here at the peak of the turning leaf colors this year and loved it. The campground is very clean, very shaded, and just downright pretty. The most negative thing I can say is some of the sites are pretty close to one another. We stayed in site 18 which looks out on the lake and really enjoyed it. Water is available at numerous places throughout the park and easily accessible. The surrounding area if also beautiful. Make sure to visit Chagrin Falls area which is an older town. Beware also that the only sites with 30 amp are the handful of full hookups. The rest of the sites only have 20 amp electric which was fine since we didn't need AC. We will definitely return to this park. We camped at Punderson State Park in a Travel Trailer.

Overall Rating:

This is a pretty park with a very large campground. However, big rig sites are a small percentage of the total and there are only a handful of full hookups available. We have been to the park during the peak season and it is very full and not a good place to stay. This time we reserved a full-hookup site and were one of eight rigs in the entire park. We were in site 5 and had to work a bit to level the rig. But otherwise the site was great and positioned well for satellite TV. The park offers three lakes, some hiking trails and an inn with a restaurant. We enjoyed our week-long stay. Our rating is definitely an off-season rating. We camped at Punderson State Park in a Motorhome.

Apparently no one has reviewed this campground since my last review a year ago! We were here a month earlier this time and they had all sites open. Some of same issues as before on the sites: not all level, the sites on the side of the road dangerous for parking and getting out of vehicle; shower curtains separating shower areas not overly private. But restrooms and showers were cleaned daily while we were there. Other than the 5 or 6 full service RV sites, all others have only 20amp service, no water. Fall colors are magnificent and rangers in the office very friendly and helpful. Bath house was not warm by most standards, but enough heat to take off the chill. Our return after last year indicates that despite issues raised, it is a good place to camp. We camped at Punderson State Park in a Motorhome.

Overall Rating:

We camped here at the beginning of winter season so only 1/2 campground was open and only one bath house. The dump station and potable water was available. I agree with previous reviews that park is NOT big-rig friendly and that many sites are NOT level and are narrow. We took Site 23 which is ON the water (yes, I walked to the edge of the lake) and it was beautiful. I pulled straight in to have the lake out our front window, no problems hooking up to the 20 amp breaker. Showers are old and handles are not intuitive as to which way to turn for hot, leading to a chilly start and long wait for hot. Older plastic curtains separate one set from next, so privacy is minimal. I rated bathroom not clean as I put some trash in the bin in the restroom on Day 1 and 4 days later it was still there, with more added. So in winter, no one is cleaning up. Showers were clean on Day 1 and little used by others (only 3 other rigs in park.) The dump station is good and allows for 2-way traffic on each side and there are 2 potable water sites to fill the tank. Some issues besides the level, width and cleanliness are: we were never once visited by Park official (sure hope they got the check I left!), and to make more room, they have sites set up parallel to the road for longer rigs. Open you door and you are either in the grass and drainage area OR you step out into the road (already narrow.) Not a safe site. And they have several of these. This was a good choice for our needs as the bathhouse was reasonably warm and we had electric with nice view and no competition for sites. Not sure I'd pay the higher rate in summer for this park when there are many others around at close to same price with more to offer. We camped at Punderson State Park in a Motorhome.
