Rustic camping at Resort Prices! When we booked our stay here we were expecting a really nice place for the price quoted but when we arrived it was just very average. With all the dead branches and leaves that were brown (they had been there a while) you could tell that grounds maintenance was not a priority. The pool and the bathrooms/showers are dated and need an upgrade. You don't get much privacy in the shower area. The worst thing though is that the campground is right beside a 4 lane highway (Route 2)! It is very loud day and night. If you rent a cabin here you would be just steps from the highway. They do, however, have location, location, location which I imagine is why they charge so much. It is one of the closest campgrounds to Cedar Point Amusement Park. This is not a destination resort but a decent place to stay for a few days if you're going to Cedar Point. Thank God we're Passport America members and only paid half price! We camped at Camp Sandusky in a Motorhome.

This is an older dated campground. Not designed for bigger rigs. Roads are narrow with tight turns and obstructions. They have a lot of 1 room cabins in the park. No cable. Water pressure was good. Wifi was slow and that was IF it was up. Had a hard time getting out of my site because it was tight with trees, narrow road and other vehicles in the way. A lot of permanent sites. We camped at Camp Sandusky in a Fifth Wheel.

Rate reflects a weekly rate with passport. The sites were well marked, grass and very level. There were lots of trees but we had no trouble backing our 30' motor home in the spot. The interior roads were gravel and paved. There are a lot of cabins and a section for tents. Staff was friendly and very helpful. They do a pancake breakfast every morning for $4.50. This is a very busy place. Many come here to go to Cedar Point. We camped at Camp Sandusky in a Motorhome.

We had site 6, Backed in and was checking level, hook ups and other things. We had nearly backed into a place the fire ring had been in the past. The ground was littered with maybe 50 or more nails. Some one probably had burned pallets then the ring was moved. Fortunately we didn't get any on the trailer tires. Went and complained to the manager. Said he would report it to the maint. crew. It was close to the highway with a lot of traffic noise. that night. The bathrooms could stand a better cleaning. Would not stay here again. We camped at Camp Sandusky in a Travel Trailer.

Overall Rating:

We stayed here because all other campgrounds were booked for a last minute visit to Cedar Point. So we went in already thinking this was a place just to park and sleep for the night!

$60/night is expensive for this campground.

Staff is very friendly there and on the phone. They printed my tickets off no questions asked and with a smile.

Pools looked sketchy and green. We didn't use it.

Sites were very very tight!! The charcoal BBQ they provided on each RV site was so close to the adjacent sites that if they used it I was afraid it would burn up my trailer. That's how tight the sites were.

The weekend was insane with people that there was barely any room for cars to park. Even though there were a lot of people the park was generally quiet. Bathrooms and showers are run down and moderately clean.

The bunny farm is more like an uncovered rabbit pen.

Its generally close to Cedar Point. We wouldn't go back. We camped at Camp Sandusky in a Travel Trailer.

The office staff couldn't have been any nicer. We changed our reservation once and our site twice, and they just kept smiling! Many trees, if you need satellite TV, ask for sites 12-16. Wifi did not work in site 16. May be better closer to the office. Very convenient to Sandusky and Cedar Point theme park. Mekong Vietnamese restaurant is excellent if you're interested. Closest fhu cg I could find to Cedar Point, other than staying at Cedar Point. Lots of road noise if you're outside your coach. Some noise from the Sandusky race track, too. Front desk clerk knowledge/competency depends on who is working the desk. Owner is a very nice guy. This place has a lot of trees. If you have satellite, the trees may cause reception problems and could cause trouble for big rigs. Closest RV parts place seems to be B&B in Milan. Stayed here very early in the season. Tables had not yet been placed at all the sites and the pool was not open. Water pressure was barely adequate at 35 psi. No cable, but it looks like some new sites are being built with cable connections. Lots of antenna stations. Wifi was weak even with so few people in the park. Gravel pads on newly built sites look narrow and very close to adjacent trees. Hot breakfast is offered on wknds. Gas, diesel and McD's right across the street. No fenced dog area. Only saw leashed pets and owners cleaning up after them. Small camp store and some tourist info available. I bet this place is really hopping during the season. We camped at Camp Sandusky in a Fifth Wheel.

We needed a campground near Cleveland for a two night stop. We decided on this one as it was right on our way. I felt the campground was expensive for what you get. It was noisy, and had the campground been full with cabin people, it would be a zoo. That bathrooms were block and concrete and not extremely clean.

Water pressure was okay, electric worked fine, we used over the air TV and there were many stations to choose from. Sewer was at the back of the site so we just used the dump station on the way out instead of bothering with 30' of sewer hose.

We were parked on grass but the site was level. They had lots of rain recently so sites and roads were a little torn up. Thye were working to fix that. We camped at Camp Sandusky in a Motorhome.

I think the park had just opened for the season when we stayed here in a Class C, because it was nearly deserted. It was clean and the very friendly staff was always around doing some sort of work. The site are gravel and level. We really enjoyed our time here and would come back. We camped at Camp Sandusky in a Motorhome.

We stayed here 5 nights during the 4th of July holiday. It was crowded but we had no problems with any noisy campers. Even though there were a lot of campers, the restrooms were very clean during our entire stay. Yes, there is some background noise from the highway but for us it served as "white noise" in the background. We also brought our own fan for the cabin. So between the highway noise and the fan we slept soundly at night and could not hear what was going on at any other campsite. Our cabin was spotless also. I did bring bug spray just in case. We also brought an extension cord and 6 prong outlet as there was only one outlet in the cabin. We also brought our own small mini fridge. I recommend bringing all of the above equipment to make your stay enjoyable. The pools were well maintained and while we were there they were installing a new brick walkway and putting in some lovely flower beds. The only negative about the park is that there is an area behind the office, and spilling over into unused sites, of just plan junk! They have old RVs, bits of metal, concrete, etc in a visible area. They could improve the park setting greatly by having a fenced in area of their construction supplies. People do not want to look at that and that is a shame. If they cleaned that area up a bit they would get a higher rating. We camped at Camp Sandusky in a Campground Cabin.

Date of Stay: August, 2013 - $44.00
Overall Rating:

We stayed here 4 nights in August. This camp is located within a few miles of the shores of Lake Erie and The Cedar Point amusement park. It is a camp people come to because of what it's near, not for the campground itself. Our $44 back-in lot nightly rate reflects the camp's location, not its amenities. The campground itself is clean, well kept. Spaces are tight together, but I've seen tighter. WiFi reported that it was present with an excellent signal, but connection speed was as always as disappointingly slow as an old dial-up connection. I was able to use my private 4G hotspot without problem. Treed lots made for a pleasant, wooded, atmosphere, but satellite TV was out of the question, and no cable access in the area where we camped. Pull through spots were available at $66 a night, but were no wider than back-in spots, so other than being “pull-through”, and possibly offering cable (?), we could not discern why they were rented at a rate 50% higher than back-ins. A big plus for the campground is it is very socially active, there are gatherings and events for campers to mingle. A big minus is most of those gatherings and events take place in a large central pavilion – but the campground does not have access paths to the pavilion, so campers have no choice but to cut through others' campsites to get to the pavilion. The lots were close together as it was, and it quickly became very annoying to have a constant parade of people walking two feet from my chair on their way through my lot toward the pavilion. Were it not for this, I would have given a higher rating. We camped at Camp Sandusky in a Fifth Wheel.

We arrived after dark and were assigned the first site past the office. The site was next to a falling down Park Model and had an old utility trailer half parked on it. The site was a literal mud hole. Went back to office to tell them and they seemed somewhat surprised, but assigned us to another site. Sites are all grass and swampy due to recent rains, but our new site was solid enough to park on. You could see quite a few sites where campers had buried their trailers in the mud and looked as though they had to be towed out. Sites are very close together and set up at an angle which is not marked, leading to confusion when backing in. Showers were outdated, but clean. There are not walls in the stalls, but a bunch of shower curtains attached to pipes separating stalls. This Campground is definitely not a destination park, but tolerable to stay at to go sightseeing, if weather conditions are dry. We camped at Camp Sandusky in a Travel Trailer.

This was our second stay at Camp Sandusky; we chose it again because our first stay was adequate for our purposes of going to Cedar Point. I do not think we'll choose it again. The Wi-Fi signal was strong, but the connection was so slow it was absolutely unusable (at various times of the day, not just evenings). Our site was near the shower house which got worse since our last visit. We expected the highway noise, but it was drowned out by drunk tent-campers howling for the Karaoke night in the nearby pavilion. There was a severe storm (probably the same referenced by recent reviews) and the standing water was so bad I had to walk around and take pictures. Travel Trailers had to be removed by a backhoe/front-loader. I understand Mother Nature is beyond their control, but adequate drainage is not. From my observations the camp is run by several older couples, possibly as a retirement investment, and not proactively managed. We actually prefer state parks and are used to bugs and messy shower houses but this was far worse. I'm disappointed because our first stay wasn't great but good enough to come back, but after this last stay I believe we'll look elsewhere. We camped at Camp Sandusky in a Travel Trailer.
