I am new to this site and getting into RVing but I grew up in this campground and all around Canton Lake. It was the place to go with my grandparents, and Big Bend was where we stayed 90% of the time. The lake has been down in the past years due to OKC using the water and a drought but it is now over full. We never had any issue going here and always enjoyed the walk up to the top of the hill to the shower house, it meant having to take a shower and getting to play on the playground.
Also, the gas station at the top of the hill before you enter the park was always a good place to go for a cheeseburger!! I am not in my late 30's and can't wait to get our first family camper and head here with my young family!
The Cons- I rated it a 8 overall because there is always room to get better. I don't believe there is any WiFi but when I am out at the lake, I would prefer to disconnect with the world. As this area is prone to storms, it would be nice if there were storm shelters near by but I know people in the past on the Canadian side used the hardened bathroom/shower houses. The shower house on Big Bend has an open roof in some places. When there was really bad weather approaching that could produce a tornado we always drove into the town of Canton and went to a church basement.
I hope this helps, as I do love this place of the world. The price above was just a guess as my grandparents always payed the bill and the last five years or so worked in the summer picking up tree limbs and flipping signs posts. - Steigergreen

Rate reflects Golden Age pass. The park itself is very nice, although it appears to be an older COE park. I'm basing this on the narrower roads than in many other COE parks, and the older restrooms and shower facilities. The entrance into the park itself is narrow, and the 4 miles of county road leading to the park is VERY narrow with patches and no shoulder. Parking pads themselves are narrow, though many are quite long. The biggest problem for us were the low-hanging tree limbs. At 13'6", we could only clear less than a dozen. Long rigs will also have a bit of an issue backing into the sites, which are also narrow. This is probably normally a very busy lake in the summer; this year the lake is down a ways, so there were quite a few available -- just few we could get into. Due to the low limbs and bad road coming in, we probably wouldn't stay here again. - HDT

Nice clean & quiet campground. Sites were spacious with large space between campsites. Ours had enough room for a tent. This was our first time here. We stayed 4 nights & would return again. - stella fouche

We stayed the week before Labor Day and the campground was almost empty (but is fully booked for the holiday weekend). The park has basically two separate parts, an older section with lots of shade but uneven back-in sites and limited electricity in combination with water. None seem to have sewer, but a dump station is available. The newer section has excellent back-in and pull-through sites, level concrete with full e/w/s and patios, but trees aren't grown out yet. All sites are roomy, clean, and well maintained. Registration person was friendly and pointed out the features (and differences) between the two sections. - ausonius

It is a COE lake and campground which is well maintained and clean. Many campsites are near the water. The grass was well trimmed, and lake access was fair. The Host was helpful, friendly and courteous. I look forward to my next visit. - vmartin

One of the best COE parks around. Great views of the lake from most of the camp sites. - glbaker44

This state park is highlighted by the cold natural springs that flow through the area. This family friendly beauty has something for everyone and is super budget friendly. A well kept golf course, colorful miniature golf, double seat paddle boats, rentals for kayaks and canoes. The large swimming pool has 2 slides, a rock wall for climbing and diving in and a splash pad accessible from outside the pool area. A large lake is great for fishing and boating.
The highlight of this historic park is the natural spring that flow through the entire area. Cold water is a refreshing respite after hiking one of the many trails that wonder through the mountains.
A general store is within walking distance of all the camp sites. Appreciated details are newly renovated bathrooms and showers, friendly park rangers and staff. Sites are everything ranging from tent, partial and full full service. Each site has a picnic table, fire ring and small grill. Find a favorite spot while you are there? This park is a "resort" park. We were disappointed in their use of the word "resort". It did have a lodge, restaurant and golf course, but this is a very old park. The lack of signage is really an issue. We had no idea where we were going when we came in and called the park office to make sure we were heading to the campgrounds. The park office is located in the lodge which isn't near the campgrounds. Our site was a FHU with a concrete pad. All utilities worked good. In the campground there was a General Store and miniature golf course but both were closed while we were there. We tried to do some hiking but the trails are not marked at all and there were so many places where the trail took off a different direction that we just turned around and went back. The Xeroxed map of the park and trails was unreadable. We probably wouldn't stay here again. - jacknpeg

This campground is located in Roman Nose State Park. We stayed at the campground closest to the lake. The site was a pull through and gravel. We were there over Labor Day Weekend, so the park was very full. Pool was closed, which didn't make us happy. I did get to play golf on their course, which I highly recommend. The city of Watonga is about 10 mins from the park. The park is located approximately 35 minutes from the Interstate. - Youngcop
