Bathrooms and facilities were extremely clean and we commented how well the park was taken care of. There is very little to do here, but we enjoyed the quiet clean campground. Fishing was amazing for a small little hole and the staff was very pleasant and cordial. Great place to camp, but bring something to do. We camped at Black Mesa State Park in a Motorhome.

Took a bit of driving to get there and it was an extremely windy day so stressful. Nice park because it is out and away from town and the stars gazing was nice. We had no wifi or TV or internet, kind of nice to be away from all that. Ranger was very helpful. The site was so level we did not need to put the jacks down. The park was very peaceful. We camped at Black Mesa State Park in a Motorhome.

Overall Rating:

This is a great state park in the extreme west pan handle of OK, the nearest gas/store/town is 30 miles away. The skies are very dark at night, a great place for star gazing/astronomy. The park ranger is very friendly and helpful. There are multiple camp areas, some with concrete pads in the shade near the restroom (slight occasional smell depending on wind), others with covered tables on open grass spaced out widely, and some others that are a bit closer together. All of the roads are paved. Each of the sites have electricity and most all have water. All of these are at the south end of a small lake. Verizon cell service is non existent, but there is some slow wifi available near the park office. This is a very tranquel place to get away and disconnect, relax, and enjoy the outdoors. Be sure to bring a fly swatter!! The flies are terrible in this part of OK. We camped at Black Mesa State Park in a Motorhome.

We arrived after hours on a Saturday in the first leg of a long trip. The campground was fairly full. Did appear that some of the sites were close together but we stayed across from the bathrooms right as you pull in and our site was spacious enough. Pretty park, worth the trek to get there. There was a heavy downpour the night we stayed so the road we drove in on was covered by rushing water but we were still able to traverse the roadway. We camped at Black Mesa State Park in a Travel Trailer.

Date of Stay: April, 2016 - $20.00
Overall Rating:

As others have said, this a a remote area in the Oklahoma Panhandle. The sites are grass and quite close to each other, although the ones nearer to the restroom seem a little better spaced out. We were there on a Wednesday and Thursday, and there were several empty spaces. Restrooms were clean and well maintained. There was definitely a sewage odor in the restroom vicinity, however. There are several small nature hikes in the campground itself, but you have to drive to reach the Black Mesa trail head. We camped at Black Mesa State Park in a Travel Trailer.

Tips for other Campers:

There is NO gas station in Kenton....nearest gas is in Boise City. If you are in the area, the hike to the top of Black Mesa is worthwhile, if for no other reason than to say you have bagged the highest "peak" in Oklahoma. The hike is fairly long, so be sure you are prepared with lots of water.

Stayed during the week early in the season and there was only one other RV there. Ranger is very friendly and helpful. Quiet with the exception of an occasional vehicle on the main road through the park but we selected the site near the road due to easy access. No cell phone service but you can drive to the top of a nearby hill and get AT&T. RV dump is difficult to get to for a big rig. Very remote campground but near Black Mesa Nature Preserve. Hiked Black Mesa and saw 12 bighorn sheep. We camped at Black Mesa State Park in a Motorhome.

We stayed two days in Black Mesa State Park, but wish we could have stayed more. The park is beautiful. There was only one other occupied site. It was pleasant to hike the nature trail, do a bit of bicycling, and just relax. Your cell phone won't work, but there is Wi-Fi, at least near the park office. The skies were crystal clear, and there were lots of stars at night. Black Mesa State Park is an undiscovered gem for those who enjoy nature We camped at Black Mesa State Park in a Travel Trailer.

If you are looking for peace and solitude, this is the place. It is way out in the far reaches of No Man's Land. Have all that you need with you and enjoy your stay. It's a great place to get away from it all. We camped at Black Mesa State Park in a Motorhome.

Overall Rating:

This is a beautiful spot in a remote location on the plains. The nearest "town" is Kenton, 8 miles away where you will find a small general store and two gas pumps. Don't arrive here low on fuel because you may have to travel a long way - depending on which direction you're heading - before you can refuel. There is a country store on the park grounds, but plan to have everything you need with you before you arrive. There are a dozen or so sites with 30-amp and water, one pull thru. Also many other dry camp sites. $2 off rates for seniors (over 62). Be sure to you know directions before you travel because some of the turns and roads are not marked. Also, depending on your carrier, you probably will not have cell phone coverage in the park. Lots of hiking opportunities and plenty of wild life. We had mule deer and wild turkeys strolling around our RV each morning we were there. We will stay here again when passing though. We camped at Black Mesa State Park in a Motorhome.
