The campground is situated on a finger of land, affording water views to nearly every campsite. Several have water access. The campground roads are paved and the sites are gravel. Each site has a covered picnic table and fire pit. They are reasonably level, mostly with shade, and 30 amp electric and water. There are no full hookup spots. We arrived on a weekend and the place was nearly full with lots of people fishing, boating, and jet skiing. Several children were playing in the water. By Sunday night most everyone had left and there were lots of prime sites available to travelers. Generally speaking, the sites looking out over the lake itself are on a bluff. Those on the cove are closer to water level. We were mildly disappointed that the weeds between us and the lake on our bluff side spot were tall enough to obstruct what would have been great lake views. I had no problem getting satellite TV and my Verizon 4G was weak but usable. Probably the biggest negative to this campground is getting to it. It is about 30 miles from I-35 and the roads get increasingly rough, narrow, and hilly as you travel. Whether or not traveling these roads is worthwhile for you depends on how long you plan to stay and how much you enjoy a lakeside campground. We camped at Coon Creek COE in a Fifth Wheel.

This is COE park, it was very clean, new restrooms and were very clean, they are the kind that gets stuffing and hot in the summer...so shower early or late. We stayed in #47, #48 and #49 with a group of friends, these are very large, flat and nice sites. Each site has a covered table, fire pit, grill and small table for serving. There are lots of trees for shade. Most sites have trees, however a few are in the sun. Most sites are long, however a very few are kind of short, so pay attention to the length when you reserve the site. The lake was very muddy, which is to be expected since it is a river lake. We caught several nice catfish on jug lines...almost enough for a fish fry! We stayed 3 nights. The camp hosts were very nice. The park was very quiet even though it was full...I am thinking that is because the sites are pretty nice size. The ones down by the boat ramp are closer together, but still better than other places we have been. There is a boat ramp in the park that is nice and wide with a boat dock as well that will fit 3 boats docking while waiting for trailers to be backed down. There is really no swimming area in this park, but you can drive a few miles down to a designated swimming area in I think it was called Pioneer Park. We camped at Coon Creek COE in a Fifth Wheel.

Tips for other Campers:

Ponca City is close, there are two geocaches in the park itself, we didn't go get them, but they are there. Kaw City only has one gas station. The Catfishing below the dam when they are release water is amazing...very large catfish. There is a water park close by with other things to do there as well.

We found the park to be shady and well mowed. Bathrooms and showers were spacious and clean. Previous campers had left trash that was not picked up. Choose your sites carefully as some are small and grassy. Overall, we enjoyed our stay and would camp there again. We camped at Coon Creek COE in a Travel Trailer.

Another COE campground: very nice. Very friendly gate attendants. Some of the sites are still grass and uneven. We were in site #48 and 49. Very shaded and large with flat large back in sites. These sites had covered concrete tables, fire ring and standup grill both along with a side table. These sites were waterfront just across the road with the ability to pull your boat up to the shore. Not all sites had that. Very quiet even though it was full, had lots of space between sites, in these specific sites. The sites in the circle we stayed in, did not have a through street, but a turn around. Had to unhook the boat, which we pull behind our 5th wheel to make the turn around. But totally doable. We camped at Coon Creek COE in a Fifth Wheel.

Tips for other Campers:

There weren't any small stores around to buy ice, had to go into Ponca City to do that: about 20 minutes away. Lots of things to do in Ponca City, Movie Theater, Museums, Parks, etc.

The Dam was open due to the high lake levels and there were a lot of fish to be caught below the dam.

Very nice campsite. Nice newer shower and restrooms throughout campsites. Lots of trees and grass. Grounds are well maintained. Water and electric hookups no sewer but there is a dump station outside the campgrounds. Would definitely recommend to stay here. We camped at Coon Creek COE in a Travel Trailer.

Another good COE park. Very friendly gate attendants. The rate reflects the access pass discount. They have made some improvements with new restrooms and showers. Some of the sites are still grass and uneven. We were in site #37, which was large, level and had plenty of room. We enjoyed our stay. We will return, if we are back in the area. We camped at Coon Creek COE in a Fifth Wheel.

Rate reflects Access Pass discount. This is an outstanding COE campground on a beautiful lake, with excellent fishing and hundreds of waterfowl. The long back-in sites are gravel, most (but not all) are very level. Widely spaced campsites have ample privacy and some of the sites have spectacular lake views (be sure to cruise around first to locate the choicest sites). Showers are hot and the restrooms are clean. Covered tables, grills and fire rings, plenty of trees to cut the heat. This COE campground is off the beaten path, but still only 15 minutes to Ponca City. We would definitely stay here again. We camped at Coon Creek COE in a Motorhome.

Typical Corps of Engineers park. Large camping spots - some in clusters (fairly close together), some with LOTS of open space around them. Well maintained hard surface roads, fire rings, picnic tables (many covered). Gate closes at 10:00 p.m. Nice, quiet stop in WINDY Northern Oklahoma. We camped at Coon Creek COE in a Fifth Wheel.
