Rate is CAD and includes taxes. I thought it was a little steep for a site with only water and electricity. That said, this is a very attractive campground: well-maintained grounds, spotless washrooms and showers, many extra features, such as a pool (which was closed for the season when we visited, but the trade-off was no bugs). Sites are quite close together and have various amenities depending on price: cable, patio with BBQ, sewer. Most sites are pull-through. Our pull-through was not quite long enough for our 23' trailer and tow vehicle, but longer pull-throughs are available. Wifi was slow but reliable. The campground was quite busy for this time of year, the majority of visitors being overnighters. Staff were friendly and helpful, and the campground is dog-friendly. We camped at Sault Ste. Marie KOA in a Travel Trailer.

This is a great campground! The staff was awesome and went out of their way to get us setup. It is an extremely dog friendly campground. The owners have show dogs so there was a smallish fenced off area, an area for experienced obstacle course runs, and another play area. There is also great trails to walk your dogs. I have 2 dogs so it was great to have all this fun stuff to do! The internet worked great and i was able to get caught up on my emails etc. The campground is spotless. Very close to Sault St Marie on the Canada side. I would suggest reservations during the peak summer months. They were pretty full. We camped at Sault Ste. Marie KOA in a Motorhome.

The access road off the highway winds its way through a scenic grove of trees before you see the actual campground. The office staff were excellent. Quick check-in and all my questions answered. An escort took us to our site who made sure that our rig was lined up right on the pad. It was a fairly level gravel pull-through. The sewer hookup was towards the rear while the electric and water were closer to the middle. Our power was 30 amp, but 50 amp is available. All utilities worked fine. Our gravel pull-through site had some nice landscaping with grass and trees between sites. Each of the rows in our area were named after an animal and ours was moose. There were lots of variety in the size and amenities of the various sites. A few of the bigger sites for Class As had patios and swinging chairs. The longest sites accommodated any length of RV, tow, or towed. The laundry was situated behind the office. There were 4 washers and 4 dryers. They were commercial grade and did the job. Each costs 3 loonies. Washers go for 30 or so minutes and dryers for 48. There is a small gift shop in the office building as well. Outside, there are a few trails that end up close to the river, but it's too steep and too many trees to get to it. I was impressed with this campground and would have no hesitation in coming back here to stay again. We camped at Sault Ste. Marie KOA in a Motorhome.

Overall Rating:

This KOA was the best of the KOA's we had utilized on our Ontario 2 week vacation. The site is beautiful, not large, but I have yet to see a KOA with generous sizes for their sites. The only drawback we had for the reservations was that we were traveling with another family and, for some reason, they decided to put us across the road from each other. We had requested to be next to each other. The pool was great, small but heated, which was nice since the area was a tad chilly due to the weather at the time. Amenities were also the cheapest of all the KOA's we stayed at, the drawback being if you didn't have Canadian cash, they were offering a 1:1 exchange for US currency... which is a significant profit in their benefit. Most other businesses would allow a rough exchange rate. This KOA has dedicated extensive resources to dog lovers, having a pet spa area, and a large dog park/agility area. The showers were super new and super clean. It's family owned and the owners were on site the entire time and super friendly also. The park was pretty quiet too. Plenty of stuff to do for families. We camped at Sault Ste. Marie KOA in a Fifth Wheel.

Tips for other Campers:

Get Canadian cash before arriving. Make sure you have plenty of bug spray on hand. The mosquitoes and flys were tolerable, but only before the sun went down. Once down, they came out a bit more aggressively. Still, not the worst I have experienced in Canada.

Access was tight. Our pullthru sight was barely long enough for our 30ft trailer and truck. It was so narrow that the firepit was two ft away from our trailer. Therefore no fire. An inexperienced rver would have difficulty. Great amenities for dogs but then they don't do the driving or paying. We camped at Sault Ste. Marie KOA in a Travel Trailer.

Sault Ste Marie KOA, owner at Sault Ste. Marie KOA responded to this review

We are not sure what site this guest was on but our sites are sized to fit the rigs as booked by the guest. It’s possible this guests site was undersized due to lack of availability.

Our roads and sites are kept well clear of obstructions and the biggest of rigs get around very well. We have a big rig and understand the needs to manouver.

Don't usually stay at KOAs as they are overpriced even with the favorable exchange rate. This one was nice but has no sewer, which one would expect for the price. Well run park. Nice woodsy setting. Ok for a night or two. We camped at Sault Ste. Marie KOA in a Motorhome.

Great park for overnighting on your way through or spending a few days exploring the 'Soo'. We've stayed here many times. The owners are continually upgrading aspects of the park, and are very conscientious about the park's appearance, it's cleanliness and features. It shows in the number of awards they've received over the past 10 years. New kids games being added this summer, and additional Rover friendly runs - they were under construction while we were staying. Appears they have been widening some turns, relocating some services and sites to make sure campers of all experience levels can easily park their rigs. New and improved raised tent sites as well. Owners are RV enthusiasts and very helpful in solving minor issues. Even got my motorhome weighed on-site to make sure all was good. Well worth the price. WIll come back again. September 16, Sault Ste. Marie KOA-Holiday, $56 for water & electric, right off route 17, country feeling, site 45, full hookups available, dump station, store, laundry, pool, basketball court, horseshoe pit, mini golf, rover's run, pathway to river, tenting, cabins, grooming salon for pets We needed a campground to do laundry and recharge before we continued east on our way home. This campground fit the bill. It was expensive but this is one of the best KOA campgrounds we have ever stayed at. Check-in was fast, friendly and informative. The laundry area and bathhouse were clean, clean and clean. Nice area for dogs to run. Our site had a picnic table and fire pit and the angle of all their sites (more than 70) gave us some privacy. There are bushes between each site. Some restaurants even deliver to your site but many charge a delivery charge as well as Ontario's 13% tax. Lots to do in the area but don't miss the Historic Visitor Canal Center in town. Restaurants, gas stations and services are within a mile of the campground. This campground was voted 2015 Top Campground and last year Top Business in the area. Nice stay and if in the area we would stay here again. We camped at Sault Ste. Marie KOA in a Motorhome.

As others have said...a truly superior campground in every regard and convenient to all of the "Soo". Price is C$ less 20% for US. We stayed 3 nights in record downpours and still the site and campground was reasonably navigable due to the efforts of the staff. The only thing I can think to complain about is Canadian Cable TV...the channels suck! It is easy to see why this place wins so many awards. Next time...I think I'll stay south of the locks on the US side because it seems there is more to do...but you can't go wrong at this campground. We camped at Sault Ste. Marie KOA in a Motorhome.

This is one of the nicest campgrounds we have experienced in our 10 years of RV'ing. It is convenient to Hwy 17 but is very quiet. Everything is well organized and well maintained. Check-in was friendly and efficient and we were escorted to our site. We were in a W/E 30 amp site that was still plenty big enough for our 37 ft motorhome and tow car. Sites will accommodate anything from tents to big rigs. Roads and sites are gravel and easy to maneuver around even with lots of trimmed trees. Bathrooms, showers and laundry room were modern and very clean. There were also extra amenities like an RV wash station, a nice dog wash station, and compressed air available at the dump station. There is a fenced dog area and dog trails through the woods. This is a gem of a park and we would be glad to stay here anytime. We camped at Sault Ste. Marie KOA in a Motorhome.
