Overall Rating:

All fees are in Cdn $ before tax. This is our second year visiting Crystal Lake, a large but low volume campground. Large because it is in a parcel of land about 40 acres in size. Low volume because there are only a handful of spaces. The wife and co-owner is very helpful and was able to find us a 100'+ level, asphalt, site with 50/30 & 20 amp, water and sewer. We also scored what I would suggest is their best pull-through site, #2. This has a couple of large conifer trees that afford some shade and screening between site #1 & 2 in addition to the strip of grass about 30' wide. All sites appear to have a fire pit and picnic bench table. This husband and wife team are constantly busy, even on a Sunday, mowing the grass, collecting garbage from waste bins placed between sites and generally maintaining the campground. Their high work ethic really shows and this CG is very well presented. The utilities worked perfectly during our stay and are well placed (for my rig) along the site. Wi-Fi is included in the cost of the site and worked well enough to open emails and browse web sites. Water is provided from the spring fed lake adjacent to the CG. The owners are confident that it is safe to drink but government regulations mean they have to show a "Boil Water" advisory. We drank the water and suffered no ill effects. The washrooms are clean and tidy. Since my first visit the owners have clearly indicated which showers are male and female but I didn't use them showers because we used our onboard facilities. There is a small laundry for a $2 charge, payable at the office. This really is a great little campground and most definitely the best we have stayed at both years while passing through Ontario. Whenever we are back out this way I would most certainly look to stay here again. The opportunity to relax is stunning and after several days of driving this is a wonderful place to rest for a few days. We camped at Crystal Lake Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

Tips for other Campers:

Behind the office is a soft, sandy beach area providing access to a safe swimming space. A variety of canoes and kayaks are available to rent. The lake is really beautiful and has a short trail the heads from the CG. If there is one word of caution, it is within earshot of a railroad line and the trains, although not frequent, do announce their presence. Small grocery store in Vermilion Bay (10 minutes away) that has most essential food items.

Overall Rating:

The price indicated is in Cdn $ and includes tax for a 50amp FHU, pull-thru, asphalt site that is fairly level. Each site appears to have a picnic table and seats, trashcan and a fire pit. There are five pull-thrus, all approximately 100’ long. #2 has a couple of mature cedar trees that afford some screening from site #1. The remaining sites have about 15 - 20’ of grass separation.

The CG has approximately 28 mixed sites in a 40-acre section of land located by a small lake with a nice sandy shore. Unfortunately, for our three-day stay it rained heavily so we couldn’t get out to explore too much.

The shower houses have two or three showers each but there doesn’t appear to be any distinction as to which is male or female. We used our onboard facilities anyway. The same shower house also has toilets in each side. In another block located closer to the lake, there are two separate rooms with toilets and a room with a washing machine (replaced while I was there) and a dryer but I don’t know how much these are to operate.

We had an open ground fault when connecting to the electric so we moved to another site the following day after one opened up but I did see the owner repairing the defective pedestal a day or two later.

The CG appeared quite empty after our first night with only a couple of RV’s being there at anyone time

There are trains nearby but these do not appear to run through the night and it wasn’t a problem. Located about 1km from the highway so very little in the way of traffic noise.

The owner was down to earth, honest and friendly. Always appears busy working and making improvements.

We couldn’t pick up any OTA TV signals but the pull-thru sites do lend themselves to being satellite friendly. I didn’t see a dog walk area but equally, we don’t have a dog so I wasn’t really looking for one either. Wi-Fi is included in the price of staying and worked well enough for us. We camped at Crystal Lake Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

Tips for other Campers:

Pleasant 4km trail starting and finishing at the CG. Try the "Comfort Table Bakery" about 4kms further east along Hwy 17. Great coffee, pastries and chilli. Small grocery store in the town is good for basics but you might want to bring most of your groceries with you. Diesel available at the Shell gas station further east along Hwy 17. Liquor store (LCBO in Ontario) for wines, beer, etc also further east on the hwy.

This was an unexpected surprise - truly a "10" rating!!!! A tiny little campground on a lovely little lake, just off the Trans-Canada highway with 5 super-generous, satellite friendly big rig sites! 100+ ft long level gravel sites with 50 amp electric and full-hookups (but not).

There was one BIG problem here though. Their water supply comes directly from the spring-fed lake and is not treated. The written rules to the campground noted this, and said that while they (the owners) were highly confident of the cleanliness of their water, the government compels them to advise campers to boil water before consuming it.

This would not have been a problem for us had we known in advance, as we would have arrived with a full tank of fresh water on board, and an adequate supply of drinking water, ice, etc. But we were not advised of this on the phone when I made reservations, and we arrived with less than 10% of fresh water in our tanks. Not enough for bathing, cooking, etc. And I only had a half-dozen small bottles of water for drinking.
We chose not to risk a GI illness from unfamiliar (to us) untreated water. So our rating of this lovely spot must reflect this unanticipated surprise. If they'd told me in advance, so I could come prepared (as I do when I know I won't have a water supply) we would totally give them a high score. We camped at Crystal Lake Campground in a Motorhome.

As we drove into this small campground (28 sites, no seasonals) I commented to my wife that the grounds were so immaculate, that it reminded me of a golf course. This 40 acre property sits on a lovely little lake with a sandy beach (where we enjoyed a couple of hard lemonade before dinner). There is a 4 km hike, though we only journeyed to the lookoff point where the owners made a tree-log bench for viewing. There is a playground for the children, as well as Adirondack and zero gravity chairs for enjoying the tranquility at the sandy beach. Most sites are 100ft long EWS, but tenting is also possible. $39 for EWS pull-through. Washrooms and showers were immaculately clean. Unfortunately we only stayed one night as we were on our way to the Rockies, as this is a true gem. We camped at Crystal Lake Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

Overall Rating:

This is a completely awesome park. The owners have put so much effort into making this a welcoming place. You can take a walk in the woods, take a swim, sit along the sandy lake shore, play a game of basketball or volleyball, or just sit quietly at your site. Sites 1-5 are very big rig friendly. They are 100' long, pull-through, and paved. Other sites are nestled in the trees and work well for shorter rigs or tents. Wi-Fi worked very well. There is a well maintained gravel road coming off the highway into the park, but it is only about 1 km. The entrance to the park and all park roads are paved. We camped at Crystal Lake Campground in a Motorhome.

Overall Rating:

A really pleasant small park in Northern Ontario. Great paved pull thrus with well though out services over 100' long. Lots of room between sites. Access road is gravel but less than 1km. No antenna TV. Wi-Fi advertised but at check in you are given a note explaining that you must be near the office to access this free service. You are also advised that you get what you pay for and significant periods of no service might be expected. I sat outside the office on numerous occasions with two different computers trying unsuccessfully to connect. I wish parks with poor Wi-Fi would not advertise Wi-Fi available. We camped at Crystal Lake Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

Good location 1 Km off the Trans Canada, down a good gravel road. Easy access, most sites appear level although one or two of the back-ins slope side to side. Excellent WiFi with good coverage throughout. Friendly and helpful owners who obviously spend a lot of time keeping the park in good shape. We would definitely camp here again. We camped at Crystal Lake Campground in a Motorhome.

Overall Rating:

Good quality gravel road approximately 1 km to campground. Very nice setting and very friendly owner. Lake is very pretty. Pull thru sites could fit 2 fifth wheels back to back but are set up for one. There is plenty of room between sites as well. Very rare to find so much room at each site. Garbage cans at the end of each site Easy access to Trans Canada. Would definitely return to this campground if in the area. We camped at Crystal Lake Campground in a Fifth Wheel.
