Large gravel site being about 50'x50' (or so) with lots of space between sites. Blacktop loop road and short blacktop stub leading to each gravel site. Well maintained. Sites were not level but with a casual glance at other sites nothing appeared to be extreme. Our site was on the east loop and we were out in the open. Water, 50A hookups were near the rear and sewer was about center of the site. Water pressure was good and tasted OK. We arrived late morning but since there was no one in our site we were able to setup. Verizon voice/data was average. Had plenty of room for our 38' MH and towed. Lots of hiking trails and the Banks Vernonia Trail (a rails to trails trail) goes through the park. We camped at L.L. Stub Stewart Memorial State Park in a Motorhome.

This is a newer park in a wooded area (mostly conifers) on a hill. It's scenic and not too far NW of the Portland, Oregon, metro area. There are plenty of trails to hike on. We stayed in the Dairy Creek Camp West loop. There are tall trees behind the sites. These are our favorites providing privacy: 2, 4, 12, 14, and 17. Sites in the 35 to 53 row are more open to each other though they are spaced well. They have some smaller trees and shrubs that in time will help separate the sites. These 5 sites we wouldn't recommend: 7, 9, 31, 32, 54. In general all the sites seemed level. The front part is asphalt. The rear part of the sites and picnic areas are gravel. We enjoyed this park and will be back. We camped at L.L. Stub Stewart Memorial State Park in a Motorhome.

Reservations recommended on weekends and holidays as is just 30ish miles away from Portland. Online reservation a breeze to use. Pretty hiking /biking/equestrian trails through deep forest and woods. Camped in Dairy Creek East. A pop machine was located at entrance to camp loop. Free hot showers included with camp fees. Children's big toy playground area near restrooms. Nice dump areas for used dish water. Awesome knowledgeable and conscientious camp host. Would camp here again. We camped at L.L. Stub Stewart Memorial State Park in a Travel Trailer.

Tips for other Campers:

Great hiking and bicycling trails through park. Fenced, but not mowed, dog excercise area by Hilltop Day Use area. Small visitors center in Discovery Room at main park office, with some hands on exhibit items good for young visitors.

This is one of my favorites stops in Northern Oregon. Close enough to I-5 for access, but remote enough for quiet. Dairy Creek East is more family oriented -- a play structure at one end, and open with few trees, so you can easily keep an eye on the kids. We camped at L.L. Stub Stewart Memorial State Park in a Motorhome.

This is a new Oregon Park and it's very nice. This park has lots and lots of bike trails and hiking trails -- even some horse trails. We've enjoyed walking and driving to various small towns in the area. We didn't get satallite but it could have been just our site. PHones and lap tops worked great. The sites are very nice with lots of space between them and they are huge. Very friendly hosts too. We camped at L.L. Stub Stewart Memorial State Park in a Motorhome.

Fortunately able to stay in WEST loop, campsites and tent sites much larger seemingly than more crowded, smaller sites in East loop. Camp hosts helpful and rangers provided very good information, cleaning and individual campsite cleaning began virtually as each former night's tenant departed which was highly visible. Others have already cited adequacy of biking and hiking trails. Cabins area very impressive as well as horse stalls and full hookups, 18 as I recall, in equestrian area. Very impressed with park and those who maintained this park w/highly positive attitudes and an expressed appreciation for visiting. We camped at L.L. Stub Stewart Memorial State Park in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

Vernonia 10 miles away w/fascinating Library, Chamber of Commerce and adequate choice of restaurants/supermarkets. Be SURE to try BLUE CAFE in downtown, best Mediterranean food in Northwest! Locally owned and operated, we had conversations with other diners from Seattle and Portland areas who visit this restaurant due to its menu and quality of food.

Probably the closest state park to Portland (25 miles), there are two RV loops, a tent area, a hike-in area, cabins and a horse camp. I stayed here in January & February and only one loop is open during the off season. Though in the foothills of the Coastal Mountain Range, the climate is quite mild. Even during the winter months it only dropped below freezing twice. It also has two disk golf courses, but the main attraction is hiking. There are several trails within the park itself and it is at the midpoint of the 21-mile Banks-Vernonia Rails to Trails trail which is paved and has trailheads every few miles. It is a really great bike trail. There is no broadcast and television reception, even with a dish there are too many trees in many spots. No Internet either. At the visitor center is a small museum/store with some interesting exhibits. But only snacks. We camped at L.L. Stub Stewart Memorial State Park in a Travel Trailer.

Oregon has great state parks - this one is awesome. Huge area on hillsides from Highway 26, with bike trails everywhere- but a lot of climbing; a real workout. Sites are mostly large and comfy. West side has more trees, but many sites are still in open meadows. We had tree dust and sap on our rig. Showers had standing water and trash, so we reported to host and the Ranger. They had a staffing issue and cleaned up asap. Had great Verizon cell and internet but no TV. Very popular place, reservations suggested, though we did snag a weekday site at 1pm. We camped at L.L. Stub Stewart Memorial State Park in a Motorhome.

It was our fist visit to this park and we were there for the bike trail. The park is very nice and has wide, open sites on gravel. The roads and driveways are paved, the sites are on very fine gravel. Hookups are there, well working. You have plenty of room on your site and between sites is plenty of grass. The restrooms are what you can expect at a State Park, they were clean but could be cleaner. What I missed was a ventilation in the restrooms and the individual showers, the moisture can't get out and therefore you see mildew grow in the upper corners. Our satellite worked fine but we didn't have a phone or internet signal from Virgin mobile, both were working fine down in Banks. We will definitely return, we liked it very much. We camped at L.L. Stub Stewart Memorial State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Nice large gravel campsites. The West campground has nice trees, while the East does not, so on a hot day make sure you camp at the West campground. The park has some really great hiking trails and a Frisbee golf course. We went on a guided hike by a Ranger who did a great job keeping the kids entertained and we learned a lot. The bike trail looks like it would be a really fun family thing but we did not have our bikes with us. We camped at L.L. Stub Stewart Memorial State Park in a Travel Trailer.

Stub Stewart has two campgrounds. 78 full hook-up sites (50 amp, 50 ft sites), all ADA compliant with picnic tables and fire rings. There 78 sites are separated into two areas: Dairy Creek Camp West has 43 sites and is a bit more treed, and Dairy Creek Camp East has 35 sites and is much more open (you can practically see every site from any site). Each camping area has flush toilets and free hot showers. Verizon coverage good. Hosts not very friendly and park rangers were difficult to find. We camped at L.L. Stub Stewart Memorial State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

We chose this park thinking it would be a good base camp from which to explore the Portland and Columbia River Gorge area. In practice it was just a bit too far away (31 miles) to be convenient. The trade off, however, is the splendid isolation of the park, it's brand new facilities, the big sites spread out over a large area and a great trail system. As a new park, the trees are still small and the campsite areas are exposed. Over time, this will become a gorgeous campground. For now it's already a good choice to explore the Vernonia area and the northwest sector of Oregon including Tillamook. As a base to visit Portland or the Gorge, the 62 mile round trip can be trying. We camped at L.L. Stub Stewart Memorial State Park in a Travel Trailer.

This was a very clean and newer State Park. The hook ups were very modern with clean, level, large gravel pads to park and still have plenty of room for tents, canopies, etc. Every site had a large picnic table and fire ring. There was not a playground that I could find, but there were biking and hiking trails for the kids. They do sell firewood and there are a few soda machines but other than that it is come as you are as far as supplies. I tried to connect to wireless, as a previous poster stated there was, but I did not receive any signal. I received two or three channels of TV from my antenna but was glad I had brought movies. Satellite reception should be no problem as most of the trees around the sites themselves have not yet grown to heights to interfere. We camped at L.L. Stub Stewart Memorial State Park in a Motorhome.

This is a brand new Oregon State Park. It opened July 2007. There is a total of 82 RV sites with only 1 pull through site. There are 34 tent sites with 22 being hike in only. There are 15 cabins available for reservation along with 16 horse camp sites. Most of the sites in the Dairy Creek West loop are sunny with a few that have large tree shade coverage. Loop roads and sites are gravel with main roads being paved. Cell phone / Air card coverage is adequate. This park is located on the “Banks-Vernonia State Trail” for those who enjoy hiking. Being this park is new and still has a few items that need to be completed we only gave this park a (8), once it is fully completed and the plants etc. get a chance to mature it will definitely be a 10. We camped at L.L. Stub Stewart Memorial State Park in a Motorhome.
