Used the park as a 'landing spot' so we could travel around and see family, which worked well for us. The lot reserved for us in the B lot had too many low hanging branches, so we were moved to the A lot...just got leveled and the camp ranger told us they had someone else coming into that spot and wanted us to move back down to the B lot, but in a spot we could fit in. That worked out well, but moving around was a bit of a pain. They did give us a bundle of firewood for our trouble. With the trails/roads still being closed due to the previous fire made using the park for hiking, etc impossible. As stated in other posts, the train track is right below the park and is used pretty heavily. We camped at Ainsworth State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

A beautiful state park situated right on the Columbia Gorge. Unfortunately, a big fire last fall has closed down most of the hikes in the area. Not being from the area, we weren't aware of the fire until we were emailed special instructions a few weeks out about how to access the campground. Had we been notified when the fire occurred, we may have changed stayed elsewhere. Regardless, the campground was untouched by the fire and is still lush with trees and undergrowth. When we pulled up to our site, we found someone in it. The ranger on duty took care of it immediately, and we only had to wait about 15 minutes to get into our site. Our site wasn't very level, but we managed with our blocks. Quiet park, and good location once the major attractions open back up again. We camped at Ainsworth State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

The best part of this park is that it is close to Multnomah Falls and other beautiful attractions along the US 30 Historic Hwy and view of the Columbia River are really great. The drawback is that it is old (built around 1941), and the roads are very narrow and back in spaces tight, pull thru's o.k. Also too many rocks along the spaces makes for very tight turning and hard to navigate backing in. Restrooms clean and staff very friendly. We camped at Ainsworth State Park in a Travel Trailer.

Small State Park with full hook ups. No Wi-Fi and poor Verizon wireless connection. 5 OTA channels but no news channel. Train nearby that runs 24/7 about every hour. Difficult to maneuver through the park with our 30' fifth wheel. We camped at Ainsworth State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

We have a 38' 5th wheel and while there were a lot of big (bigger) rigs in the park, it was not easy getting in or out; getting in to our pull-through site or leveling. Roads were tight, trees hung low and you need to be careful or you will side-swipe something. Roads were paved or asphalt as was our site. Full hook ups were convenient Once in, it was a good place to stay in the Columbia River Gorge area on scenic Highway 30. We would probably stay here again as it is a good value at $29 but I had doubts as to whether I was going to get our unit in and around. We did so all ended well. We camped at Ainsworth State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

For us it was OK for an overnight stop while passing through the area but might opt for other parks in the area if staying longer. It's not that the campground was bad, just that the park is very forested which kept if damp and a bit dark. We'd prefer a bit brighter. The information board near the bathroom warns of poison oak within the forest so be careful walking around. We had no issues maneuvering through park but roads seemed narrow with close tree branches thus park seems more suited for smaller rigs and camper trailers. Baths were worn but clean. Our site was level enough that we did not have to add any leveling blocks. Trains come through at night so you hear them rumble by but we never heard and whistles that a previous reviewer mentioned. We camped at Ainsworth State Park in a Motorhome.

Great place to camp. Camp area was in the Pacific Northwest Rain forest and was stunning. The only downside was the campsites are not level (be sure to pack leveling blocks) and railroad tracks nearby (trains came through a lot and blew their horns on several occasions, but did not really bother us). We will be coming back to this campground. We camped at Ainsworth State Park in a Travel Trailer.

Tips for other Campers:

Close to Multnomah Falls, along with many other beautiful waterfalls, trails and bike paths. Close to the Columbia River for fishing. 25 miles outside of Portland, so it is close enough to the city if you need something from Camping World or just go to the Zoo or other touristy things.

Rate reflects Oregon's respect for the military. Park is in the woods. Had to use leveling blocks to get level, but not that bad. All utilities worked as expected. Lots of space between sites. Picnic table & fire ring at site. Great location with lots of trees, and just down the road from all the main waterfalls. Would stay here again. We camped at Ainsworth State Park in a Motorhome.

Nice park, shady fairly flat site. A bit on the noisy side with the trains going by all day and night and the highway right there. The highway noise is constant so it is more like white noise. Park is very convenient for hiking and seeing the waterfalls, you can hike right from camp. We camped at Ainsworth State Park in a Travel Trailer.

This was a great find for us. The CRG is right there and we could drive to everything.

Asphalt pull-through/pull-around site that was not very level. We had power, sewer, and water. Very shady area, which we liked.

We reserved online, arrived, pulled to our site. Never spoke to a single person. We came back after driving to a close attraction to a rear view mirror hanger on our picnic table. I've never been to a place like that. We camped at Ainsworth State Park in a Travel Trailer.

We arrived early on a Sunday figuring that with no reservations accepted this would be the best course of action. That worked out well as people were just pulling out. We were able to get a pull through site with plenty of room to deploy the slides on both sides. There are a number of low branches to navigate around and walking the loop first would be a good idea to find the best vacant and most level site. Overall a great location to camp while visiting the many local sites. We camped at Ainsworth State Park in a Motorhome.

$24 per night (all sites are first come, first served which will be changing to the use of the reservation system in March 2015) was for a slightly un-level asphalt pad site with full hookups, picnic table, and fire ring. Most sites have shade at some point during the day while others are in full shade—at least during the summer. This campground is located 35 miles E of downtown Portland and is out in a country-like setting but near to shopping/dining. This is bicycle country so there are many miles of trails for riding/ walking/hiking. This campground is located adjacent to the Historic Columbia River Highway, I-84, and railroad tracks but is surprisingly quiet as the train doesn’t blow its whistle because there are no crossings nearby. The traffic noise from I-84 is like white noise as trucks don’t use their compression brakes and traffic flows at a steady pace. AT&T cell service was two bars LTE. Our Millenicom Jetpack was getting two bars of 4G LTE which was great for Internet access. There was plenty of over-the-air TV. We camped at Ainsworth State Park in a Motorhome.
