Lovely rustic KOA. Trees abound, gravel dirt sites were level and the hookups were good. The location was very close to the Dam and fish locks, short drive to Mt. Hood, and about 30 minutes from Portland. Berries everywhere for the kids to pick. The 9 year olds enjoyed the bike riding and the playground. The park is located adjacent to a very busy train track, and there is a crossing nearby, so the horn sounds. The kids thought this was neet, others may find it disturbing. We would return to this KOA when visiting Portland. We camped at Cascade Locks / Portland East KOA in a Motorhome.

Because we seldom stay at KOAs, so I can only say that this one is on par with those we have stayed at (stayed here due to its location in the Columbia River Gorge). Family oriented, rustic, with the usual mix of Kabins, tents and one-nighters. Our level site was adjacent to the office/amenities complex (pool, laundry, showers, etc.) and was more than 80 feet long, where we were entertained by the antics of the many children at play! Yes, there is train noise, but we were not bothered by it. We camped at Cascade Locks / Portland East KOA in a motorhome. We camped at Cascade Locks / Portland East KOA in a Motorhome.

Good site but people on one side were so close their firepit and table were right next to our hookups and slides - we got lots of smoke. But trains are constant and very loud. We asked what the hot tub temp is kept and told 104; this is perfect. We go on a hike, come back and change and head to the hot tub. It did not appear clean but we chose to use it anyhow - temp could not have be even 80. wife is a lifelong swimmer and swimming instructor (in the past)....she knows temps! Went to the office and told them and they just shrugged their shoulders. We camped at Cascade Locks / Portland East KOA in a Fifth Wheel.

Nice shady level sites. Tight turns, glad I wasn't larger. Train noise but we're used to it so didn't bother us. Enjoyed the seeing of children. Most parks we stay in are pretty childless. Pancake breakfast on Saturday was a treat. Friendly staff who really worked with us when we went in to book a later stay for a week. Park was full both days we were there. We camped at Cascade Locks / Portland East KOA in a Travel Trailer.

Lots to see and do in the area. We went to Mt. Saint Helens and Bridal Veil Falls. Multnomah Falls was packed with no parking. Those are only a few of the things to do.

We were assigned site 47 upon checking in. We drove to site with park host. Site was long and wide-good for pull through site. Then we discovered it was only a 30 amp site even though our confirmation said 50. I had to walk back to office and after an hour of waiting in the office they moved us to 46. Due to amount of pine trees there was no way to connect to our Dish tv service. Trees were nice though for the shade. It kept the RV cool.

This site is about as close as you can get to the railroad tracks. The trains blow their horn at precisely the KOA location. They run through starting at 5am, 5:30am, 6am then start up around 5pm, 5:30 pm, 6pm. Then again around 2am and 2:30am. I don't know about the rest of the day because we were out.

The trash situation is the worst I've ever experienced. They only have one trash area for the entire park which is right at the park office-entrance. Smelly, full of gnats and bugs, unorganized, regular old smelly trash cans for the recycle, which people were dumping their regular trash because the landfill bins were spilling over. It is a total mess and they should be written up by the health department.

We staid 3 nights. It's a shame this place is so bad because the area is absolutely stunning with natural beauty and endless activities. Sites and roads in park are mostly dirt. There seem to be quite a few full-timers there too. We camped at Cascade Locks / Portland East KOA in a Motorhome.

The Columbia Gorge is beautiful and worth a stay despite the train noise which is impossible to get away from. At least the KOA is far enough from the interstate so that continual traffic noise is not a problem. Most KOA's we have stayed in are nicer than this location. We were assigned a spot directly across from the pool which was noisy because of malfunctioning equipment. Staff said that would turn the pump off at 10 pm, but did not. Sight was not level. Sites were very close together and not inviting. We saw better sites that were empty as we walked around so we are puzzled that we were assigned this spot. But, it was rainy, and we didn't want to move for just one night stay. Restrooms need updating, and an air ventilating system. We did like the overall feel of the park, as it was more campground than a typical RV park. We camped at Cascade Locks / Portland East KOA in a Travel Trailer.

Tips for other Campers:

Close to the marina (but not walking distance) and we found a good brew pub there. Beautiful views of the river from the Marina area. Actually, we saw a small RV park/campground in the Marina area, and we will try to stay there next time in the area. Access is only good for car camping and small RV's/trailers because of the RR underpass which is only access.

The campground was nice and woodsy. The trains were so loud when they blew their whistle (several times for each one) that my ears hurt. The big problem was with quiet hours. Our neighbors talked and giggled to after 1am. Asking them to stop didn't work. We lodged a complaint at the office and they said it would be taken care of. The next night they were worse. The only reason we didn't leave was because they checked out. No one ever drove around to check at night. We camped at Cascade Locks / Portland East KOA in a Tent Trailer.

A nice park in the woods, but when it rains, it is really muddy. Lots to do. Location is great, between the historic Columbia River Highway with it's falls, the Bonneville Lock and Dam, and Fish Hatchery, and The Dalles to the east. Staff were very helpful. Most roads are paved, but sites are gravel and grass. We camped at Cascade Locks / Portland East KOA in a Fifth Wheel.

The park was very shady. The spaces were asphalt; however, there were a lot of pine needles in the dirt space outside the trailer by the table. The location is great to see the falls and the locks on the Columbia River. The staff were very helpful and the pancakes were delicious. Only problem was the trains. Very frequent and loud! We camped at Cascade Locks / Portland East KOA in a Fifth Wheel.

Tips for other Campers:

We were lucky enough to see a barge go through the locks. It was a great experience. All the falls were something to see and as you can guess, the traffic was horrific. Thankfully, we weren't pulling a trailer or in a motor home. There is no way you could get around on the narrow roads by the falls pulling anything. A dually pickup had trouble getting over the small bridges.

Woodsy, beautiful park. As others have stated, rr runs beside park and large trains rumble by day and night blowing whistles. Was awaken 5 times during the night, but the staff had informed me when I called that this would happen. Completely up front about it. Laundry had 6 washers and 6 dryers and was very clean. Site was asphalt and fairly level. Park with the exception of the trains was quiet. Would stay here again, but would try to get a site much closer to the road and away from the tracks. We camped at Cascade Locks / Portland East KOA in a Fifth Wheel.

Initial perception from a Google Earth picture and when you first arrive is of a peaceful family park with lots of trees and close to nature. There are lots of fir and maple trees and it is family friendly BUT it butts right up to an AMTRAC RR with trains passing every 30-45 minutes, Throughout the day and night, all of them have to blow their horns or whistles for the nearby RR crossing. Dumpsters were overflowing for the 2 days we were there. When dumping tanks just prior to departure the sewer backed up from the parks end and started to bubble and seep onto the ground. After reporting the problem we moved to the transit dump site which also bubbled over unless you dumped very slowly. WiFi reception good, cable TV reception poor. All in all not a great stay. We will avoid this park in the future. We camped at Cascade Locks / Portland East KOA in a Motorhome.

Check-in was easy for 1 night (no stickers/tags for vehicle or rv. Park was clean in appearance except row of dumpsters that were packed and overflowing. We stayed on Wednesday night so maybe garbage pickup was going to be Thursday or Friday. Staff in office very friendly. Small pool behind office looked clean and young kids were enjoying it. Park was fairly crowded but easy to maneuver 38ft motorhome pulling a jeep. We had full hookups. Cable included. Most channels were very snowy. Later in evening, a few channels appeared to clear up. Satellite TV impossible due to lots of tall trees. Frequent train whistle but no problem since our windows were closed and a/c running. No security guard monitoring park so anyone could drive in. Our site was fairly level on dirt ground. We had back-in site but I did notice quite a few drive-thru sites. On site store with necessities and souvenirs in the office. AT&T cell worked good. WiFi was slow. We would stay again for short stay only since satellite impossible. Very woodsy feeling type park. Didn't notice many live-ins. We camped at Cascade Locks / Portland East KOA in a Motorhome.
