If you like camping in the dark woods, this is a good place. County campground with paved interior roads and paved level sites in the trees. Narrow interior roads. Don't recommend long or tall rigs. Very difficult to get into narrow sites with narrow one way roads. Each site separated by tall hedges or forest. No sewer at sites. Both water with 30 amp and dry sites available. Most sites back into forest for camping experience. Very few sites can get satellite signal. Good cell service and OTA. Playground but no rec room and no store of pool or activities. Must drive to beach. Narrow and twisty state roads to get to area from the south. Nice place to camping for a few days, but not so good for RVing. We camped at Bastendorff Beach County Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Mushy from recent downpour. Sat didn't work, but saw neighbors with sat set up. Much more like camping than rving. Excellent beach access to dog friendly beach. 4g in campsite. Will stay again. We camped at Bastendorff Beach County Park in a Motorhome.

Overall Rating:

The actual rate was $20.36 winter rates. The reservation system is off line during the winter except for cabins. This is another you pay for what you get park. The bathrooms and showers were clean. However the showers have some supply issues. I checked 2 different shower rooms and the both had the same problem. Each shower room has 2 showers. One shower has pretty good pressure and the push button stays on about 40 seconds. The other shower has dribble and you have to push the button about every 15 seconds. Most of the loops are in trees with marginal drainage (it rained a lot) with paved pads and some are pretty flat others not so much. Loop D is the loop of choice. It is out of the trees and most of the sites are out in the open the down side is they are not very private. The roads are rough pavement. Verizion MiFi worked fine. Be sure and lock up you cars, RV's doors and compartments. There were at least 3 thefts out of vehicles that were left open when we stayed there. If we're back in the area we'd probably stay here again, reluctantly. We camped at Bastendorff Beach County Park in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

Close to Cape Arago, Sunset Beach, and Charleston. Cape Arago is a great wave watching place when the big ones are rolling in.

Lots of potholes as you enter and on internal roads. Trash overflowing from bins. Beach is at least a 1/4 mile from closest site. Most sites overgrown and dark...pass up this place. We camped at Bastendorff Beach County Park in a Travel Trailer.

Nice private sites. No sewer but a dump station. Close to Charleston. Don't look for anybody at the "guard shack" at the entrance. Hasn't been anybody there for years. We made reservations ahead of time on line, but when we arrived I couldn't figure out how to check in. Finally found the park host site but nobody there either, so I just went to my site and hooked up. Nobody ever came by to check with us. We camped at Bastendorff Beach County Park in a Fifth Wheel.

This is a well kept county park on the beach near Charleston. Unfortunately, you can't really see the ocean from any of the sites, but it is visible if you walk down to the day use area. Sites here are on the short side and are very narrow. In some cases, it would be hard to put out your slides if you had them on both sides of your unit. On the other hand, the plant growth between sites does give you some privacy. All sites have a fire ring and a picnic table. This is a reservations only park, but if you come in looking for a site, you can reserve one on the spot if there is one available. Either the park ranger or the resident caretaker can help you with that. There are also 3 hosts in the park. They are good about giving advice and answering questions. We camped at Bastendorff Beach County Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Beautiful county park with water and electric, (dump station on site). Dog friendly beach access is just a short two block drive or walk. Lots of shade from large trees and each site is surrounded by foliage which give some privacy. Don't miss going into the fishing town of Charleston for fresh and fresh canned seafood. We camped at Bastendorff Beach County Park in a Motorhome.

This is a country operated park. It has lots of camping, both RV and tent. It is generally pretty quiet unless the foghorns become active. We never saw a host or employee, so I cannot comment on the staffing. The bathrooms and showers are a disgrace. The showers haven't been maintained or cleaned in a very long time. The baths are slightly better, although the pressure from so many campers is great and the cleanliness is spotty. I understand the baths in the group sites are better, but they are far from most of the campers. We camped at Bastendorff Beach County Park in a Travel Trailer.

Very nice park with nice, welcoming hosts who were concerned about our comfort. Vegetation between sites for privacy. Several different areas in the park to choose from. Nice playground area with view of the ocean. The price is very good (we had water and electricity). The showers/bathrooms are a little run-down, but the water temp is stable. The beach is very nice. The only down-side for us is that you can't make reservations - it's first come, first served. We camped at Bastendorff Beach County Park in a Truck Camper.

Great park and reasonably priced. Access roads are a little narrow. Good variety of site sizes. Great view of the ocean from the day use area. No access to beach from the park, but it's an easy 1/2 mile walk from the gate. Camp hosts very helpful. We camped at Bastendorff Beach County Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Overall Rating:

Very nice park in a super location - beach. We only saw one pull-thru site, so plan on backing in. Lots of good sized sites. One caution about this park is getting to it from US101. From the south, our navigator took us on a very narrow and winding road called "Seven Devils". All paved, but a bit tight for a big rig. Google maps said to take Newmark off of US101. VERY steep hill going west from US101 on Newmark. Signs there limiting the use of the road to less than 15000 GVW. The best thing is to call the county on the number listed and get their directions. We camped at Bastendorff Beach County Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Very nice county RV park and beach area. A wide variety of sites all up the hill from the beach - some very small and some very large. First come first serve only, except for groups in a special area which can make reservations. Park sits high off the beach with a great view of the beach from their main day use parking area. No Wi-Fi but good cell phone coverage with major carriers. My type of place - lots of grass, room to roam, things to do and peaceful. We camped at Bastendorff Beach County Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Overall Rating:

Spent two full days at this park. We stayed at the "group" camping area at the top of the hill. The first night we were totally alone then another fifth wheel showed up for the last two nights. Sites are very level. The approach is asphalt and the site is concrete. The bathrooms in the group are were closed this time of year because of previous vandalism. All the other bathrooms were open. There are also two dump stations on site since there are no sewer hookups there. There is a nice playground and beach access from the park. Nearby is the town of Charleston where you can probably imagine that the send people from the witness protection program to disappear. There are a lot of nice restaurants on the waterfront. If you are looking for something good but inexpensive, go to the "Sea Basket." We had fish and chips there and it was pretty good. There was a killer rain/wind storm the last night we were there and the trailer shook a bit. Regardless, it was a great place and very quiet. I would give it a ten but there was no Wi-Fi or sewer hookups. We camped at Bastendorff Beach County Park in a Travel Trailer.

Overall Rating:

Since it was after October 1, the rate had dropped to $15. We stayed in the open group camping area at the top of the hill. It was great for satellite reception but there was a strong storm one night and the wind really blew up there. The bathroom/showers in the group camping area were modern, spotless, large, and private. There is now a very strong Verizon Extended Network signal in the park. We camped at Bastendorff Beach County Park in a Motorhome.
