We love it here - quiet, clean and beautiful scenery. The park is kept in pristine condition by a group of volunteers and the rangers. The road into this campground is along a cliff skirting the river at the bottom of a gorge and a narrow one lane bridge across the river. It is accessible for large rigs - just requires care and slow travel. Dog area in campground is a very nice large grass fenced area. We camped at Cove Palisades State Park (Deschutes Campground) in a Travel Trailer.

Tips for other Campers:

Awesome canyon and huge lake with marina and houseboats for rent on Billy Chinook lake with fishing and boating and launch ramps right near the campground. Madras is about 10 miles away for groceries at a Safeway and gas.

Loops A and C include almost entirely full hookup sites, which is a bargain for the price. The best and worst things about this campground is the drive in. It is 4 miles down the canyon on a road with no guard rails and over a bridge, however, the view as you go down into the canyon and view the reservoir is incredible! However, the distance and steep drive means you cannot run out to a store if you forget something. Campground roads are good, and sites are paved, but when it is crowded, you might have trouble with a very large rig, especially with a toad. Also, the camping pads are too narrow to the point where you step out onto dirt instead of asphalt--another two feet in width would have kept you out of the dirt. Another negative is that the campground is nowhere near the reservoir, so you really need to drive and have a boat or something for swimming. I did not see a beach, although they may have one I did not find. Also, no cell service or data through Verizon available and few spots will allow satellite signals. Price includes $8 reservation fee split between two nights. We camped at Cove Palisades State Park (Deschutes Campground) in a Motorhome.

This is one of our favorite places to come. We've stayed in both A and C loop and had a terrific time! The staff is super friendly and the spaces are perfect for our size travel trailer. We do not have a boat but we rented at Cove Palisades Resort & Marina - Very affordable and perfect for getting out into deeper water for fishing. Everyone is super awesome and friendly showing how to use the boat features, goes over safety, provides life jackets, etc... The facilities are really clean and we love the little mini 'store' at the entrance gate. We've often forgot something - and they have had ice cream which is awesome on the hot summer days! We camped at Cove Palisades State Park (Deschutes Campground) in a Travel Trailer.

Tips for other Campers:

Go to Cove Palisades Resort / Marina! They have water bumper boats for kids to play, Kayak rentals and a plethora of boats too! They have a really nice store with pretty much anything you need and terrific fishing advice! There is also the Crooked River day park with a cordoned swim area. * * *Always be safe, even in a lake and have proper AED / life vests for all swimmers! ***

We take our floaties out there and hang out in the sun but keep cool in the water! :)

Beautiful park in the middle of the desert. The C loop has terraced RV spaces. The bathrooms were the cleanest I have ever seen at an Oregon State campground. (And they are all very good!)

The Deschutes campground has full hookups (some others do not), which was nice for a 3-day stay. If you're into fishing, a fish-cleaning house is available on site. Very nice campground, I'd visit again! We camped at Cove Palisades State Park (Deschutes Campground) in a Travel Trailer.

Tips for other Campers:

Cove Palisades State Park is a paradise for boaters. We didn't have boat, and are new to fishing and were hoping to catch a fish or two from the shore. Unfortunately, we didn't catch anything after two separate attempts. The kids still had great time though! If I had a boat, I'd definitely make this an annual trip. There are 72 miles of shoreline at Lake Billy Chinook. It was so large that it never felt crowded anywhere on the lake or on the beaches / shore.

We stayed in Site C-12, a pull thru. If we come back this way we'd probably select a different site, one that has more space around it. C-12 is practically at a block wall. The picnic table and fire pit are elevated next to it. One disappointment was that we couldn't have a campfire or cook with charcoal due to a burn ban. But it was understandable because they had just had a fire the week before in their Crooked River Campground. The other disappointment was that it's eight miles in to get to the park. But then how else would you get down into the canyon?? We camped at Cove Palisades State Park (Deschutes Campground) in a Fifth Wheel.

State park in Oregon high desert on reservoir Lake Billy Chinook. Lots of families and fisher people. Not much else. If you want to fish and drag a boat it would be good for you. Road winds down to lake and CG. Several around lake with poor signage. If you like dry sand with a green tinge lake with nothing else to do but fish, this place is for you. We camped at Cove Palisades State Park (Deschutes Campground) in a Motorhome.
