I arrived here without a reservation because I was unable to get into the RV park across the street. Based on the glowing postings previously, I was expecting something a lot better, but I was tired and it was getting late, so I did not want to continue driving, and these two parks were the only ones within 20 miles. First, I could not find the owner and had to drive around for a while. Also, sites were gravel and uneven and this place looks like it has seen better days. In addition, there are only a handful of electric sites and none were satellite-friendly. Also, I had to fill up my water tank at a central fill station that had a dirty-looking hose, so I went around and got my own hose because I did not want to stick that one into my water fill opening. Because the ground was muddy, I held it off the muddy ground while I put enough water in my tank for one night. The place was nearly empty, other than a couple of what looked like permanent residents and one tenter. Anyway, I got parked, went inside my rig, and closed all my drapes for the night. It was quiet, which was good, but I was glad to get out of there in the morning. Verizon signal was good. Note that the owner does not take credit cards--cash and check only. We camped at South Fork RV park in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

I drove from north along very scenic 270 and 19, and last part of drive was through a gorgeous canyon. Don't miss John Day Fossil Beds National Monument and the Thomas Condon Paleonyology Visitor Center. Lots of really strange mammals from after the time of the dinosaurs are on display--from ancient horses and horned mice to rhinos and other large animals, plus a lot of plant and tree fossils.

Overall Rating:

Park has 2 back-ins (sites 5 and 6) and one pull-through (site 10) with 30 Amp electric service. No water or sewer at the sites. There is a water tap and a dump station. There is no TV service and no ATT phone service. But best of all, we were able to use the park's wifi from site 6. The shower/bathroom was clean and roomy. Sites 5 and 6 fronted right on the river and was very quiet. There was a picnic table. The owner is very informative and will provide good directions and details. We camped at South Fork RV park in a Motorhome.

Electric only or dry camping. Host did everything he could to accommodate us. Most sites shaded. Boarders on a small river. We camped at South Fork RV park in a Travel Trailer.

Hard to find right next to the city park, but worth it. Sites are right on the south fork of the John Day river. Spaces are located in a park like setting. The owner greets you at the door if it is early in the morning. The place felt like home. Owner and his son work on the place all day long, it is a beautiful, rural, small town RV park. Plenty of space for tents right next to your RV. Not like your average city McRVpark. WiFi is up by the office/church. The owner will tell you about the history of the place and offer you an otterpop! He has created a great place. Don't forget to ask him for the "arizona special" 3 days for $50. We camped at South Fork RV park in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

Cafe in town has the best pies in the state, hands down. Made in house. Fresh cut fries are mouth watering and no comparison to the big city burger stands. Lots of stuff to see in the area, ask the park owner and make a list!!
