This time of year only the F and G Sections were open, which are full hook-ups, and it is not crowded at all. The lake was very low but filling for the summer months, however, fishing was not good at all. We've stayed here before and fishing is generally good either from the bank or in a boat. Mostly trout and for those with a boat, kokanee fishing at times can be very good. No pull through sites, and if you have a Motor Coach, Large Fifth Wheel, or long trailer none of the sites in A-B Section will be suitable. All sites are back-in in all sections with paved sites, picnic table and fire pit. For most sites, they are paved and level. However, there are also sites with steep drops and then they level out. The web site does have some pictures of the selected sites but this doesn't always show the ramps well. H Section is water and electric only. There are gray water dumps scattered around within H Section so with a bucket you can dump gray water if necessary, however there is NO sewer dump within the park. Fishermans Bend Campground near Mill City has a dump station for free just outside their campground. During the summer months this park is VERY busy and lots of water skiing, jet skies and fishing boats. Some boats can be very loud. Sheriff Marine Patrols are on the lake and do a good job of keeping things safe. There are two local marinas and boats are available to rent for fishing as well as pontoon boats for families. There are boat slips available at the campground for rent and limited boat trailer parking at the two boat ramps. We camped at Detroit Lake State Park in a Travel Trailer.

Tips for other Campers:

The town of Detroit has a few little restaurants, a couple of small stores with limited supplies. Not a lot to do in town as far a shopping or sight seeing. Kaine's Marina has fuel as well as boating and fishing supplies, but limited. Breitenbush Hot Springs is located about 30 miles up stream from the town of Detroit. Check their website for information and directions.

Another incredible Oregon State park. Level site, paved, table, firepit and private. Off season but still busy. A bit off the beaten path and local towns are OK but minimal amenities. Would stay again. We camped at Detroit Lake State Park in a Motorhome.

For us it's a nice campground to spend a couple of nights only 2 hours from the Portland metro area. Though not empty, it was quiet when we visited in the middle of September in the middle of the week. It's a long narrow park under pine trees along the north shore of Detroit Lake. We stayed in the F loop along the shore. These are close spaces that start with a steep decline then level out as you back into them. The lake level was low, but the lake was still scenic. In addition to walking on the extra shoreline, there are a few trails around some of the campground loops. Some sites back against the highway which seems like it could be noisy. We didn't notice any highway noise where we were. Considering privacy or views we'd suggest these: F16, F35, G24, G43, H36, H47, H60. We camped at Detroit Lake State Park in a Motorhome.

The site we stayed in was full hook up, 30 amp. Loved this campground. We were here off season so, though almost full, it was very quiet. Lots of trees and shade and a quick walk to the lake. Site was very un-level but worth it. We would definitely stay here again!! We camped at Detroit Lake State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Overall Rating:

This section of the park is water and electric. Sites are paved but not level so bring necessary leveling equipment. In fact, some sites while paved are very uneven with some buckling of the pavement.

The campground has lots of trees and foliage which provides for shade. If you are camped next to Highway 22 you can get a lot of road noise, if you are camped near the lake you can get a lot of boat noise. Overall it's not bad, after all you are camping outdoors.

Fishing by boat or from the bank is generally good, power bait works well. There is a fishing dock provided however, lake must be at least 3/4 full.

The Army Corps of Engineers use this lake for water and flood control, so they start to drain it in late September for the fall rains.

Detroit is a nice state campground and open year round, but they limit some loops during the winter months. We camped at Detroit Lake State Park in a Travel Trailer.

We stayed at Detroit Lake in mid-May; before the summer craziness, and it was beautiful and quiet. Only a few fishing boats on the lake which was full! Dogwoods and rhododendrons were blooming in the campground and the geese were leading their babies along the shoreline. We had a full hookup site in G loop close to the lake. It had 30 amp service. The water/electric sites in H loop are only 20 amp. Not a lot to do if you don't have a boat but a nice area for a short stay. We camped at Detroit Lake State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Overall Rating:

One of Oregon's more popular state parks, with hundreds of narrow, paved, not-quite-level sites -- some of which can accommodate a big rig -- crammed in to a small strip of land between the highway and the lake. Always noisy -- this is a play area for powered watercraft -- and nearly always full: reservations are strongly recommended. Electrical hookups are 15 amp only (and installed upside down!) so you won't be able to run your A/C. Rules enforcement is rather anal-retentive. Good park if you're coming to play or party. Not for quiet contemplation. We camped at Detroit Lake State Park in a Motorhome.

Great park. 50 amp would have earned it a 10. Our site had a view of the launch ramp. As much fun to watch as the dump station and smells better. Lots of shade. Campground volunteers are friendly. Check in staff was challenged. Friends came in a night early, their reserved campsite was vacant, check in people would not let them pay the extra night, had to come back the next day to check in to the same site again. Seems trying to figure that out was beyond the clerk. Will stay again. We camped at Detroit Lake State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

We camped here during the Labor Day weekend and had a great time. The park was very full but the rangers made sure the rules were enforced. For example the people next to us had too many cars parked at their site and the rangers made them move one car. It was quiet at night. We were in Loop C and could not hear any road noise but some of the loops backed right to the busy Hwy 22. Our site was really large and felt private. We really enjoyed having views of the lake and being close to the huge playground. The roads were paved so the kids could ride their bikes. We would come back here again. We camped at Detroit Lake State Park in a Motorhome.

This is a very busy campground during the summer. You will need to have reservations or get there very early. We were here after Labor Day and it had turned into a first come first served campground until next Memorial Day. It was very quiet and we really enjoyed ourselves. We have stayed here in the summer before and found it to be too busy, plus it was smoky and there was quite a bit of road noise. There are numerous activities that the park hosts each day. There's swimming, fishing, boating and it's a huge lake. 106 full hookup, 72 electrical, 133 tent (maximum site 60 feet), 82 boat slips. All of the sites are roomy and some are rather private. The park has a small gift shop/ice available there. In the town of Detroit which is about a mile away, there are restaurants, fishing tackle stores, a grocery store, gift shops and a post office. We would stay here again during the off season. We camped at Detroit Lake State Park in a Motorhome.
