Oregon State Parks are consistently above average and this heavily used park is no exception. We made reservations for the Labor Day weekend and are glad we did since the full hookup loop was full. Our paved pull-thru site was long and fairly level and had a table and fire ring. A fair amount of OTA TV channels and a few holes in the trees for portable satellite. Verizon cell/data were strong. Easy access to I-5 but there was little road noise. We camped at Valley of the Rogue State Park in a Motorhome.

Overall Rating:

Very nice park, exceptional value. Paved roads and sites; area was clean, well kept, and residents were friendly and quiet during our stay. Very good website for reservations (includes by site dimensions and a picture). There is an $8 charge to reserve a site and while it might not be economical for a one night stay, it does guarantee your site. We reserved our site for two days but there were multiple space available options during our stay. It was very dry, so most grass around sites was brown with worn spots. Our site was sloped from front to rear, but we achieved level without issue. Most sites will need some minor leveling adjustments, but none are severe. Trees will affect satellite reception, but we got a clear shot from our site. Lots of nice hiking trails with river views. There is some highway noise but less than I anticipated. We camped at Valley of the Rogue State Park in a Motorhome.

Major retail stores are 13 miles away in Grants Pass. We had a very nice dinner at Wild River Brewing and Pizza Company.

Overall Rating:

We were planning to boondock in this area, but since the temperatures were approaching 100F, we decided we had better find a place with electric hookups. As a result, we made reservations via the online system just before we arrived, and were happy to find sites available, even though we needed them on the weekend. The sites were good - there are many pull thrus and most of them have long enough straight areas to allow big motorhomes like ours to actually pull thru. The electric and water services were reliable. Verizon service was good; AT&T was marginal; both were good with cellular booster. The park is used by a lot of folks who are relatively local - it appeared to be a good park for those with children - there were activities for kids to do. The only reason I did not give the park 10* was due to the reservation system. As mentioned above, we had to book 2 different sites for our 2 night planned stay. The online reservation system (Reserve America) requires an $8 fee per reservation, and since we could not book 2 nights in the same site, we had to not only move during our stay (understandable because we were late booking), but we also had to pay a total of $16 to book the two one-night stays. Other public campground booking services (e.g. national parks in Canada) will allow users to book a stay "night-by-night" and combine multiple nights in the same park into a single booking fee. On a positive note, we decided to stay an additional night, and the folks at the gatehouse were able to "extend" our stay (even though we again had to change sites) and avoid the additional reservation fee. I think if you are willing to risk a site being unavailable, and just show up, you will not need to pay the additional $8. The site fees were $31 for FHU, $28 for electric+water. The rate that I listed ($36) was the average for our 3 night stay (2 FHU, 1 E+W, reservation fees). We camped at Valley of the Rogue State Park in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

We did not know this when we came, but if it is *hot* in the central valley (where I-5 runs through Oregon), it is probably cool/cold on the coast. We may have tried heading to the coast for boondocking weather if we had known this! We had come to this area to get some suspension work done at Henderson's Line-Up in Grants Pass. If you have any issues with handling or suspension, brakes, etc., we *highly* recommend Henderson's!

Overall Rating:

This is a forested state park. It is located along highway 5, so there is going to be some noise, but it is not disruptive, even when sitting outside. The highway area is flat so there is very minimal noise from trucks either accelerating or slowing down. The noise didn't bother us at all. This park is clean and well maintained. We stayed in D loop about midway between the river and the highway. Spaces are have easy entry and exit. Utilities are well maintained throughout the park and Rangers and Hosts are diligent in park management. They are also very helpful. We chose this park because we wanted to be out of an RV park and into a more natural environment and were not disappointed. The park was near full and we had no issues with noise or traffic. We camped at Valley of the Rogue State Park in a Travel Trailer.

Tips for other Campers:

We mostly hiked within the park. Did a jet boat tour along the Rogue (in Grants Pass). The boat tour was good, but due to the low water the excitement level was moderate. We did see a number of Bald Eagles and other birds. We did the 5 1/2 hour tour and felt it was worth the money. Visited both Gold Hill and Rogue River cities. Small but had some nice spots to wander about. We have a dog and she was welcomed in the park. We stayed here in a 23' travel trailer.

Overall Rating:

This is a scenic park with big trees and grass. It's very convenient to I-5. In fact, there's a nice rest stop here. It's also along the Rogue River. We stayed one night in February while traveling north on I-5. Loops and sites are paved. They're reasonably well spaced, but you will see your neighbors. We stayed in the D loop. D12 going up to D22 are on the river side. This is the bottom half of the loop. Some of these will give you a river view. D22 where we stayed didn't have an actual view of the river. We'd stay in D22 again or D24. The upper part of the loop is closer to I-5. The E loop is a circle within the bigger D loop. It's hard to say what the actual I-5 noise would be like in nicer weather. We didn't do it this trip but want to come back in the summer and check out their trails. There's a soft surface river trail and a paved segment of the Rogue River Greenway trail. We camped at Valley of the Rogue State Park in a Motorhome.

Very nice state park right off the 5. Very clean, well run park. A couple of the loops were closed for the winter, We were on D loop pretty close to the river. Large pull thru sites get take quickly, but for $8.00 you can reserve one. No wiFi/cable or OTA, nice... Great place to stay a week or over night. We will be back! We've stayed here several times over the years. It's lovely, even though just off the freeway. Extremely treed, very big and spacious. Lovely walking trails. On the Rogue River. Ready access to Grants Pass and Ashland and wineries. We don't hear the freeway in our travel trailer. We love how chill the place is. This park is one of the nicest state parks we have ever stayed. I was very impressed with the pull through sites. Very pretty park. Good Verizon signal. No cable or OTA channels. Not sure about satellite. Our site was free because my husband is disabled Vet. We camped at Valley of the Rogue State Park in a Motorhome.

Another Oregon State park that delivers a quality product at a reasonable price. Large sites, both back-in and pull-thru are paved and most, but not all, are level. Lots of trees, green grass, and paths to walk. No cable, little OTA, and depending on the site difficult to have a clear shot to the satellites. No WiFi but good Verizon cell/data. Close to Medford and many area attractions. In any other location this park would be a 10, but the interstate noise is significant. We camped at Valley of the Rogue State Park in a Motorhome.

This is a state park that you get to by going through a rest area. It was fairly easy access in and out and provided full hook-ups at a very reasonable price. We used it as a base to visit the Redwood Forrest and Crater Lake, each about an hour and a half away. We had a pull through that was not exactly level but do-able as far as leveling is concerned. We were near the back of the first loop and did not hear any Interstate noise. I am giving it a 7 but is at least a 7.5. We would camp here again if in the area because it is a good value for $29 per night. We camped at Valley of the Rogue State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

This is an Oregon State Park, most of them are fabulous. This State Park is very noisy near the I-5 Highway and I think we would not return due to the traffic. some parts of the park are old and roads are bumpy so hard to level. The bike path and hiking path near the river are nice, but there is no access to the river, such as a beach, open area. Lots of Blackberry vines cover the banks and land area. This may be a good thing, as the river is swift and not usable for wading or swimming. Next time we will pick something quieter. We camped at Valley of the Rogue State Park in a Motorhome.

29 full hookup sites $29, 55 water & electric sites $26, 14 tent sites. Bike trails, fishing, bathhouse with showers. Site B19. This park has three miles of shaded green frontage on the scenic Rogue River. The campground has six loops. Laundry facilities in C and F loops, dump station. There are ranger interpretive programs during the summer. Each site has a picnic table and fire ring. Horseshoe pits, volleyball court, fishing, and a boat ramp. The bike trail must just have been repaved because it was excellent. Nice campground and very busy; reservations are advised. River rafting, kayaking and jet boat tours of the Rogue River and Hellgate Canyon are nearby. This is right off Interstate 5, and The Oregon Shakespeare Festival in Ashland is within driving distance. If in the area this is a nice place to camp.
