WOW, WOW, WOW. One of the most beautiful places we have been in over 40 years of camping. Beautiful grassy sites well spaced. Long, level parking pads. Beautiful fall colors and a full river make this a top 1% park. Staff was friendly and helpful, firewood and ice are on the honor system. Park borders the hiway, but was quiet after dark. Verizon voice and data were very strong. We camped at Clyde Holliday State Recreation Site in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

Visit the Kam Wah Chung & Co. Museum in John Day. Staff there was very informative. Enjoy a cup of very good coffee at The Corner Cup.

A beautiful State Park, right on the John Day River. Several hiking trails available with easy access to the park. Water and electricity at each site and our site was perfectly level.

May well be the best park on our trip. Very well maintained, beautiful park. We only stayed one night but plan to make another trip here and stay a while to explore the area. We camped at Clyde Holliday State Recreation Site in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

Very close to the highway, road noise was noticeable but not a problem for us.

We love this park, it is so relaxing. It is certainly good for overnight, but is a great hangout for numerous days. John Day, OR is just a couple of miles away and has a decent sized supermarket. Showers are individual rooms. The lady responsible for this park takes extreme pride in its condition and cleanliness, grass was in excellent shape. No sewer, but dump station. They do have designated gray water disposal stations. We just can't say enough good about the park. I'm sure it is family friendly, the spots are very wide and generous. You have excellent separation from the neighbors. The river is on the back side of the park. Things might be a little tight for really big rigs. We camped at Clyde Holliday State Recreation Site in a Travel Trailer.

Tips for other Campers:

Located close to John Day Fossil Beds (National Monument), hunting and fishing. We enjoy the rural setting.

This is everything you could wish for in a state campground: big, spacious sites with lots of privacy, esp. on the perimeter, lots of trees for shade, clean restrooms with lots of hot water. It doesn't get much better than this. We intended to stay one night and stayed for four - wish we had stayed longer & we will definitely return. We camped at Clyde Holliday State Recreation Site in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

Definitely visit John Day Fossil Beds NM, about 39 miles west, and tour the Visitor's Center. We did not make it to the Painted Hills because of the heat, but plan to do it next time as we heard it was great. Nice scenic drives in the area in the rolling ranch land & forested hills. Not much in town, but there are a couple of gas stations in John Day & in Mt. Vernon next to the park.

Park is well designed with plenty of room between sites. Lots of green grass, and trees for shade. Hiking trail to fishing pond. Day use for picnic and get together. Need to stop and judge for yourself. Lots of things to see and do, just ask the Ranger or Camp Host. We camped at Clyde Holliday State Recreation Site in a Motorhome.

This park is by far my favorite. We stayed for 2 nights and it was a real treat. The park had large grassy areas with plenty of bushes for privacy and trees for shade. The bathroom and showers were clean. We would definitely stay at the park again. We camped at Clyde Holliday State Recreation Site in a Truck Camper.

We've stayed at Clyde Holliday several times when in this part of Oregon. It's always a pleasant stay. The town of John Day where there are full services is just 6 miles away. Tent and RV sites may not be reserved, but there are two tepees that may be reserved. Sites have just electricity and water but there is a dump station. We appreciate the cottonwoods and other shade trees here when the weather is hot. We camped at Clyde Holliday State Recreation Site in a Travel Trailer.

Tips for other Campers:

The Kam Wah Chung State Heritage Site in John Day is well worth a visit. It features the original structure, dating from the late 19th century, where two Chinese immigrants ran a general store, herbal medical office, apothecary and community center for the region's Chines population. Stepping into the museum is like stepping back in time.

Could not ask for a better park. Hot showers and clean restrooms. Firewood sold along with ice. One pull through site as you enter the park. Don't show up too late because the park might be full, and if the park is full you may stay at the over flow. You need to reserve the teepees because they are always rented. We camped at Clyde Holliday State Recreation Site in a Motorhome.

Easy access off main road and right next to a beautiful stream. No Wi-Fi, but cell phone reception was reasonable for checking E-mail on cell phone. Very clean campground with well maintained bathrooms and showers. Three showers available and we never had an issue with them being full. Campground is first come first served, so arrive early in day for best chance of getting a spot. When we arrived at 1pm they were about half full, but by 6pm there were only a few small spots left. Very friendly staff and camp host was friendly and helpful. We camped at Clyde Holliday State Recreation Site in a Travel Trailer.

Returning from Glacier Park and spent a day and night in this beautiful state park. We arrived on a weekday around 3:00 PM, and not two hours later all the spots were full. Lush green setting with many trees and a great deal of space between sites. Plenty of room for a 40'+ rig with 50 amp plug-in. Reservations would certainly be a plus, as once this park fills there is little else available in this remote area. We camped at Clyde Holliday State Recreation Site in a Fifth Wheel.

What a nice, well kept quiet park. The spots that back to the highway probably weren't that quiet, but there are plenty away from the highway. There are trees & lots of nice grass. This is a great spot if you want to visit the fossil beds,& painted hills. There is a day park next to it, if you want to have running room for your kids in the daytime. We would definitely go back if in the area. We camped at Clyde Holliday State Recreation Site in a Motorhome.

Clean wooded park. North side of camping loop has noise from Hiway 26. Paved sites, ample grassy areas around sites; some sites have more privacy from bushes and trees than others. Good phone and personal wifi (Verizon) coverage. Would camp here again. We camped at Clyde Holliday State Recreation Site in a Fifth Wheel.

Located approximately five miles west of the town of John Day on US-26 / US-395 this gem of a park offers a lush oasis in the barren high desert country. The shaded sites are huge, with many offering at least 100’ of spacing from your neighbors. Road noise is not a problem due to the thick shield of vegetation separating the campground from the highway. Not surprisingly, no over the air TV is available, and because of the tree cover, obtaining a satellite signal might be difficult from many of the sites. However, a 4-bar Verizon signal is present here. I highly recommend this first come, first served facility. We camped at Clyde Holliday State Recreation Site in a Motorhome.

This is a beautiful campground nestled beneath many trees and near a river. The interior roads and RV pads are paved and the sites are grassy and surrounded by bushes that make it feel very private. The camp hosts were very friendly and helpful. This campground is close to John Day Fossil Beds National Monument which is a must see. Another must see, which is close by in John Day, is the Kam Wah Chung State Heritage Site. This was going to just be a stop over on our way to Boise and we ended up loving the park. This is a first come first serve campground. We camped at Clyde Holliday State Recreation Site in a Motorhome.

Another great Oregon state park. Small and doesn't take reservations, but large, private sites in a very quiet setting. Clean bathrooms and showers. No cable, but able to get good satellite reception. Good base camp for exploring this part of Oregon. One of my favorite places to stay, so will definitely return. We camped at Clyde Holliday State Recreation Site in a Motorhome.
