This park is like "The good, the bad, and the ugly". The good is the new owners and their staff are great people and very helpful. The bad is that it is a family oriented park and the families and kids all run roughshod throughout the whole park to the extent that they run over and around and through everyone's site with little supervision from their parents! There are so many dogs that they wake you up starting at about 6am in the morning every day. Most parks have very stringent dog barking rules but this park hasn't gotten there yet. The ugly is that in the last few years the smoke from the forest fires, mostly in August and September, has made it very difficult to go hiking because of the very bad particles that are in the smoke you are breathing! We like it here but timing is very important for when you visit. The other ugly is that pads are allowed on the grass which created huge muddy bare spots when it rains. Most parks do not allow pads to be used on the grass any more for exactly that reason, it destroys the grass and creates a mud hole. We camped at Park at the River in a Motorhome.

A very nice campground. All spaces are different, most seem to have a fair amount of space between sites, all grass sites, big trees throughout othe campground. The Wallowa River runs along the lower level of the campground. Full hookups on the upper level with fair cable TV, wifi was spotty. I suspect sites further away from the antenna location would not have adequate service. We were able to find a spot though the trees so our Dish satellite would work. We camped at Park at the River in a Travel Trailer.

Tips for other Campers:

Adjacent Lake Wallowa is beautiful and has good trout fishing (I was told). On a clear day, a trip up the tramway is well worthwhile. The town of Joseph has beautiful street displays of large bronze statues and the local foundrys are open for tours, and purchases :-).

The park is clean and well maintained. Spaces are small and close together, some seem like afterthoughts. Lots of families with kids. Two big negatives: The wifi in the park was essentially non functional. We never found an area where we could even access email. And if you are not on Verizon, there is absolutely no cell service on this end of the lake either; you have to drive into Joseph about 5 miles away. If you need to be connected to the rest of the world, this is not the place for you. (We left two days early because we needed wifi or cell access, but were charged for those days anyway.) We camped at Park at the River in a Travel Trailer.

Excellent hiking. Fly fishing was great where the river enters the lake, with parking and access at the nearby marina.

This park was wonderful. Although the sites were close, the WiFi almost non existent and neither the cell nor satellite worked this is the favorite park of our 8 month trip. The park is right by a beautiful river and the surrounding scenery is incredibly spectacular. We spent some time with the new owners and they are absolutely delightful - get to know them if you plan to stay here. They have some fascinating stories about their adventures. We camped at Park at the River in a Motorhome.

There are many things to do in the area. Joseph is a charming town and it and the surrounding area reminded us of Switzerland. Vali's is a great restaurant and the tram to the top of the mountain provides some beautiful views.

Small RV park near Wallowa Lake. It is a beautiful setting with lots of fir trees for shade and is located near the river. The staff are very helpful and friendly. The one downfall is that you have to pay for a shower at $.25 for 2.5 minutes. Not a big cost but a little inconvenient since you could only put three quarters in at a time! Wifi wasn't the best and the cell service is minimal but that is due to the area, not the RV Park. Great location as you can walk to the lake, Wallowa Lodge, the Tram and hiking trails. The town of Joseph is only about 7 miles away and if you are brave you can bike into town! We camped at Park at the River in a Motorhome.

A very pretty setting amongst huge trees and right near a swift river. The rest rooms were acceptable but nothing fancy. The sites are pretty close to each other but there is enough open space to be comfortable. Need more garbage cans, had to walk a ways to the dumpster. We camped at Park at the River in a Travel Trailer.

There are fun things to do right near the park. Wallowa Lake is very close. Six miles in to Joseph for services and things to see.

This park is in a beautiful location, close to the lake and near many tourist amenities. It is just 6 miles from Joseph, where there are many nice shops, restaurants, bars and a fun distillery. The park is kept clean and neat, but the spots are crowded pretty close together and the road is narrow and winding. We have stayed here several times in the last 12 years and have had no bad experiences. We camped at Park at the River in a Travel Trailer.

Tips for other Campers:

Vali's Alpine Restaurant (good German!) - stop in and make a reservation; Stubborn Mule (Joseph) - beer, pool, steaks; kayak/boat rentals at Wallowa Lake State Park marina; Stein Distillery (Joseph) - Bourbon, cordials, rum.

Wallowa Lake State Park is cheaper ($30) and, I think, nicer - but you have to make reservations 6 - 9 months in advance. If you can't get in to Wallow Lake SP, stay here!

We stayed here at the height of the tourist season. Lot's of families and children. Many extended family groups as well. Overall, this was a very clean park in a great location in what is referred to as Lake Wallowa Village, which is by the south end of the lake and about 6 miles south of the more arid city of Joseph. This is the kind of park where they try to cram as many RV's into a small parcel of land as possible. As such, many of the sites are very close together and the winding, paved road through the park is very, very narrow. With many of the sites too small, there were cars and trucks sticking out into the narrow road making it even harder to maneuver a rig through the park, and backing up off off of such a small road can be a challenge, especially if the site is located between two large trees (as our site was). Lots of grass and a number of mature pine trees making the park partially shaded from the summer sun. We were is site 12, which had one of the larger grass spaces, but nearly everyone in the park cut through our site to get to the bathrooms. The park might as well put a path through site 12 (it's big enough for one). The bathrooms were OK. Clean, but not ventilated very well. There were two clean showers facing each other that required 75 cents for a long shower. However, there weren't any stools or mats, etc. for the showers. Just a little hook for each shower. Cell coverage is nonexistent, but they did have free WiFi, which was decent, but slow, and nearly worthless when more people used it. The short walk to the river was nice. They had a small hut at the entrance and had nothing for sale. There was only enough room for one RV to check in. The Motel across the street was very accommodating and had useful items for sale like ice, coffee, and Huckleberry ice cream cones. There were a few dry camping sites down by the river, which were the really nice. Not sure what the advantage of this park is over the State park nearby. We camped at Park at the River in a Travel Trailer.

Tips for other Campers:

Go across the street for ice cream. Down the street for the Tram up to the summit. Eat at Vali's, but make reservations. Or eat at the Glacier Grill. The Lodge Restaurant is hit or miss with food and service, and is expensive for what you get.

We liked the park even though some sites are pretty close together. There are only 2 pull-thru's and most good sites are reserved up to a year ahead of time. Staff was friendly but dog problems are always an issue in many parks as people do not understand leash rules unless verbally told. There are only 2 washers and 2 dryers in the laundry room which is better than none at all. Quiet at night after the dogs quit barking. The area is beautiful and hiking is awesome. Will probably stay here again if in the area. We camped at Park at the River in a Motorhome.

What a terrific park - a beautiful setting, impeccably maintained, beautiful views. The staff is extremely friendly and helpful. The sites are spacious and nicely arranged along a winding road among the trees. We had a great spot overlooking the river. The Wi-Fi is blazing!! Even though they didn't have 50 amp service at our site, we still rate it excellent. We just have to be conscious of what electrical we use. Everything else makes up for that!! There are some nice restaurants and shops just outside the park, the lake and state park are a short walk away, and the tram up the mountain is across the street. We drove around the area and didn't see any other parks we would have liked better - definitely a winner!! We camped at Park at the River in a Fifth Wheel.

Very tightly spaced park. We had a lot of trouble backing into the space due to the amount of large trucks hanging out into the narrow road. Spaces are spaced apart with grass between but overall felt very crowded. Lots of families everywhere with lots of kids running around. There were toys everywhere. Owners were friendly. Good spot near the lake and close to Joseph which is a wonderful town, but we probably not stay here again. We camped at Park at the River in a Travel Trailer.

Camped here in early November. They had an early snow fall and graded out our spot before we arrived. Extremely friendly. Beautiful spot with snow on the ground. Right on a small stream. Will stay here again, but wish they had better Wi-Fi. It appears it come from their office and isn't strong enough to cover the whole campground. Perhaps they could put in a repeater in the middle of the area. Call ahead for reservations in summer. Very popular. We camped at Park at the River in a Motorhome.

Nice park, very shady and clean. We love this park, but the only things we didn't like is that they have pay showers. We think that for $30 a night you should be able to get a free shower. The second negative was the internet service. We tried to keep getting it at the cafe across the street and their satellite was having problems so we had to go to Joseph to get internet service. Other than these two problems, we would have given this park at 10. We camped at Park at the River in a Fifth Wheel.

Sites that backup to the road are extremely close together. No privacy, uneven, no space to put out chairs next to rig, and had to sit at rear of our motorhome. Construction work within 10 feet of our site went on from 6:30 a.m. until 8:30 p.m every night. Lots of noise and dust all day, and not able to leave windows open during daytime. After asking daily to be moved to a larger and more quiet site: on day 4 we were finally moved. Center row of spaces are much nicer, larger and quieter. Would only recommend sites in the middle section of the park if you have a larger rig. We camped at Park at the River in a Motorhome.
