We stayed in Sunset campground and the sites are actually more close together than I would have liked, especially on the inside of the loops. I would have preferred there be a bit more foliage to provide privacy, especially in a setting like this. If I had known, I would have reserved a site at the Aspen campground instead for the privacy foliage. Many of the paved pads were sloped so required a lot of leveling - we had our front legs fully extended. The bathrooms have running sinks and toilets, but no showers. There are pay showers at the resort if you need one. There is a fee to get into the resort area, but your stay at Sunset and Aspen campgrounds provides you a complimentary pass during the full length of your stay. It's a very pretty area and the 40-min drive to Crater Lake Nat'l Park was worth it. We work online, so Verizon LTE data coverage is a must, and as long as you are anywhere within 1/2 mi of the lake, you can get strong signal - all the campgrounds would be covered. There is no gas station for miles (Klamath Falls) so be sure to top off your tank before driving in. Now here's the weird part - we had some very strange encounters with the camper neighbors here who seemed to be from CA or locals. We have an older unit so immediately, every new person that arrived wanted to gossip badly about who we must be, and not at all discreetly - conversations are easy to pick up here. We have a Bengal cat on a leash, but everyone has dogs here (many not on leashes!) and heard a few negative comments about that, one as severe as "shame on my dog for not killing their cat." I think the dogs here are friendlier than the people!! Had an emergency power/generator situation at 9:30pm one night, and upset the newly arrived neighbors so badly we overheard one say after 10pm (when we turned it back off) that they would key our truck when they couldn't get the camp host to kick us out. Worst experience ever, and will not return. We camped at Sunset Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

Tips for other Campers:

Be sure to fill up on gas and groceries before arriving here, the nearest towns are 30 miles in every direction. Crater Lake National Park was worth the visit - drive the full loop around the lake.

WOW!!!!! This place is AMAZING!!! Excellent campground, friendly camp hosts, beautiful lake, great hiking trails, and gorgeous views!! Campsites are well maintained. Bathrooms are very nice. No hook-ups but well worth "dry camping" for all of the pluses this campground has to offer!! Water and bathrooms are nearby all sites. Sites are semi-private and the distance between the campsites makes it feel like you're not camping with a bunch of people you don't know. There are trails that go near the campsites (between the lake and the campsites) but even that was not a bother. A short walk/ride/paddle/drive will get you to the main Lake of the Woods campground which offers a general store, marina, restaurants and more. There are also a lot of scheduled movies, bands, etc. throughout the camp season. Our children LOVED the wooded areas and found many little adventures between the woods, the lake, and the hiking trails :-) You can bet we will be visiting this campground again very soon!! We would definitely recommend this campground/lake/resort!! We camped at Sunset Campground in a Travel Trailer.

Rate reflects Golden Age discount. Prior reviewer pretty much said it all: this campground (Sunset) is a gem with friendly camp hosts, and camp hosts' boss, that are very helpful. Very pretty lake, complete with snow capped peak visible from most campsites between the gorgeous, towering old-growth trees. Paved sites many of which are long enough to take a big rig but not particularly level. I will definitely stay here again next time I'm in the area. We camped at Sunset Campground in a Motorhome.

Rate reflects a 50% senior discount. There are three campgrounds very near to each other, this campground (Sunset), Aspen Campground, and Lake of the Woods Resort CG. Lake of the Woods has hookups and is reviewed elsewhere on this site. The other two (Sunset and Aspen) have no hookups. They are Forest Service campgrounds that are managed by Lake of the Woods Resort. All of the campgrounds are on Lake of the Woods. So, if you want hookups and are willing to pay the price, stay at Lake of the Woods Resort CG. If you want cheaper and calmer sites and don't need hookups, go for either Aspen or Sunset. One hint is that Sunset and Aspen share a dump station that is between Aspen CG and the Resort. That is also the place to fill a holding tank with fresh water. There are water spigots in the CG but they do not have threaded hose bibs. Get your water at the dump before you get to the CG. Sunset Campground is located on 15300 Dead Indian Memorial Road, Klamath Falls, but is actually about 32 miles from the town, just off of Highway 140. The sites are long and very well spaced. Some have oblique views of the lake, but most are in heavily wooded areas with tall Douglas Fir trees. Don't expect to get satellite here. Our Verizon phones and air card (for internet) worked well. When we visited the park, even on a weekend, it was not very heavily used. It was very quite and the lake is nice, with some good photo opportunities. It is nice and dark with the exception of some (too) bright lights on the restrooms. The hosts were nice and the sites were raked and very well taken care of. There are fire rings and picnic tables. Some sites were unlevel but we were able to find a nice site that was flat and easy to level. Some of the sites are reservable. We loved this CG and would definitely stay here again. We camped at Sunset Campground in a Motorhome.
