Only negative was the amount of continual dog barking. I and others spoke with two of the park host... and much to their frustration as well, they told us their "hands were tied" as the State Park Officials in charge are "concerned" more about hurting the feelings of a few dog owners that cannot control there dogs, than the majority of the campers that are paying to stay and enjoy the State Park as well. We camped at Champoeg State Heritage Area in a Fifth Wheel.

I almost passed this park up after reading the most recent review. Glad I didn't. I suspect the person writing that review confused this place with some other park. There are no long term campers here. The park is lovely, with lots of trees and grass, and well maintained. It's very quiet, being several miles off the interstate. The road in is a narrow two-lane with no shoulder in places, but it wasn't too bad, as there was no traffic on it. There is a nice, if very short bike trail in the park. No wifi, but Verizon worked fine for me in the B loop. Trees might affect coverage in some parts of the park. Got a few local tv stations. Site wasn't too far off level, had barely enough room for slide on driver's side, due to foliage. Very peaceful, relaxing place. We camped at Champoeg State Heritage Area in a Motorhome.

This is my third time staying at this park. I used to enjoy staying here but more and more "homeless" families are staying in the park in very rundown RVs. They don't cause any problems, but lots of kids and dogs. The dogs next to us barked all day! Just not very scenic looking at falling apart RVs and rundown cars. Some of the "campers" have been staying in the park for over 2 years! They are required to change sites and every once in awhile they have to leave the park but can return in 24 hours. During this stay the dump station was closed too, due to the drain field failing. It's a nice park but more and more permanents we will probably not be returning. So sad! We camped at Champoeg State Heritage Area in a Motorhome.

Stayed in A loop because nothing else was available in B loop. Lot's to do in the park, we had a great hike to visitor center, then down to the river, although, only access to river is from the boat dock. Visitors center has active garden and veggies might be available in season. Lot's of trees, most sites on A will not get out for Satellite, by, if you had a portable, probably could do it on 30 or 32. Verizon one bar, but 4g, downloads, but slow. We camped at Champoeg State Heritage Area in a Motorhome.

Love, love, love this campground. We stayed at 7 state parks in Oregon over 6 weeks, and this was my favorite. Our site was B34, and an end site, so we had a large side lot for our toddler to run around in. There is a natural playground in the campground which was a hit. The best part of the park for us was the 4 miles of paved (relatively flat) bike paths. If you go right for 2 miles from the campground you ride through old growth forests and can visit the oldest, continuously operated store in Oregon. If you go left for 2 miles, you ride through the forest, the oak grove, prairies, and then forest with 100 year old Sequoias. Their visitor center was one of the nicest we have seen at a State Park, and had a kitchen garden and heirloom orchard behind it, representative of what settlers had. Our site just had water and electric, and was not very shady, overall A loop had more shade, but the sites were closer together there. Great park, can't wait to return. We camped at Champoeg State Heritage Area in a Motorhome.

We stayed in the B loop which based on comments from other campers is more spacious than the A loop. The roads and sites are all paved and generally easy to navigate. Unfortunately for us, the exception to this is the area of B loop where our site was located. It is a small loop with lots of encroaching trees on the road and our particular site was not a good choice for a large/tall rig, also because of trees and shrubs. Because the sites here are in a circle it would be a great place for a family gathering. The other sections of B loop are well suited for larger rigs. The park itself is very nice with some walking paths and a few interesting historical sites. We plan to return and hope to snag one of the full hookup sites although the dump station was easy to navigate as well. Verizon worked sometimes but mostly not. We camped at Champoeg State Heritage Area in a Fifth Wheel.

This is a great State Park located right along the Willamette River not far from Newberg. The sites were level and asphalt. We loved this campground, we stayed in the B loop and had great privacy and the sites were separated by large trees. Will be coming back for sure. We camped at Champoeg State Heritage Area in a Travel Trailer.

This is always on our summer "places to stay list." I really hesitate to do a review as I would like to keep this a secret! LoL Incredible place for walking and bike riding. B-Loop has a more relaxed quiet atmosphere in my opinion! The A-Loop you will find a more "family" atmosphere! We camped at Champoeg State Heritage Area in a Fifth Wheel.

This is a delightful park. Sites are all very level, paved with good separation. Nice Bike trails. Didn't disconnect because the site was perfectly level and we only stayed 1 night each way. This park was exceptionally quiet... at least when we were there. We camped at Champoeg State Heritage Area in a Travel Trailer.

Beautiful Park - Big Rig Friendly. We stayed 2-weeks at this state park, when visiting the Portland area. We really enjoyed the natural beauty, the walking trail along the Willamette River and the proximity to wine country and downtown Portland. All of the Park Rangers and campground hosts were extremely nice. Many of the sites in Loop B are big rig friendly (i.e., fewer trees and typically longer sites than in Loop A). We enjoyed our stay here and look forward to returning in the future. We camped at Champoeg State Heritage Area in a Fifth Wheel.

Arriving late in year, most of the things in the park are closed, store included. No cell service, lots of hiking, biking. A lot more history then I ever knew. Park has a disc golf course. Was in A loop because of trees, site was level. B loop is nice, and more open for sure. Two sewer dumps leaving park. Winery across from entrance. Beautiful short drive from I5 through farms. Seats on the Willamette River, which has a boat in docks, with walk in site. Would definitely come back. We camped at Champoeg State Heritage Area in a Motorhome.

We were in the A-loop which is WE only, but there is a dump station nearby. All hookups worked well and we were able to receive 5 OTA tv stations. This section of the park is situated beneath old oak trees which provide shaded campsites. There is a second loop with a few FHU sites which is more open and would be more conducive for satellites. Lots of trails for bikes and peds. Quiet. Would come again. We camped at Champoeg State Heritage Area in a Motorhome.

This is a very nice park with shaded bike/walking paths that go on for miles and big fields where dogs can run unleashed. We were in the A loop where the spots are quite small and close together. There were a lot of large groups, but everyone was courteous about quiet time. The park is very convenient for wine tastings and for day trips to Portland. We would stay here again. The A loop sites are close together but have mature shade trees. If you want privacy then A23, A30, and A32 looked good. The B loop is newer and has much better spacing between sites. There are fewer trees in B. We stayed in B7 which is good if you like privacy on the patio side. It had a good shrub privacy screen and was set back from the adjacent site (B9). This is a nice park with paved walking/biking trails and areas of historical interest. On some of the trails you get a glimpse of the Willamette River. We live less than an hour away, and it makes for a nice getaway for a few days. We camped at Champoeg State Heritage Area in a Motorhome.
