Only negative was the amount of continual dog barking. I and others spoke with two of the park host... and much to their frustration as well, they told us their "hands were tied" as the State Park Officials in charge are "concerned" more about hurting the feelings of a few dog owners that cannot control there dogs, than the majority of the campers that are paying to stay and enjoy the State Park as well. We camped at Champoeg State Heritage Area in a Fifth Wheel.

Love, love, love this campground. We stayed at 7 state parks in Oregon over 6 weeks, and this was my favorite. Our site was B34, and an end site, so we had a large side lot for our toddler to run around in. There is a natural playground in the campground which was a hit. The best part of the park for us was the 4 miles of paved (relatively flat) bike paths. If you go right for 2 miles from the campground you ride through old growth forests and can visit the oldest, continuously operated store in Oregon. If you go left for 2 miles, you ride through the forest, the oak grove, prairies, and then forest with 100 year old Sequoias. Their visitor center was one of the nicest we have seen at a State Park, and had a kitchen garden and heirloom orchard behind it, representative of what settlers had. Our site just had water and electric, and was not very shady, overall A loop had more shade, but the sites were closer together there. Great park, can't wait to return. We camped at Champoeg State Heritage Area in a Motorhome.

This is a great State Park located right along the Willamette River not far from Newberg. The sites were level and asphalt. We loved this campground, we stayed in the B loop and had great privacy and the sites were separated by large trees. Will be coming back for sure. We camped at Champoeg State Heritage Area in a Travel Trailer.

Tips for other Campers:

Glad Newberg was close as my water hose was too short to reach the spigot. Took the 10 minute drive and picked one up at Fred Meyer's

This is always on our summer "places to stay list." I really hesitate to do a review as I would like to keep this a secret! LoL Incredible place for walking and bike riding. B-Loop has a more relaxed quiet atmosphere in my opinion! The A-Loop you will find a more "family" atmosphere! We camped at Champoeg State Heritage Area in a Fifth Wheel.

This is a delightful park. Sites are all very level, paved with good separation. Nice Bike trails. Didn't disconnect because the site was perfectly level and we only stayed 1 night each way. This park was exceptionally quiet... at least when we were there. We camped at Champoeg State Heritage Area in a Travel Trailer.

This is a great state park. The sites are spacious. They have a very cute playground for younger kids. There is an area where you are allowed to let your dogs run loose. We liked this place a lot. We camped at Champoeg State Heritage Area in a Travel Trailer.

Beautiful Park - Big Rig Friendly. We stayed 2-weeks at this state park, when visiting the Portland area. We really enjoyed the natural beauty, the walking trail along the Willamette River and the proximity to wine country and downtown Portland. All of the Park Rangers and campground hosts were extremely nice. Many of the sites in Loop B are big rig friendly (i.e., fewer trees and typically longer sites than in Loop A). We enjoyed our stay here and look forward to returning in the future. We camped at Champoeg State Heritage Area in a Fifth Wheel.

Arriving late in year, most of the things in the park are closed, store included. No cell service, lots of hiking, biking. A lot more history then I ever knew. Park has a disc golf course. Was in A loop because of trees, site was level. B loop is nice, and more open for sure. Two sewer dumps leaving park. Winery across from entrance. Beautiful short drive from I5 through farms. Seats on the Willamette River, which has a boat in docks, with walk in site. Would definitely come back. We camped at Champoeg State Heritage Area in a Motorhome.

This is our usual park when we are heading south each winter. This park offers easy access, large sites with power and water (there are some full-service sites), and a quiet sleep beside the Willamette River. There is a sani-dump available. We would certainly stay again. We camped at Champoeg State Heritage Area in a Travel Trailer.

There is a heritage park nearby that looks quite interesting from the map but most of it is closed in the winter.

Overall Rating:

We have stayed a few nights at this campground each of the last three years for family reunions. There are two main loops, an RV group camping area, several group tent camping areas, yurts and cabins available. The two main loops are completely different from the other. "A" loop is very shaded, the sites are back-ins and it is quite compact. "B" loop has very little shade, has a mix of pull-thru and back-in sites and seems to be intended for RV's. There is a museum, lots of pioneer history and enough nature trails and bike paths to keep a person interested for a few days. The park is just a few miles from the Portland suburbs but you'd never guess except to see the mansions on the opposite side of the river. We camped at Champoeg State Heritage Area in a Travel Trailer.

Another hidden gem just a few miles off the interstate. Take the seven miles out and you will be rewarded with a very quiet and nice park. Some trails around the park and along the Willamette River.

Sites are paved and level, hookups in excellent shape. In the shoulder season only the loop in the back is open. Only a few trees there, while the other loop is completely shaded. Dump station on the way in/out.

we have earmarked this place for future stops when travelling the I-5. We camped at Champoeg State Heritage Area in a Fifth Wheel.

This is a great park for a one night stay in January on our way south. We had a large, pull-through site with electricity and water. Some sites have full services. Very quiet with no train or traffic noise. We will stay again. We camped at Champoeg State Heritage Area in a Travel Trailer.

This is a state park about seven miles west of I-5. There are many activities here over the summer. Great park to watch the stars because it is so dark.

We have stayed at this park twice with excellent results. Lots of grass and nicely spaced between sites in the B-loop. A-loop in closely spaced. Great paved bike riding trails along the Willamette River. We will make this a regular stop. We camped at Champoeg State Heritage Area in a Fifth Wheel.
