I almost passed this park up after reading the most recent review. Glad I didn't. I suspect the person writing that review confused this place with some other park. There are no long term campers here. The park is lovely, with lots of trees and grass, and well maintained. It's very quiet, being several miles off the interstate. The road in is a narrow two-lane with no shoulder in places, but it wasn't too bad, as there was no traffic on it. There is a nice, if very short bike trail in the park. No wifi, but Verizon worked fine for me in the B loop. Trees might affect coverage in some parts of the park. Got a few local tv stations. Site wasn't too far off level, had barely enough room for slide on driver's side, due to foliage. Very peaceful, relaxing place. We camped at Champoeg State Heritage Area in a Motorhome.

Stayed in A loop because nothing else was available in B loop. Lot's to do in the park, we had a great hike to visitor center, then down to the river, although, only access to river is from the boat dock. Visitors center has active garden and veggies might be available in season. Lot's of trees, most sites on A will not get out for Satellite, by, if you had a portable, probably could do it on 30 or 32. Verizon one bar, but 4g, downloads, but slow. We camped at Champoeg State Heritage Area in a Motorhome.

We stayed in the B loop which based on comments from other campers is more spacious than the A loop. The roads and sites are all paved and generally easy to navigate. Unfortunately for us, the exception to this is the area of B loop where our site was located. It is a small loop with lots of encroaching trees on the road and our particular site was not a good choice for a large/tall rig, also because of trees and shrubs. Because the sites here are in a circle it would be a great place for a family gathering. The other sections of B loop are well suited for larger rigs. The park itself is very nice with some walking paths and a few interesting historical sites. We plan to return and hope to snag one of the full hookup sites although the dump station was easy to navigate as well. Verizon worked sometimes but mostly not. We camped at Champoeg State Heritage Area in a Fifth Wheel.

We were in the A-loop which is WE only, but there is a dump station nearby. All hookups worked well and we were able to receive 5 OTA tv stations. This section of the park is situated beneath old oak trees which provide shaded campsites. There is a second loop with a few FHU sites which is more open and would be more conducive for satellites. Lots of trails for bikes and peds. Quiet. Would come again. We camped at Champoeg State Heritage Area in a Motorhome.

This is a very nice park with shaded bike/walking paths that go on for miles and big fields where dogs can run unleashed. We were in the A loop where the spots are quite small and close together. There were a lot of large groups, but everyone was courteous about quiet time. The park is very convenient for wine tastings and for day trips to Portland. We would stay here again. We camped at Champoeg State Heritage Area in a Motorhome.

The A loop sites are close together but have mature shade trees. If you want privacy then A23, A30, and A32 looked good. The B loop is newer and has much better spacing between sites. There are fewer trees in B. We stayed in B7 which is good if you like privacy on the patio side. It had a good shrub privacy screen and was set back from the adjacent site (B9). This is a nice park with paved walking/biking trails and areas of historical interest. On some of the trails you get a glimpse of the Willamette River. We live less than an hour away, and it makes for a nice getaway for a few days. We camped at Champoeg State Heritage Area in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

Check hours first, but the two mile walk to the Butteville Store is worth it. After an hour of walking, you can have homemade pie, ice cream, or a freshly made sandwich.

We have stayed here often on our way either up or down the I-5 corridor and it's always a pleasant stay at this large Oregon State Park. This time we stayed in the B loop which is newer and has some sites with full hook-ups which we took advantage of. The park has many amenities including paved walking/bicycling trails, a disc golf course, rental cabins and yurts, a day use area, river access, an interpretive center and a pioneer garden. It's a bit of a drive off the freeway but well worth it for the peace and quiet. We would definitely stay here again. We camped at Champoeg State Heritage Area in a Travel Trailer.

The quaint town of Aurora is nearby and has charming antique shops. The interpretive center at the park does a good job of explaining the history of the area.

This is a wonderful area to visit and stay. The sites are great -- lots of space and privacy. We especially loved the big field that is provided to exercise your dog off the the leash. I know this will continue to be a place that we will visit. Lots of great trails for walking and bikes. All the trails we saw were paved. We camped at Champoeg State Heritage Area in a Motorhome.

This is a popular campground especially for locals, probably because it's a little serenity in the middle of very busy towns. Lots of families and kids. Our site was a bit of a tight squeeze for a 45 foot motorhome but it worked. We had water and electric but no sewer. There is a little separation between sites with some greenery. Quiet at night. Good biking area. For some reason though, I can't get excited about it. It's fine for a night or two but that would be about it for us. We camped at Champoeg State Heritage Area in a Motorhome.

This is a nice state park located not too far from Portland, and the Evergreen Aircraft and Space Museum, home of the Spruce Goose. Good AT&T wireless signal for voice and data. Electric and water only. Dump station can handle two rigs at a time. Sites were gravel and level. Not much privacy in this campground. Great bike riding on paved trails. Can’t ride bikes on unpaved hiking trails. Spaces closer together than we have experienced in state parks in other states. We would stay here again. We camped at Champoeg State Heritage Area in a Motorhome.

We stayed in the 'B' loop with our 40' motorhome which has the bigger, more open sites. The park was well kept and the bathrooms very clean. We had site B11 and there were six sites in this small loop. However, there is absolutely no sitting area privacy in the loop as they are all facing each other. We had a very noisy group next to us. We would choose one of the back in spots if we ever return. The 'A' loop has a lot of trees and the sites aren't conducive to bigger RVs. There are eight full hookup sites and many cabins and yurts to rent. There are miles of paved walking/biking trails. We were disappointed that there really is no river access. Our Verizon didn't work great. We camped at Champoeg State Heritage Area in a Motorhome.

Stayed here two nights at the beginning of a three week trip. Campground is situated about 7 miles from I-5. Some low hanging trees (about 12.5 foot) in the area but nothing that we could not go around. Stayed in loop B where there is minimal shade. If you are after a shady spot loop A is the place to go. Very few spots have sewer hookups so plan to use RV dump at the entrance to the campground. Very nice bicycle path close by. Beyond that, not a lot of things to do in the immediate vicinity but plenty to do within 30 mile radius. We camped at Champoeg State Heritage Area in a Fifth Wheel.

What a refreshing little place. We spent just over a week here after leaving a "private" "parking lot". We participated in a number of the offered activities during the weekend, and learned a lot. It was very pleasant and enjoyable. Definitely a must stop if you are in the area. Rangers were friendly and helpful. The camp hosts seemed to truly enjoy doing what they are there to do. Sites were clean and very well maintained. Honestly I must say even with all of the so-called budget cuts - State Parks by far have been a pleasure to stay at. Rate reflects Disabled Veteran Pass. We stayed in site B-18, handicapped, back in, water/electric. No sewer. Nice park in a beautiful and historic part of Oregon. Very close to Newburg. Fred Myers has cheapest fuel in town. Toured the Evergreen Aviation and Space Museum which we highly recommend. We will be back. We camped at Champoeg State Heritage Area in a Fifth Wheel.
