Overall Rating:

This place has no sewer connections and only 30 amp power. We were limited on options, so we chose this place based on reviews. It's an ok park, but it's not particularly pretty or otherwise appealing. The other patrons of the park were an interesting lot, to say the least. This park is huge, and it's close to Newport (a town by which we were not impressed, by the way). They have fire pits at each site and asphalt/grass, which was nice. We've driven past much nicer places in the area to stay, so if we had to come back this way, we'd probably only select this option again as a last resort. The bathrooms are nice, and the shower facilities are big and clean. There was also plenty of room between sites. There's also a nice shop in the park that's open until 8pm. We camped at South Beach State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Large, well designed campground with level sites and clean facilities. Easy walk to beach with many trails. Helpful staff and many campground hosts. Busy place on weekends. There is only one dump station for such a large campground. Go early to dump or plan on waiting. We camped at South Beach State Park in a Travel Trailer.

This park is hard to get a reservation at in the Summer, so was welcome to have chance at staying here. Part of park was closing, but found a site that worked for us. Level, an few low branches, hook up in right places. Campground has a lot of helpful hosts, and gazebo to rent bikes, info, and brochures. I believe Yurt rental is here too. Large park, disc golf course, lots of trail, and easy access to beach. Campground is behind the dune, so hidden from elements. Good size kids playground, good cell coverage. This would be a place to take family for week in the Summer. Close to the town of Newport, good bike riding, and a chartered fishing trips. I am for sure coming back. We camped at South Beach State Park in a Motorhome.

Overall Rating:

Staying here in October, we had our choice of many sites and the park was not crowded. We liked the fact that the sky wasn't crowded out by forest, and the open areas have playgrounds and room for kids. All the usual Oregon state park features, with friendly hosts and staff. Good Verizon cell/data and clear views of TV satellites with a portable dish. With only 30A power and water, the $31 rate (plus reservation fee) is on the high end for an Oregon park, and the November increase to $33 makes it questionable for a stay in the area. We camped at South Beach State Park in a Motorhome.

Overall Rating:

A "typical" Oregon State Park. Heavily treed, too much so, grass, paved roads and parking sites. Convenient access from major highway. Roads are wide and sites are east to access. Has 30 Amp power, water, but no sewer. There are "kitchen sink" water tubes located conveniently thru out the park. Free water fill and sewer dump is available. Has picnic table and fire pit. Staff is efficient, friendly and helpful. Bathrooms and showers are located throughout the park. They are well maintained and clean. No WIFI, no cable, ATT and Verizon good signal. Personal WIFI good signal with booster. Short walk to the beach with several access points. Would stay again. We camped at South Beach State Park in a Motorhome.

This wasn't one of our favorite state parks. It's in a great location and that was the part we did like, but what we didn't like is how crowded and noisy it is and how close the sites are together. We are used to having some sort of privacy at state parks, with trees and space, but this park was not like that. The sites are really close together and there was constant noise and activity all day long. Our site (B13) was right on the main road which may have contributed to the noise level, there were vehicles, bikes, and people constantly going by the campsite. I imagine it may not be like that during the off season, but summer was not the best time to be there for us since we prefer a lot more space and privacy. The paved trails that lead to the beach are very nice, and the paved South Jetty trail was also great for biking. We rode our bikes down to the Rogue Brewery for a tour and dinner one evening which was really fun. This park really is in a great location if you can overlook the constant noise and activity around the campground. Also, Verizon worked very well there. We camped at South Beach State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

This isn't our top Oregon coast state park, but it's fairly high on our list. It's a big park set a quarter mile or so back from the beach. It's in a setting of shore pines. They are attractive trees but don't offer visual privacy at ground level. If you enjoy privacy G15 where we stayed was nice. G14, A37, C11, E22, and G12 are some other nice ones. In summer every day felt like a weekend. It's crowded with people walking and biking through the loop roads. The trails felt much less crowded. There are 3 main trails to the beach. They start out paved. You will have to walk through some dry sand and over dunes to reach the beach. A walk to the south jetty and to the bridge/marina area is all paved which took us about 45 minutes. From this park you will hear a foghorn (we like). Garbage/recycling is all the way toward the front of the loops. Pet waste drop offs are throughout the loops at at trail entrances. We camped at South Beach State Park in a Motorhome.

We had a very nice stay here at the end of June. Our stay here was with a group of people using a combination of RV's and yurts. The campground was clean and the hosts were helpful and informative. The park is pretty large with 227 water/electric, 60 tent sites, and 27 yurts. No sewer at each site but they do have a dump station. The Verizon signal was good here and we picked up a dozen+ tv stations over the antenna. There are multiple trails to the beach. The only negative that we encountered was the mosquitos here. At times we hardly see any in camp, and on a walk to the beach on one of the trails we were swarmed early morning. Over all a good stay. We camped at South Beach State Park in a Motorhome.

227 electric and water sites, 60 tent sites, hiker-biker camp, site B1. This campground is just south of Yaquina Bay's South Jetty. It is huge, with bathhouses including showers. There are six loops and sites are also along the main road in. There is also a welcome center with information, free coffee, and good company. Our site was near the trail out to the beach and boardwalk. Every site has a picnic table and fire pit. The sites are mostly back-ins and are a good size. There are 22 yurts for rent in this park. Hiking trails and bike trails to the beach and to the south Jetty in town. Very pet friendly with woof bags, and dogs are allowed on the beach. This park is near the Yaquina Bay Lighthouse just across the bridge and the Oregon Coast Aquarium. In the summer ranger talks and hikes are offered. This park is one of the few along the coast that we had good iphone service. We camped at South Beach State Park in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

Oregon Coast Aquarium is very close to this park. Fish and chips and the fish market right on 101 just south of the bridge before you get to the park. Fresh caught fish to make fish and chips. Thursday was Ling Cod for the fresh fish. Also you have to go down to historic bay front and see the sea lions

I will start by saying this is a nice park, but HUGE! We were placed about as far from the entrance as could be. What we did not know upon entering, there is only ONE trash site and it is in the entrance of the park. The other thing we were unaware of, you need to buy your firewood upon entering the park. Other parks we visited they would come around with it. Since it was close to a mile back to the entrance and we are elderly with limited walking, we could not go back once the MH is set up. Luckily I flagged down some nice park workers and they sent out a ranger and he went and got our firewood for us. Then after 3 days we decided to rent a car to be able to see the local sites. First night another employee knocks on our door at 8:30 and needs to collect an additional $7.00 for the extra (?) car. Had we towed the car in, there would not of been a charge. Does this make ANY sense? We were told to address it with higher ups, they could not help us. I have since done this, to no avail. It's an old rule on the Oregon books to discourage others from joining you once you enter the park. I get that, but our rental car did not take up any additional space and there was only 2 of us the whole time! Does not seem fair. We camped at South Beach State Park in a Motorhome.

We spent a total of 10 days in this Oregon State park in three different sites. This is a really large, very popular park. If you enjoy peace and quiet, don't even think about coming here on a weekend during summer months, or, God forbid, a holiday weekend....it is ugly! During the week, it is actually a pretty plesant place to stay. Easy access (mostly paved paths) to the wonderful dog friendly beach which is a few miles long. Friendly hosts, volunteers, and Rangers do a good job keeping the park clean and tree branches trimmed for (the most part) to make it a big rig friendly park. Pruning shears may be needed at a few sites. Easy walking distance to the beach, jetty, pier, brewery, and harbor. If you like beaches, you can easily spend several relaxing hours walking the beach (low tide is best). The main road to each of the loops can be a bit busy with cars and walkers but has the easiest access for backing into your site. Most any outside loop sites are big rig friendly with 45 degree back in angles. The inside sites are at 90 degrees and much shorter. Our favorite loop is the G loop (F is our second), as long as you get an outside loop spot. While a bit further from the beach, you do get some much larger sites with some privacy between them. Our G9 spot, while pretty, was a bit hairy getting into with our 43' rig, but this looked to be the worst in the loop. Two of our sites had satellite reception, G9 did not due to trees. Very good Verizon coverage. We camped at South Beach State Park in a Motorhome.

A beautiful area of Oregon!! Several state parks along the coast with great whale watching and beach combing. Newport is close with some really great restaurants (Local Ocean is amazing!). The bad...Newport is a tourist town with bad drivers and horrible traffic.

The setting of this park is great, with plenty of well kept walking and biking paths to the ocean, the jetty, and even to the Rogue Brewery. The sites are roomy, but in late August all was dry and dusty, and there isn't much in the way of planting between the sites so there is no privacy. The public areas were clean and fairly quiet and relaxed, even with hundreds of campsites that were all full. Plenty of camp hosts to help if needed.
