"a Gem" as someone else called it. Will definitely use again if in the area. Wives & dogs loved the walk to the beach & the 'private' beach at the end. No wi-fi & Verizon spotty, but 7 miles to Pt Orford & 20 to Gold Beach. Highlight of our 4 stop trip up the coast. We camped at Humbug Mountain State Park in a Travel Trailer.

Tips for other Campers:

Sunset Pizza in Gold Beach. You won't believe the crust. Porthole restaurant was recommended as best burger & best clam chowder- both disappointed all 4 of us. Enjoyed Cedar Bend golf course- 9 holer with multiple tees & 2 flags on each green.

May 28, Humbug Mountain State Park, Port Orford, Oregon, 39 Hookups water & electric and 56 tent sites, Hiker-biker camp, $30. A 40 This campground is a gem. The sites are not that private and some are not level. There are very nice pull throughs and back ins. Our site 40 was nice but unlevel with the campers behind us walking through all the time to reach the bathhouse on Memorial Weekend. This was not the parks fault but those camping not knowing the rules of courtesy. The host and rangers were very nice and informative. There is even a field where children could play all sorts of games. There are two loops and the second one is near the beach trail. It is quite a walk from the first loop. We only stayed one night but would have stayed more but had to move on. This is located along a river with the Humbug Mountain surrounding the campground. It is beautiful. One can take a five mile hike up the mountain or a short walk along the river, under 101 to a cove where the river meets the ocean and a beautiful beach. The beach is almost a private one for the campers and somehow surfers scale down the cliffs. The cliffs are hard to scale down from the highway so the campground walk is the easy way to get there. It is beautiful and great for dogs. Oregon is so dog friendly. I just loved it here and wish we had something like this on the east coast. I have not met anyone that does not like this park. It is a gem! We camped at Humbug Mountain State Park in a Motorhome.

As an RV park, this is a great place. As an example of the Oregon State parks, it is just OK. Our site good size and reasonably level but others around us had a pretty good slope and would be difficult to level a larger rig. The coast highway US 101 goes right by the park so lots of track noise and truck compression breaks. The park is in a great location and has access to an uncrowded beach which can only be accessed through the park. This park accepts reservations in the off season while several other Oregon State Parks in the vicinity are first come first serve. Electric and water. Dump station at park. Spotless restrooms and grounds due to the hard work of the Oregon State Park hosts and staff. We camped at Humbug Mountain State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

It was a very nice park with the exception that our site was VERY close to the road and the next campers. Our "area" and the neighbors "area" over lapped. Luckily our dog and theirs, as well as ourselves all got along. VERY close to the road also. At night it wasn't too noisy. Our first Oregon trip, would probably pass on this one next time or be sure to get a spot OFF the road. We camped at Humbug Mountain State Park in a Motorhome.

Water and electric only. Very spacious sites, good park if you have pets. No checkin with host when arriving, you either self check at kiosk or go directly to your site if you have reservations. Extremely weak Verizon signal, barely one bar. About 150 yard sandy path the goes under Hwy 101 to small beach on ocean. Hosts and park rangers all friendly. Would stay here again. We camped at Humbug Mountain State Park in a Motorhome.

Another nice state park right off Hwy 101. Very nice camp sites, but like a lot of state parks finding sites for our 34' motorhome can sometimes be a challenge. But because we stopped early in the day and still not the busy season we found a good back in site with 30/50 electric and water. Easy access to Hwy 101 and into Port Orford. Some highway noise, but the logging trucks stop at night. The host were friendly. We camped at Humbug Mountain State Park in a Motorhome.

This is an older park. Lots of big trees and a very nice beach to walk to. Unfortunately their are no sewer hookups and their dump site is broken. When I asked the Park Ranger when it would be working again he snapped at me, "How would I know?" Not very professional. We were here over Labor Day and the camp was full. I wouldn't recommend this park for camping. The beach is lovely and I would recommend it. We camped at Humbug Mountain State Park in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

Great location to see Port Orford, good food, great views of Pacific Ocean up and down the coast. Unique harbor with boats lifted out of water by a crane. Less than an hours driving distance to the Samuel H. Boardman State Park and the towns of Gold Beach and Brookings.

Beautiful park with a lovely, private beach. Great hike from park to Humbug Mountain summit. Loop A has good big-rig sites, but they are close together. Loop B is much more open with good Verizon and satellite TV reception. However, Loop B has many tent sites close to the big-rig sites, so if the park is full, you could have campers ten feet away. We were here mid-week, off-season, so the park was empty. Yes, there is logging truck noise from nearby Hwy 101, but as soon as it gets dark, the trucks stop and the park is delightfully quiet. Griff's On the Dock in Port Orford, a funky little place nestled with the fishing boats, has great seafood at reasonable prices with an ocean view. We would definitely stay here again. We camped at Humbug Mountain State Park in a Motorhome.

Oregon State Parks are some of the country's best, and Humbug Mountain is a hidden gem. Sheltered by mountains, the park is generally sunny and warmer when the surrounding area is fogged in, and if camped in the upper loop, is much less windy. A short trail passes under the Highway 101 bridge to a beautiful, secluded beach, and the old highway is now a great walking trail which features great views of the water and an unusual "fern trail". The upper loop is less windy, the lower closer to the beach and has a limited number of pull-through sites. Traffic noise can be bothersome during the day but quiets down at night, and most sites provide privacy from neighbors. Bathrooms are meticulously maintained and hosts and the ranger staff are friendly and helpful. Cell service is spotty, as is Verizon data, but most restaurants in Port Orford feature free WiFi. Close to the Cape Blanco lighthouse, Hughes House, and Coast Guard lifesaving museum. More family-oriented than most state parks we've visited. We camped at Humbug Mountain State Park in a Motorhome.

Beautiful state park - just a short walk to a private beach right on the coast. This is not a RV resort! Quiet and clean. This could be the best value on the Oregon coast. We camped at Humbug Mountain State Park in a Motorhome.

Really pretty campground with good access to the beach. I would have given it a "10" except the noise from Hwy 101 is irritating with logging trucks passing by just across the creek along the edge of the campground. We camped at Humbug Mountain State Park in a Travel Trailer.

Located between two mountains, there is a short hike to a very beautiful Pacific Ocean Beach. Sites are paved, though prone to flooding in rains. There are two sections, each manned by friendly hosts. As a campground, it is excellent, but there is not much shopping in the area. Port Orford is expensive. Gas prices are 15 cents per gallon higher and the local food store is pricy. If you plan to stay long term, be sure to get supplies before arrival. There is no Internet, nor broadcast television reception. I could not get a signal on my Verizon cell phone. The only radio reception I got was from satellite radio. You are isolated. In case of emergencies, the hosts have landlines. While weather is usually very nice, you can encounter very rough Pacific Storms as they hit the coastline and get funneled into the surrounding mountains. I actually watched the winds flow in two directions. It is a quiet grounds that are great for perhaps a week. This is a great jumping off spot though. Go south to the California Border (about 50 miles south) and you will get any number of incredible Pacific Ocean views. Just over the California border is the famous Redwood Forest. We camped at Humbug Mountain State Park in a Travel Trailer.

One of Oregon's best kept secrets, this park's location (shielded by Humbug Mountain), keeps it sunny and warm while the surrounding area is fog-covered and cold. Sites are all paved, and there are some pull-thru sites available for big rigs. Restrooms and showers were recently upgraded and are spotlessly maintained by the staff, who are friendly and willing to help if needed. There are great trails up the mountain and down the coast, open areas for kids to play, and a trail to the beach. Throw in the the blackberries and huckleberries ripe for picking and it just doesn't get much better. Although Port Orford doesn't offer much, there's a grocery market and a great restaurant called the Crazy Norwegian. No broadcast TV or internet, but clear shots to the satellites are available from most sties. An amazing place. We'll stay here again. We camped at Humbug Mountain State Park in a Motorhome.

Oregon State Parks are the best. This is a well kept campground in a nice setting. The sites are plenty roomy for big rigs and the hookups are great. We walked the Humbug Trail and had a great time. We camped at Humbug Mountain State Park in a Motorhome.
