Date of Stay: August, 2017 - $40.00
Overall Rating:

Our visit was a 1-nighter, in-and-out. $40 rate is for a back-in site. First Impression: Crowded. In the flight-path of Portland's airport. Safety: Office warns to keep bicycles inside unit. Access: We took exit 13 from I-84, go north around bend to the left to 122nd street, turn right, then left at the "T", drive about 5 miles past airport to NE 13th street, turn left. You can also come in from I-5, go east on NE Marine Drive. Good signage. Garmin GPS is accurate. Office: Used for check-in only, no store. Credit cards accepted. Online reservations available. Good Sam discount. Facilities: No pool, spa, fitness room or rec center. Laundry room. Restrooms/showers not inspected. No propane sales. No playground. Dog walk areas. Campground: Next to Columbia river but no signs of flooding problems. No storm shelter. No trees. Interior roads are slightly narrow, asphalt in good condition with gentle turns and no overhead obstacles. Big rig and long coach friendly. Prevosts shouldn't have problems. No tent area, yurts, or cabins. Sites are all cramped, level, concrete, pull-through and back-in (60' long), grass between. Sites have concrete parking area adjacent. Utilities at rear of site with FHU-20/30/50; metered for monthlies. Adequate water pressure with good taste. Sewer pipe is 4" threaded, at ground level, rear of site (I needed 2 stinky tubes). No patios; no picnic tables. No room for ground fires; no fire rings. Good satellite views. Free cable TV (34 channels). Free Wi-Fi but office advises of poor performance (true). Verizon phone and 4G at 3 bars. No recycle bins. Noise: Airline aircraft start at 6 AM. No railroad, local traffic, or interstate noise. Bug Report (late August): no insect issues. Runners: CG roads good for running. Yoga: sites are plenty big enough for your mat. Conclusion: Score 5-Acceptable. We camped at Columbia River RV in a Fifth Wheel.

This place gets high ratings because of the location. It's convenient. There's no way it would be rated this high if it were in the boonies. I'd say 80% of people staying here are permanent residents. It's a trailer park with very old RVs. It claims to be Big Rig friendly but all big rigs here seemed to have run over the grass out of necessity. You absolutely need to unhook before going to your site. The sites are on top of each other. If you put out your slides, that's all the space you have. The most hysterical thing is that they claim to be pet-friendly. They have nothing written other than "pick up after your pets", but upon check in the guy told us that we couldn't walk our pets in the park. They expected us to walk about 1/4 mile out of the park, across the busy street and into another park's dog run (which is all dirt). Their reasoning was to "protect the grass". There's about 1 foot of grass on each side of each site. We saw sites with junk on their site but park is worried about the integrity of the grass. Another short-term resident approached us and said "they say don't do it but everyone does because it's a ridiculous non-written rule". The area is also very strange. It's between the hood and a nicer more suburban area. Our site was unlevel. Parking was tough because of the location of the services - be careful of your slides. We camped at Columbia River RV in a Motorhome.

We love this park because it's so close to downtown Portland. WiFi, and cell service for is always slow, and spotty. Site was level, grounds clean, staff very helpful. Lots of residents, but clean, and nice. Bathrooms are cleaned perfectly everyday, cable I can never say, as that is not what we do traveling. Will come back again. We camped at Columbia River RV in a Motorhome.

We had easy access from I5 coming south and upon leaving the I5 access going south we crossed three lanes for entrance. Our site at park was large, good utilities and location of utilities, cable tv, cement and grass with no table. Definitely big rig easy and will return. The only real negatives are airplane noise and resident workers leaving at 5am. Will return. We camped at Columbia River RV in a Motorhome.

The people in the office were super nice and helpful. When we first arrived I was pretty depressed at the idea of spending 4 nights here as the sites are very close together and visually there is no break from the stacks and stacks of RVs down the interior roads. There seem to be lots of perms and semi-perms and I was dreading the "people noise" that can come with that situation. Turns out I was wrong. For a tightly packed space the park was very quiet on the inside. People were nice and very courteous and everyone kept dogs and kids under control. True, we were gone most of the day and evening, but when we were here it was fairly pleasant. We did not use the bathrooms or laundry or Wifi. The interior roads are very narrow - but paved - as are the sites. It is barely big rig friendly and we disconnected at the entrance which made getting into the narrow pull through site a little easier. We were on a concrete pad but it was not level. There is a small concrete patio for sitting but no picnic table - or you could park a small car there. My pickup truck was too big and we had to squeeze it in sideways at the back of the site. We stayed here specifically for the convenience of hosting our son on vacation and visiting Portland/Mt Hood. I would stay again for that reason but would not come back if it were for my personal vacation. We camped at Columbia River RV in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

This is a park convenient to the light rail system to access downtown Portland, an extensive bike/walk trail on the Columbia River, lots of good restaurants within 5 miles, a terrific produce market and the interstates. It is also close to the airport with some accompanying noise but not bad at all and right on a busy road along with its noise - both of which die down at night.

City RV park near the Columbia River and very near the airport. So yes, you are going to hear planes and sometimes it's deafening. Neat and tidy, most residents are just that, living there and working. Very quiet at night. Bathrooms were nice and clean. Laundry on site also. There is a group room. All paved. Sites are concrete, but very skinny. My door ended up on the grass, which was a mud hole. It rained an entire day, then the sprinklers run every night, so always muddy. This is not a good park for dogs, but if you need to be in the city, and you take your dog with you, there are many places to take your dog and Portland in general is very dog friendly.

The Dogs Opinion (it's all about the dogs): There is a pretty nasty postage stamp dog park across the road that is owned by the RV park. It's just dirt, and because of the rain, it was a mud pit. There are signs everywhere to not let your dog onto the grass, so I took my dogs to the dog park, then walked them in the street next door with houses. That was pleasant. Just east on Marine drive, just past Salty's restaurant, is a big marina and parking lot, go to the far end. You are supposed to pay $5 to park. You can walk down to the beach on the river then hook up with a trail. There is also a paved bike path but I would not walk dogs there, as there are many bicyclist. The beach and trail are lovely and quiet. You can have your dogs off leash here. Also there are many parks in the city that have an off leash area that is unfenced. There are fenced dog parks not too far. Use the Dog Goes dog park finder app to see all the parks.

TV? Cable TV with good channels. Very nice, even had the OWN channel.

Cell phone/Wi-Fi? Speedtest? Verizon is strong here. The RV park Wi-Fi is 1.5 ish mpbs. Too slow for me, I used my jet pack. We camped at Columbia River RV in a Motorhome.

What's nearby? Salty's is a restaurant right on the river and the parking lot was packed every night that I drove by. I did not eat there. Drive south on 33rd to Alberta street and go west (right). There are tons of eateries and fun shops here. Healthy Pets Northwest is at 20th street a great place for good dog food and accessories. CruzRoom is an awesome place to eat with unusual tacos. Many restaurants have good happy hour specials.

Large park with paved roads and concrete sites. Good water pressure and wifi worked well. We've stayed here before for the convenience and returned because we knew what to expect. Ninety percent of the park is occupied by residents, some of them not caring much about their site or rig upkeep. Based on the landscaping, management has lost interest too. It's located off Marine Drive (trucks) and west of PDX. There's a LOT more noise than I remember. We won't be back. We camped at Columbia River RV in a Fifth Wheel.

Even though the WiFi signal strength was excellent, the data traffic rate varied between miserable and zero.

I will avoid this park in the future. There's no excuse in 2016 for having nonexistent Internet service.

Roads are all paved, and all sites are cement. We camped at Columbia River RV in a Fifth Wheel.

All in all, a nice facility, across the street from the Portland Yacht Club. Several good restaurants nearby. Paved streets, and pads. The sites are tight, but fairly easy to get into and out of. A paved bike path along the Columbia River and the airport starts about a mile away. WiFi is weak. Cable is analog. Pictures on local channels are better with an antenna. We camped at Columbia River RV in a Fifth Wheel.

Cost is a monthly rate. This park is within 2.5 miles of the yellow line Expo train terminal. We purchased metro coupons and NEVER took the car into Portland. The convenience and cost is priceless. $5.00 a day allows you to ride train, bus and trolly. There is actually a stop at a nearby Fred Meyer grocery on the ride home. We often stopped and bought groceries on way home in the evening. Marine drive is a shortcut to I-84 and all that the Columbia River/gorge offers. All utilities located at rear of coach and worked well. Cable free as is wifi and both worked well. Concrete pad, however slanted front to back. Tow car parked beside coach.

The sites are very close together. We could hear the television from the camper across the street. The park is 75% permanent residents, however it is clean and tidy. We were offended by the "requirement" of a $35.00 fee each for a background check. We were uncomfortable as to what this might mean. The young man in the office could use some training on his language. When in the office with additional workers, he is quiet, calm and professional. When alone, his is swearing and complaining about this job being to stressful for a person his age. We would return to this park if visiting Portland again. We camped at Columbia River RV in a Motorhome.

We stayed for a week and got the weekly discount and a Good Sam discount. We stayed here 2 years ago and have returned because we liked it. As others have said, it is well maintained, clean and the sites are fairly level with good hook-ups. Yes, the wi-fi is almost non-existent but the cable TV is good. And, yes, the flight path for the near-by airport is right over head.
It is really not a campground but more a place where you live for a night or a week or a month or whatever. We find the location of this park good: it is close to Vancouver, WA if you want to visit the National Historic Site, it is within driving distance to the Columbia Gorge and all its attractions, it is only 2 miles from the Yellow Line Max if you want to get into Portland. We like to hike and an find ample trails around here. We would definitely stay here again when we are in the Portland area. We camped at Columbia River RV in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

Fort Vancouver National Historic Site, the Columbia River Gorge with its views from the Womens Federation Park, the Cliff House, all the waterfalls and the beautiful drive through the gorge (don't take the Interstate), Columbia Gorge Interpretive Center Museum - all are excellent attractions. Take the Max Yellow lIne into town - it's lots cheaper than paying for parking.
