No lake access. Plenty of area to walk the dog. It was early in the season so very few campers. We camped at Joseph H. Stewart State Recreation Area in a Fifth Wheel.

Overall Rating:

Stayed over Spring Break weekend with a few other families. Rangers and Hosts patrolled area a little much, like every 10 minutes a vehicle would drive by and look at what was going on. Not a huge deal, just a little obnoxious. Camp spot was clean and everything worked great. This place gets packed in the summer, it was great, with maybe 20 - 25 other campers during the springtime. We camped at Joseph H. Stewart State Recreation Area in a Motorhome.

Overall Rating:

This is a very nicely setup state park. The sites have water and electric -- there is a dump station. The sites are long (some up to 90'), wide and spacious. Grass and lots of trees, but the trees are well trimmed preventing any problems. The campground and facilities are clean and well maintained. Plenty of things to do - hiking, biking, boating, swimming and a fun playground for kids. Definitely a good choice when visiting Crater Lake. We camped at Joseph H. Stewart State Recreation Area in a Fifth Wheel.

Tips for other Campers:

Approximately 45 minutes from Crater Lake, but it is a very scenic and easy drive. Also recommend a visit to the Cole M Rivers Fish Hatchery. Plenty of places to sightsee on the Rogue River. Beautiful area.

Overall Rating:

151 electrical & water sites in four loops, over 200 sites all together. We stopped at this state park driving on Route 62 south after leaving Crater Lake. Nice park with four loops and one of them is only for tenters. The tent loop has the best views of the Lost Creek Reservoir which the park overlooks. There is a day use area a distance from the campground for swimming and boating. The sites are nice many with shade trees. Bathhouses with showers. One can bike the 11 miles of trails through and around the campground, day use area and along the highway. We were in loop B which I thought was the nicest loop after the tent loop. There is a dump station, playground, off leash dog area, fish cleaning station, boating, hiking, biking, volleyball court, horseshoe pits and swimming in the day use area. Every site has a picnic table and fire ring. Nice area to stop for the night or more. We were there the first weekend in June and not many sites were available. Reservations accepted. We camped at Joseph H. Stewart State Recreation Area in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

Driving from the north stop in the little village of Union Creek at Beckie's Café for good food and delicious homemade pies. There is also a barbecue stop across the street with tables right on the river.

Overall Rating:

Very nice wide open spaces, not overcrowded. No sewer at the site but a nice dump station. Our site did not offer a lot of shade until late, late afternoon but that is when you need it most. We did not take advantage of the other end of the park near the lake since we arrived late. Great paths to walk and nice dog areas. Wonderful for the price, I would recommend to anyone for a nice break from your typical RV park. Very relaxing. We camped at Joseph H. Stewart State Recreation Area in a Travel Trailer.

Overall Rating:

This is a beautiful campground, grass, and trees, paved level, spacious sites with water & electric hookups, no sewer, but there is a dump station. The bathrooms/showers were very clean and up to date and well taken care of, as is the entire campground. There is a nice fenced pet area.
There is firewood for sale in the campground.
We were in B loop and din't notice any of the road noise mentioned by others.
There is a nice trail down by the lake.
The only problem we had, was though no fault of the campground, there was a large fire that covered the entire area with heavy smoke at times, but never really threatened the CG.
If we are ever in the area again, we will certainly stay here. We camped at Joseph H. Stewart State Recreation Area in a Motorhome.

Overall Rating:

Very much enjoyed our 4 night stay. Our spot was spacious and shady and we had a bit of a lake view. Bathrooms clean, albeit we were there during fires and the park was not full. Would be a 9.5 if they had sewer and a 10 if they had a Verizon signal. Can't really complain when the Oregon State Parks are a third of the price of overpriced CA State Parks. We camped at Joseph H. Stewart State Recreation Area in a Travel Trailer.

We stayed with a 40' motorhome and easily fit into our site. The B Loop is best for large RVs. The roads and sites are paved and the campground is well kept with large shade trees. There are miles of paved biking/walking trails. None of the sites are on the lake as there is a steep bluff. There is a day use area to drive to that offers swimming, a boat launch and boat rentals along with a small store. This park is a convenient spot to tour Crater Lake and various waterfalls and access to fishing spots on the river. We would definitely stay again. We camped at Joseph H. Stewart State Recreation Area in a Motorhome.

Overall Rating:

The only reason we give this a 7 and not a 10 is the road noise. The road noise is rather noticeable. Other than that this is a beautiful, well maintained park. Clean restrooms and showers. Ample space between sites. Park-like setting with mowed grass and trees. Normal rate is $20 but we stayed during discovery season so it was $16. In terms of "loudness" , D loop is the quietest and furthest from the road but it is tents only. Next is B loop, then A loop, with C loop being the closest to the road and the loudest. Gets a lot of use during summer so reserve. We would return again. We camped at Joseph H. Stewart State Recreation Area in a Fifth Wheel.

Date of Stay: September, 2012 - $20.00
Overall Rating:

The rate at the beginning of our stay was $20 per night. On Oct 1st, it went down to $16 for "Discovery Season". The park closes at the end of October. This is a very nice state park. It is well manicured and well maintained. It has some nice hiking and biking trail. The only reason for not giving it a 10 is that, even though it is on Lost Creek Lake, the lake is not really a feature of the CG. There is not really a view and the lake is not really accessible from the CG. The other negative is that it is so well manicured there is no shielding to provide privacy to the sites. On the positive side, it is quite and nicely dark at night. Don't expect to get satellite without a lot of work. There are many trees in the CG. After a lot of work, we did manage to get a site where we could get the satellite. Our Verizon phone worked on extended service and our Aircard got very, very slow internet. The closest shopping is in Shady Cove, which has a nice little, well stocked grocery. This park is definitely worth a visit. If we are in the area we will stay there again. We camped at Joseph H. Stewart State Recreation Area in a Motorhome.

Overall Rating:

Another Great Oregon State Park. The restrooms and showers were clean and in good condition. The sites were shaded and spacious. Our site was clean and raked when we arrived. We had a level asphalt parking pad. Many of the sites are suitable for big rigs. There were many sites with water and electric but no sewer hookups. There is a dump station. The camp hosts were friendly and helpful and took pride in helping keep the park looking nice. The lake is not great when the water is low. The boat landing, picnic area and beach is a few miles away at the day use area. There were quite a few hiking trails that started on site. We have liked every Oregon State Park we stayed at and this one is no exception. We camped at Joseph H. Stewart State Recreation Area in a Fifth Wheel.

A very nice state park, clean and well maintained. A good destination park to spend several days. There are paved biking and hiking trails. Crater Lake National Park is within an easy drive, a must see. Rogue River Gorge also near by. A beautiful, quiet and peaceful park. We camped at Joseph H. Overall Rating:

Very nice State Park, some sites have a lake view although the bank down to the water is very steep. For lake access there are walking and biking trails to the nearby beach area. We rode all the bike trails, they are paved although tree roots have made some bumpy. Some nice views, and pleasant forest ride. Only complaint is that some folks camp with noisy dogs that are not trained. We camped at Joseph H. Stewart State Recreation Area in a Travel Trailer.

We had site #A28 with 30 amp electric and water. The site was a long, paved back-in sloped from back to front. The park is very pretty and well maintained, our loop was full over the weekend but not too noisy. B loop has sites overlooking the water, but not waterfront. Crater Lake NP was a nice day trip although most of the park was still closed for the season. We camped at Joseph H. Stewart State Recreation Area in a Motorhome.
