Overall Rating:

This is a good Thousand Trails park although the sites are on the small side and could use some gravel or grass to cover the dirt. There are a lot of activities here for guests to participate in like ice cream socials, breakfasts, BBQs, etc. In addition, access to the beach across the road is easy. There's a fenced in dog park for our furry friends, too. Laundry facilities are good and machines are new. The rangers at the gate keep track of which sites are empty and can give you suggestions for where your rig will fit and where you can get satellite reception. This is another campground with sites on two sides of the road, so you may want to check out both sides before you choose a site. Clubhouses are well maintained and not worn and tired. The big problem here is Verizon internet service. It is non-existent. You can purchase internet from the office, but may have to go to one of the clubhouses to use it. You can also purchase cable TV if you can't get satellite TV in your site. Another negative was that the hot tub was not working the entire week we were there and had been closed for over a week before we arrived. We camped at Thousand Trails - Whalers Rest RV Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Many potholes need to be filled from gravel pile right on location. Sites need trimming to avoid rubbing on side of rv and for maybe improved Sat reception from roof. Tight back in sites with trees on sides of road. Meals are good bbq & breakfast on weekends. Movie rental selection is very good and cheap at $1. Nice camp store. Pool table in adult lodge needs some work. We camped at Thousand Trails - Whalers Rest RV Park in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

Lots to do in Newport bay side and old Nye beach. Original Mo's seafood resturant. Aquarium is top notch. South Beach Fish Market is very good. Fishtails Cafe is good for lunch and breakfast. M&P Thai food Excellant. Great farmers market on Sat am. Fred Meyer, Walmart, Walgreens in town plus grocery outlet has good deals.

Dirty and dusty, very tight spaces. Trim a few trees and pave the road to keep the dust down and this would be a good park because of proximity to Newport and the ocean beaches. We were fortunate to be able to move to a more open site after the first night. We camped at Thousand Trails - Whalers Rest RV Park in a Motorhome.

Staff was very helpful and suggested an open pull thru site reserved for rigs over 38 feet during peak season. Appreciated sites reserved for rigs over 38 feet as many of the sites are short and narrow. There is a walking path from park to highway 101 and state park ocean beach just across highway 101. Indoor pool was nice and good store on site. North part of park had good WIFI and you could purchase cable with over 100 channels. Lots of trees and shade on most sites. No Verizon phone or data service. Roads were one way and gravel which created lots of dust. We would return to this park. We camped at Thousand Trails - Whalers Rest RV Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Very disappointed in this park. Sites are narrow and crowded by trees and shrubs on three sides. Lots of pruning needs to be done. There are a lot of trees that should be cut down because they are a lot that are dead or dying! Need to do this before there is a tragedy! Also the roads are dirt with some stones that are smashed down in the dirt. This makes for a very dust place when dry and a mud bog when wet. It was dry while we were there and we didn't grill outside due to the dust that billowed up and engulfed our site! The roads are also filled with potholes. Since the road is one way only we had to drive the entire rutted park to exit! We will not be staying here again. We camped at Thousand Trails - Whalers Rest RV Park in a Fifth Wheel.

The park shows some nice upgrades since our last stay here. The pool is looking very nice and the North campground has an excellent WIFi package. The cable TV (which costs extra) offers 125 channels. They give you a list of sites that shows which ones support roof or tripod satellite options. Even though it is before the summer season, the park is pretty full so definitely plan to make reservations as far in advance as you can. There is a nice trail from the south campground to the beach, but you have to cross hwy 101. Great location for exploring the central Oregon coast. We only stayed two nights and the one day we had here we drove in to Albany, OR to visit Silverleaf Electronics (great trip for that!). The ranger gave us a list of all the site lengths and whether they had a firepit and satellite availability (rooftop or tripod) - very handy - AND they recommended a site that they knew was open that we would fit into. We parked in the part that is north of the road which meant we had to traverse through the whole south side (or we could have tried to unhook and back up, but that probably would have been challenging). The site we were directed to just barely fit our 43' rig, and though it was classified as a pullthru, we elected not to pull out of it when leaving as there was a bit of a ditch pulling onto the road in front and we were concerned we would drag front or back. We camped at Thousand Trails - Whalers Rest RV Park in a Motorhome.

We really enjoyed our stay! When we first checked in the nice man working in the booth directed us to a site for rigs larger than 38 feet. We really appreciated that since we are 41 feet. We loved our site! We also loved the indoor pool and hot tub and the activities like a magic show and candy bar bingo. One lady employee wasn't very friendly and asked us more than once why we were in a site for rigs larger than 38 feet. I don't know why she kept asking us this, if she just looked at our rig I think it's pretty clear we are larger than 38 feet. She also wasn't very friendly when I needed to pick up a package, but I was very thankful to the other lady employee that helped me instead. Anyway, we loved our time there and were not too bothered by the not so friendly employee. Verizon data does not work there at all, but with a booster we were able to use talk and text only. However, AT&T data worked very well. We camped at Thousand Trails - Whalers Rest RV Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Like many of the sites, the site we parked the rv on, was a concrete pad and nice and level. Most sites are very spacious, the restrooms were clean. Cell signal is a problem: I had none. Most people I talked to had none. I know of one person with Verizon that said she could get a signal, in a common area, up on a hill, in the section north of the road. Even though the Newport area had seen rain for the first four plus months, this RV Resort didn't have too bad roads. Some of the sites were a bit muddy but that can't be held against the facility. The staff was super friendly and bent over backward to be helpful. The pool and the jacuzzi were spotless as were all the bathrooms that we saw on the grounds. Same for the laundry and the clubhouses. The miniature golf area could use a coat of paint but I imagine it is on their 'punch-list' before the season heats up. Larger RV's (35 ft +) might have problems navigating the road inside this facility especially if the have a vehicle in tow. We camped at Thousand Trails - Whalers Rest RV Park in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

Newport which is eight miles away has many stores, places to eat and drinks as well as cultural events especially in the Summer and Fall. Small venues which host music of some type every night. Someone turned us on to a Facebook page named "NEWPORT ROCKS!" which is updated with current events daily.

I had a bad review of this park and was pleasantly surprised on how wrong the review was. Employees were extremely friendly and helpful. Such a pleasure to deal with. So many activities for adults and kids. Sites varied on size. Great park! We camped at Thousand Trails - Whalers Rest RV Park in a Motorhome.

Staff could really care less about your being there. Had made reservations with park, online, with type / size of RV. Upon arrival and at gate, handed a park map and told to "go find a site". So - drove around and saw a few open so picked the best of the worst. After getting into the very narrow site, first thing that happened was stepping in piles of dog crap. Obviously, cleaning the park was not high on the agenda. Site was trashy, park was trashy, The onsite "store" and "community center" was rarely open and when was on limited hours. Park had a lot of live in residents who appeared to have staked out their property lines. Very disappointed in the park - nothing like photos and write ups that appeared on line. Our stay was in the summer (review won't let me select the month) and had planned on 3 nights. Left after the 1 st night. Will not return to this park. Newport was about it, and not much there. Went to get some fresh seafood and was hard to find any. Strange, as it is a fishing harbor and the timing was July/August.

This is a membership park and run a little differently than what we are use to. We did have a reservation but found out we did not have a site assigned. We checked in and the ranger was not very welcoming. Handed us a sheet and told us to drive in and find a site, there are plenty to choose from, pick one, fill out the sheet, and return it to him. Well, not very many sites were left, especially ones that would fit our 5th wheel. We chose one that was dug into a hill just wide and long enough for the camper. Really tight.
We also had rain one night, mud all over the place. Not a place that we would go to again, let alone become members of. We camped at Thousand Trails - Whalers Rest RV Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Overall an enjoyable park to stay in with pool, hot tub, shuffleboard, horse shoes, etc. Great location and nice concrete pads with cable, but most are tightly packed together and the road is tight to maneuver into spots.

The park itself is split into 2 divided by SE 123rd Street. You check in on the South Side where they give you a map with all the sites including length and satellite access. The South side of the Park is a long one-way road with camping spots on either side dumping out onto 123rd a bit farther East. The South Side of the Park has a dog run, Frisbee golf, family lounge, pool, hot tub (small), horse shoes, and beach access.

You can cross the street where the one-way ends, to enter the North side where there are several more spots and an adult lounge with shuffleboard and tv. We camped at Thousand Trails - Whalers Rest RV Park in a Motorhome.

DO NOT STAY HERE!! Pictures taken at Whalers Rest, Newport Oregon, a Thousand Trails RV Park. This is RAW sewage on the ground. You can see the site next to you. Has a septic line right by your front door. NO way to sit out in the extra small postage stamp of grass with the smell of septic. We complained 2 days straight, on the 3rd day I went to the office to see the manager. Upon my open complaint of "crap" in the yard, we were asked to leave for cursing at the staff. We are reporting to Health Department. We were leaving the next morning, but with this event demanded a full refund which they gave us.

There is NO WiFi at this park unless you want to go sit in their club house computer room. The cable TV that hardly worked was $3.00 a day extra. No cell phone service. The pool had crabs, my husband took out two crab shells, legs and claws. The walk around the indoor pool was narrow and slippery, dangerous for young children. The hot tub seats 4 people & had an odor. Playground was in poor condition. Many unkept trailers, Looks like they've been parked for years.
