We scheduled 5 nights at SFSP but only stayed for 3 because of the rain which isn't uncommon in that area, but still not enjoyable hiking weather for us. It was though, and has in the past been, a fabulous park to visit. Most sites have good separation and privacy under tall firs and pines.

The main attraction for us is the hiking which is awesome. No ota television if interested, though a few sites work well for satellite. For satellite the best sites are 40 and 42 on north end of B loop, or the wide open sites at the south end, though they're not quite as deep as the others.

One of the host couples on the past visit were not the friendliest, but that's uncommon as they usually are great at most Oregon State Parks. No real need to talk to them anyway though, just pull in and enjoy.

The sites have no sewer hookups and the dump station is 3 miles to the north. It opens at 9 am till about 6 pm (I think, not positive), so it's not a big deal but something to keep in mind. We camped at Silver Falls State Park in a Travel Trailer.

Tips for other Campers:

There are several small towns roughly 15 miles away including Silverton to the north, and Sublimity and Dayton to the South, and Salem is about 20 miles SW to lots of shopping and eats, another 5 miles or more to the town center and state capitol.

Beautiful park - there is a reason this is called the 'Crown Jewel of Oregon State Parks'. Excellent site separation, good working utilities, friendly hosts and rangers. Sites are level asphalt. Absolutely NO cell coverage here. Baths and showers were mostly clean, however lots of families and tent campers stay here thus the facilities get heavy use. More frequent cleaning could compensate for the heavy usage. We camped at Silver Falls State Park in a Motorhome.

This is one of the jewels of the Oregon State Park system, which is one of the finest state park systems in the U.S. Silver Creek SP has 10 waterfalls with great hiking trails. This was proposed as a National Park in the 1920's but was rejected because it had been logged and there were stumps everywhere. Almost 100 years has taken care of that and today you would never know it had been logged.

We stayed in a fairly open site (we like sun, especially in Oregon) near the facilities. Sites pretty much average for Oregon SPs which means pretty spacious. Facilities were perfectly maintained. We camped at Silver Falls State Park in a Travel Trailer.

Tips for other Campers:

There are two great trails here: a 6-mile loop that passes by (and behind) seven water falls; and a 9-mile loops that passes by 10. We took the 6-mile loop which was spectacular.

This was a major CCC project during the project when the great trails were built, along with a nice lodge.

Beautiful campground, well laid out, with electric and water, no sewer. Dump station is 2 miles down the road by group camping, which doesn't make sense because no one was down there but the campground was full so the dump station should be in the campground. There are 10 waterfalls, all of which can be seen on a 8.7 mile hike called the Trail of Ten Falls. Three of the largest falls are a short hike from parking areas, you can even walk behind them. There is a nice day-use area and historical buildings in the park. There is no road noise and no trains nearby. Antenna service is minimal, we have an HD antenna and only picked up Fox. AT&T signal had 5 bars. I have no idea where this strong of a signal was coming from but it was reliable and consistent for hotspot and streaming use. Nearest towns are Silverton at 15 miles, Sublimity at about 15 miles, and Salem at 25 miles, which is a very nice, clean, charming Capitol city. We camped at Silver Falls State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

We stayed two nights which was not enough to enjoy all this park had to offer. Our site was very private, level and easy to access. The entire park is beautiful. The drive in through Christmas tree country was nice and not a bad pull. We were in site 36B. We camped at Silver Falls State Park in a Travel Trailer.

We rode our bikes from the campground to the bike loop. The beginning part is a bit steep but once you make the loop it evens out. Was a fun ride.

Stayed for 3 nights in a 39 foot fifth wheel. Large park, great location for hiking and exploring the 10 plus waterfalls in the park. Beautiful park and you can go behind some of the waterfalls. Very neat. Only downside was that the dump station for the park is in the group area and is on a slant. Tanks barely drained. Also good location to explore the towns of Salem and Silverton. We camped at Silver Falls State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

This a great family park. Lots of hikes to take, bike trails and there is a horse camping area as well. Staying at the campground includes use of the day use area as well. 10 water falls to see and the trail goes behind some of them. The park has some historical buildings as well. Lots of volunteers and support from citizens it seems as the maintenance is pretty up to date. Some sites are large enough for larger coaches. There is no phone service or WiFi available. If you need either you'll have to drive to the town of Silverton, about 15 miles away. We camped at Silver Falls State Park in a Travel Trailer.

Hiking, biking and just plain relaxing. If you need to dump your tanks it's about a 3 mile drive to the group site. Included with your paid camp site though.

Very spacious sites with good separation. Water, electric on site with dump at group camp about 3 miles North. Lots of great hiking and programs run by Friends of Silver Falls. Lots of openings mid week but fills on weekends. A real treasure in the area. We will return. "A" loop is has lots of trees and shade with many of the sites tents only. "B" loop works very well for RVs. More open and sun. We camped at Silver Falls State Park in a Motorhome.

What a gem! One of the nicest State Parks we have stayed at so far in our travels. Very spacious sites, with privacy, water, and electricity. Back in sites accommodated our 31 footer just fine. Friendly hosts and firewood was only $6 for a wheelbarrow full - a treat. They also provided a fire starter for $1 which worked fine. 4 Waterfalls were easy hikes for us, and we are not hikers. Went to South Falls, North Falls, Upper North falls, and Winter Falls. Definitely would return here again. We camped at Silver Falls State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Over all great, especially for kids. Marked down because sorely needs a additional dump station. Only one available three miles away at group campsites and crowded even at midweek. Playground and ranger programs great. However, most programs and swimming area .6 miles from RV sites so if no towed vehicle a pretty good hike for little ones. Walking under waterfall cool. Nice state park with awesome hiking opportunities. We enjoyed a weekend here, the sites are well spaced. We had absolutely no Verizon or Sprint coverage here, AT&T was our only working phone. Getting to this park takes patience, Hwy 214 going into and out of the park is a windy, twisty road for a large rig so patience is needed. We camped at Silver Falls State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Silver Falls State Park is really a destination featuring beautiful hikes and waterfalls; in most cases not a place for an overnight stay. We had great difficulty backing our 40 foot RV into our assigned spot. It was to such a degree that the campground hosts took pity on us and assigned us to an "emergency" site which was extra wide and had 50 amp plus full sewer hook-up. This is a beautiful well kept park. Most sites do not have sewer hookups. Verizon telephone and Wi-Fi service is unavailable. I doubt if satellite TV would be available in most spots. If I were assured my RV would fit, I would come here again. We camped at Silver Falls State Park in a Motorhome.

Stayed at Silver Falls for 2 nights and had a great time. Site was large w/ enough room for picnic and fires. Play structures were available. Restrooms/showers were immaculate. Close enough to Salem. Great hiking all around. Hosts were great. Wood was plentiful and cheap. Tent sites were very close to each other, but trailer sites were fine. We camped at Silver Falls State Park in a Travel Trailer.

Date of Stay: December, 2012 - $20.00
Overall Rating:

This is a wonderful state park, essentially at National Park quality. The waterfalls are wonderful. Some require some hiking, but not a lot of difficult hiking. In December, with lots of rain, the waterfalls were flowing at a maximum, so quite nice. The campground is nice, not wonderful. The positives are that most of the sites have privacy because of the vegetation. It is in a pleasant setting and close to the main features of the park. When we were there, the only sites open were in the "B" loop and about half of these sites had the water off. The negatives are that the campground is close to the highway going through the park and the logging trucks start at four in the morning. They use their Jake Brakes, and they make a lot of noise. It was not a major problem in the winter with windows closed, but in the summer with windows open, it would be quite annoying. They have only 30 amps hookups, but the power level seemed to be quite good, even though the power outlets looked dated. As noted, the water was off on many of the sites when we were there. The dump station is very inconvenient. It is in the group campground about 5 miles away. There are gray water dumps in the campground which could be used. No Verizon service. Satellite is available in only a few sites because of tree cover. Although the park is not too far away from a town, it has the feeling of being very remote. There are very nice hiking trails. The biking trails are OK, but when we were there they were covered with vegetation. All of this is worth it to see and hike this wonderful state park. Good work Oregon. We will definitely try to visit this park again. We camped at Silver Falls State Park in a Motorhome.

One of the best of Oregon's parks. Great falls to hike to and bike path as well. Hint: The lower numbered loop is more open for sun if you're making reservations online. We camped at Silver Falls State Park in a Motorhome.
