We rolled in late on a Monday evening without reservations. The Ranger told us they only had 1 site left (Handicaped for a <30' trailer. He told us to go look at it and decide if we could make it work for our 32". We looked at the site and found it spacious enough for our trailer. The staff here was great. We were only there one night but did enjoy walking the trails net to the falls. This is a great destination. We camped at Tahquamenon Falls State Park in a Travel Trailer.

It had rained a lot the week prior so the bugs were BAD. Lots are mostly shady. Site surface was dirt and grass. Had a fire ring and picnic table. We camped at Tahquamenon Falls State Park in a Travel Trailer.

Yet another great Michigan State Park. Perfectly situated for hikes to both Lower and Upper Tahquamenon Falls. Our site was not satellite-friendly, and I believe that is the case overall. We camped at Tahquamenon Falls State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

We spent 2 nights in two different campgrounds in park. All sites are power only. We had wanted to stay in the Portage section both nights but when we arrived the staff informed us that power was off in that section due to a storm the night before. They allowed us to drive thru the lower falls campground and pick a spot. This campground was nice but a further walk to the falls. We visited lighthouse and museum at Whitefish point the next day and when we returned were able to spend the second night in the portage campground. We like this one best because it was an easy walk to the falls. Would stay here again if in the area. We camped at Tahquamenon Falls State Park in a Motorhome.

We arrived late afternoon on a Sunday in Sept after spending time at the Great Lakes Shipwreck Museum about 15 miles away. We'd read about the Lower Falls campgrounds of Portage and Hemlock that provide electric, no water but with a dump station, and hoped we'd get a site. Not to worry. While Portage was nearly full, being nearer to the Lower Falls and more popular, Hemlock had plenty of open spots. On arrival, since we were out of state, we paid $31 for a state park passport which allowed us also to camp since we hoped to find other state camping spots within the next week. Normal overnight is $23. We parked in Hemlock #155 with 30 amp service. We're only 25 feet so backing in to this shorter site right across from the showers and toilets was easy and ideal. We haven't seen electric provided in a state park before so this was a luxury. The toilets were very clean and well kept. The showers have curtains with a separate changing area from the shower. The sites have large fire rings and well maintained picnic tables. While the sites are somewhat close, they were plenty big enough for slide outs and privacy. The campground is wooded and shady. No over the air TV to be had, of course. No wi-fi but we had some Verizon strength. The rangers are kind and very helpful. There aren't any printed rules provided on check in with quiet hours information and such but we assumed typical quiet hours and rules pertained. The pads are level gravel and grass and the roads are paved. This is really quite a pleasant place, quiet and worth the stopover, if there is space open. I'm sure this is a popular Summer destination in this area. We camped at Tahquamenon Falls State Park in a Motorhome.

Visit shipwreck museum and lighthouse, spend time on the trails and see the falls in the area. Just make sure you fill up your gas/diesel when you see it as there aren't many stations to be found in the area.

Quiet campground in the woods; very close to the Lower Falls. Electric, Dump Station, water available at Dump. Good paved interior roads, roomy, level, dirt/grass sites with plenty of shade. Great place to walk my dogs, and they loved watching the little red squirrels and chipmunks scurrying around. We stayed in Hemlock Campground, Site #146 - a long pull-through. We would stay here again. We camped at Tahquamenon Falls State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Clean campground, very quiet during quiet hours! Short walk to Lower Falls, beautiful! Rent a paddle boat to see the Falls up close, wear water shoes, swim wear, splash, wade, go under the Falls! Safe and so fun. On way back, stop at concession for delicious icecream and a souvenir. Go 4 miles to the grand Upper Falls. Closest grocery is about 30 miles south, not much going on in sleepy Paradise, plenty at camp ground. We camped at Tahquamenon Falls State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

This park has more than one campground and the reviews should be separated. This review is for the Rivermouth Campground.
You are required to buy a membership in the state park system for each vehicle. We got the annual membership at $31. We have a tow vehicle so that was $62.

There are only two sites at Rivermouth for big rigs. These sites are asphalt, pretty large, no water no sewer no satellite lock no OTA no wifi, but did have good 50amp.

Nice site with lots of trees and good fishing. We camped at Tahquamenon Falls State Park in a Motorhome.

We were looking for a campground that would allow us easy access to hiking trails around the Tahquamenon Falls area. We're self-contained and don't use the facilities except for an occasional shower. We camped here on weekdays in July.

There are 2 campgrounds at the lower falls - Hemlock and Portage. Both are convenient to the falls and hiking. We stayed at Hemlock. This is a nice campground. The staff was friendly and helpful. There was a variety of sites - sun, shade, short and wide, long and narrow, level and not. Sites are electric only and there's a convenient dump and water station. There's no WiFi. There's no AT&T coverage. There was a usable Verizon signal. We camped at Tahquamenon Falls State Park in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

The lower falls were 1.5 miles from our campsite on the road and .6 miles via trail. The upper falls were 4 miles (one way) via road or trail from the campsite. The trails were well maintained and marked. There's a brew pub and gift shop at the upper falls.

My family had a very positive camping experience at Taquamenon Falls State Park. We stayed in the Lower Falls at the Portage Campground in site 50. Our camp site was a pull through and we had no problems getting in or out. There was a playground for my children to enjoy very close to our site and the bathrooms were also very close by. The walk to the Lower Falls was less than 5 minutes. There was a gift shop and cafe very close the the Falls. There is a trail to walk to the Upper Falls, but it is about a 5 mile hike from the Lower Falls, so be aware of that. You can also drive to the Upper Falls, but will still need to walk about half a mile to get to the stairs going down to the Falls. There are almost 100 steps which was exhausting for my young child. However, the view is spectacular and worth the effort. This is a Michigan State Park, so an annual pass is required for entry to the campgrounds. We camped at Tahquamenon Falls State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

The Lower Falls Campground was fairly crowded when we were there. Nice bathhouse (toilets/showers) were heavily used (and sometimes by sloppy people!). Many very nice sites - level, easy access, a few pull-throughs, and excellent fire-pits and tables. Hiking to the Falls was enjoyable. Naturalist tour was informative. Check the Fish House restaurant in Paradise - They open at noon ONLY if they have fish caught that morning to serve. Moderately priced, very good fish & fries. Then drive up to Ship Wreck Museum (Whitebridge). Admission was expensive, it felt like a "tourist trap", but it was fun to go and see. Campground was an ideal base for these side trips. We camped at Tahquamenon Falls State Park in a Motorhome.

This is in a very wooded section of the wilderness around the falls on the Tahquamenon River. The park is divided into four camp areas, two around the upper falls and two around the lower falls. Some of the sites are very short and some of them are pull thru to handle longer rigs, be sure to check the site specs on the web site. Camp areas are somewhat level with gravel, dirt, and some grass. Reservations are made thru the Michigan DNR site, not Reserve America. There is very limited cell service in the area and way too many trees for satellite reception, the perfect place to get away and disconnect. The park and area is beautiful with lots of trails to hike and things to see. We camped at Tahquamenon Falls State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Rate includes annual state parks pass for RV and tow vehicle for 4 days. Very nice location in woods and on river. We stayed in Rivermouth - modern (electric) area. Kayaking available on the river. The only reason this is a 5 is because it does not have water hookup or sewer although there is a fill and dump station on way in/out. We had 50 amp electric, which was good and a large site plenty of room for RV and slide outs. Satellite on roof did not come in. Verizon reception was good for phone and Wi-Fi. Picnic table and huge (deep) fire pit. Good interior paved roads a little narrow but no problem with 39' RV and towed. Restrooms were new and in good shape with private shower rooms. This is a remote area with only 3 small convenience stores with limited essentials so come prepared. We camped at Tahquamenon Falls State Park in a Motorhome.
