We decided to stay at this park for the remainder of the summer mainly due to how helpful & kind the hosts are. Grounds are clean and well kept. The view of the river and surrounding hills is spectacular.

While other reviews complain about the 'dog' area being lush green and RV areas being parched this is due to the owners practicing water conservation. The 'dog' area is located in the marsh area so it gets water from the river. No signs of dog poop. Bags provided and no extra cost for dogs.

Overall great place, great value and very quiet. We would definitely come back here. We camped at Chinook RV Park in a Travel Trailer.

We spent a week at this park a year ago and enjoyed the experience so much that we came back this year for a month. We will not return. We have always flown the US flag at the rear of our 5th wheel but at this park, this year, the owner became very angry and told us that we could take the flag down or he would throw us out. He told us that he was concerned about what people would think if they saw the US flag on an RV in his park. This came a few hours after we paid $500 for the month. No refund, of course. Last year it was no problem. Same flag, same flagpole, same attachment to the 5th wheel. Bad experience! The rate reflects a monthly rate. We camped at Chinook RV Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Tips for other Campers:

There is a great Chinese restaurant in Waldport. Great food, fast, friendly service.

The setting along the tree-lined river is pretty, but I guess I'm not as enamored as the other reviewers with the park in general. I suspect the reason for the higher ratings by many folks is for the off-leash dog area away from the RV sites along the river, where some dogs run around pooping while owners are MIA. When we arrived, we were directed to our site, but there was no way we could maneuver into the site with our 37' 5th wheel. A neighbor came out and suggested we either ask the host to move his motorhome across from our site, or leave the park, go turn around in a parking lot down the road and enter from the other direction, backing in on our blindside instead, as he did. We did finally leave and re-enter and got into the site. Sites are wide enough and long enough, gravel and grass, but interior dirt/gravel roads and other adjacent sites make it difficult to maneuver. Utilities are well placed and work well, cable is clear with 40 channels. Wi-Fi was ok sometimes, but slow or non-existent at others. Park is on Hwy 34, so road noise is evident but not intolerable. It is 3 miles from downtown and the coast, so it is away from all that hubbub, which is good. Restrooms and showers were clean and maintained regularly; not sure how much time is spent on exterior grounds. The priority here is the dog area/fire pit area near the river. Having said all that, it was a good choice for us for our stay in the area. We camped at Chinook RV Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Stayed here last July and came back for two months this year (July and August). We like the people who own the park and the fact it is 3 miles from the beach so don't get the fog. Views down by the water are great.
Wifi is ok most of the time, depending on how full the campground is.
Great power (50amp) water pressure is ok and sewer is fine. Didn't use the cable as we have satellite. Will stay here again next year as it is out of the hustle and bustle of Newport. Close enough to beaches for us. Good supermarket in Waldport also. WalMart is in Newport. We camped at Chinook RV Park in a Motorhome.

We stayed at Chinook RV park for a week while exploring the central Oregon coast. It was a convenient location for doing this and we enjoyed our stay. There are many good things about this park but I think it has been overrated by previous reviewers. By far, the best amenity of this park is the "dog run" area by the river. This is the area pictured on their website; not the camping area which, unfortunately, is just a large, treeless field. Having said that, the sites are pretty large with two gravel areas; one for the RV and the other for the tow vehicle. And there is a nice grassy area separating the rows. The restrooms are spotless and the laundry area has one of my favorite features a "take a book, leave a book" library. Cable was good as was cell coverage but I had trouble logging into the WiFi. Before booking this park, I would recommend looking at the satellite view on Google to get a truer picture of it. We camped at Chinook RV Park in a Travel Trailer.

Very nice owners and very welcoming. Park is dated but well kept and in a very handy location for this section of the coast, about 3 miles off 101 and out of the coastal winds and fog. Very nice dog area for off leash, only it is not fenced. A dog friendly park for sure. All in all a very nice place to stay in this area, close to Waldport, Yachats, Newport. We enjoyed our stay and would recommend this park. Beautiful water views and sunsets. We camped at Chinook RV Park in a Travel Trailer.

Tips for other Campers:

Very good Chinese restaurant in Waldport, and the local Golf Course has a very good restaurant as well.

Beautiful small park about 3 miles inland from Waldport up Hwy 34 right on the Alsea River estuary with a small park-like area covering about 100 yards of waterfront. Blue herons, eagles and numerous other birds frequent the area and occasional elk can be seen on the opposite side of the Alsea. Owners live on site and are extremely friendly and helpful. Great base camp for exploring the entire central Oregon coast from Bandon to Tillamook. Just over an hour to the Willamette Valley at Corvalis. We stayed for a month and found plenty to fill our time. We camped at Chinook RV Park in a Motorhome.

Was just going to stay for one month, but extended our stay for a second month. Park is old but fairly well kept. Owners very friendly and spaces are adequate for our 40 foot bus. Sites are level with gravel base. WiFi is OK most of the time. If the park is full sometimes it drops out and we use or Verizon as backup. Speed is good, tho. We have indoor cats so didn't use the dog run down by the water. Good views of river down there. Will stay here again next year when passing thru. We camped at Chinook RV Park in a Motorhome.

Very friendly owners ensured we had a pleasant stay here. This a dog friendly park & is very clean. Road noise during the day yet very quiet at night. Enjoyed seeing the eagles & elk down by the river. ATT cell service worked here but data was a bit slow but not bad enough to complain about. 60 channels on clear cable service. Rate reflects monthly rate. We are coming back next month! We camped at Chinook RV Park in a Fifth Wheel.

New owners have this place very clean and well maintained. A friendly setting for pets with a huge play area. The sites are large with separate driveways for RV and car, and a small grass area with table. The laundry room is clean with iron and board, and a book exchange. There are fire pits and seating in the well mowed area by the riverside. We enjoyed an evening with a nice fire in the large block fire pit. We really enjoyed this quiet and friendly park just a couple of miles off the 101. We camped at Chinook RV Park in a Motorhome.

This is an older homey campground, designed when RVs didn't have slideouts. The spacing is adequate, but the picnic table can be closer to the sewer hose than you are used to when parked. All sites are perpendicular to the horseshoe parking lot. We had no problem parking even when the truck next to our site did not move. The owner came out as we drove in and advised us of our site number. She said her husband would come out to help park us if needed. As we checked cell coverage, he came over to the site with our mail and literature about the park. When we checked the cell signal, it was marginal. While I checked with the owners before booking about cell coverage, we noticed there were disclaimers on their literature. We work from our rig. When we logged in the next day, there were issues. We found out the cell service is supported by the local phone company for the coastal region, and others who depended on reliable signal were frequently challenged at this park. We had to leave the park the next day after planning to stay for one month. Their monthly rate is $360 with a $60/deposit for electricity. You are responsible for your electricity costs. The power was clean with 50 amp service. If cell coverage is important to you, be aware this area of the state is coming up to speed, and you will very likely experience speed/connectivity issues. Overall, the park was in good shape and acceptable. They have a lovely walk down to the river with a two acre dog run where your dogs can run off leash. It's a very nice location, and when we retire and leave all this technology behind, we hope to stay here again. We camped at Chinook RV Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Nice surprise. We were there Friday of a long weekend, and expected most campgrounds to be busy and noisy, but not so here. Very quiet. New owners were very friendly and helped us into our site. Laundry and washrooms were very clean. Wi-Fi was excellent, and there was a nice walking path down to the river. The road was somewhat busy through the day, but was quiet at night. We will be sure to stay here again when travlling the coast. We camped at Chinook RV Park in a Motorhome.

Very nice little RV park, great Wi-Fi and cable. Spotless laundry room and washrooms, even have a hair dryer in the washroom! New owners were very friendly and helpful. A wonderful off leash area for the dogs to play or take a dip in the water! Would definitely stay here again. Sites are gravel with a concrete pad, seems like all new services. Sites were level. There is nothing better than being greeted warmly by the owners of a RV park the minute that you pull into it. On-site owner/operators usually mean that you automatically become their responsibility to ensure that your visit is a pleasant one, and it certainly was here for us. This park is located out of town a few miles up the river which means that it is much quieter here than other parks that are located right on busy Hwy. 101. This is a very pet friendly park with an excellent area down by the river for Rover to get some exercise! We will always stay here when in the area. We camped at Chinook RV Park in a Fifth Wheel.
