We use this state park every year to attend 2 Penn State Football games. Park works out real nice for us. It is close to Route 80. The sites are asphalt back in's. They have a picnic table and fire ring. This park is very clean and well maintained. It has hiking trails, nice lake, boat ramps and plenty of roads to ride bikes. We camped at Bald Eagle State Park in a Motorhome.

Overall Rating:

Stayed five nights in the modern campground on Sycamore (the pet friendly loop) - This is a very modern campground. Very little tree cover, but very well maintained sites with leveled concrete. Easy to back in to. Sites are very close together. If I came back I would try to book sites: M083, M082, Mo80. I liked that they were tucked back into the woods with a few trees (trees are probably not your thing if you have a HUGE rig but for my little 20 foot motorhome, I prefer it). Bathrooms are old but clean and heated. Campground is not near the lake but it is an easy drive/hike. Beautiful park. Lots to see. Really easy roads to get here. Walmart is only 10 minutes away if you need anything! We camped at Bald Eagle State Park in a Motorhome.

We stayed for a week. There were different sections and a mix of sites in terms of length and how level. Our site was basically level with trees behind and on the side. Quiet campground with places to ride bikes. Beach area and marina accessible by bike. We would return to this campground if we were in the area. We camped at Bald Eagle State Park in a Motorhome.

Excellent layout. The sites were easy to back in to without driving on the grass. The park was very well maintained. There was plenty of room between campsites. The main attraction appears to be the large reservoir in the middle of the park. It attracts many people for fishing. We camped at Bald Eagle State Park in a Travel Trailer.

Overall Rating:

Beautiful part of PA and nice park for boating, fishing, swimming, etc. Campground not right on the lake, but nice trails or easy drive will get you there. Staff member kindly showed me a good place for a.m. walk to see where they have a resident eagle pair raising their eaglet and giving it fishing lessons. Not much shade in the campground since trees aren't tall, but give them a few years and that will improve. Grounds kept very clean and trim, with all sites paved and nice gravel area for fire ring and picnic table. Most sites pretty level, some will take a little more effort to get there. Campground loops (one for pets, one for no pets) are on a slope, and if you stay at the higher elevation (the sites with the higher numbers of each loop are higher up), you can pick up 6-8 OTA TV signals. Verizon signal good. Only downside is the price, but that goes for all PA state parks (29.50 weekday for non-resident, pet loop, electric only plus additional $4 for weekend nights, then add a $5 transaction fee at check in brought my single Sunday night stay up to nearly $35.00). We camped at Bald Eagle State Park in a Motorhome.

Overall Rating:

Campground: This review is for the "modern" camping area, not the rustic one on other side of lake. Stayed here in the pet loop (Sycamore Loop) in a 33-foot long fifth wheel. Nice easy access on paved roads. Sites are paved, and most are fairly level. All RV sites are back-in and generally have decent room to maneuver. Good spacing between sites, with scattering of small young trees, reflective of somewhat new nature of the "modern" campground. No real shade as result, so this place may bake in hot summer. Scored one of the few 50A, full hook-up sites, which was fine for my size unit, but don't think any of the full hook-up sites will take anything much longer than 35 feet. Had impression that very few back-in sites would take much bigger rigs either. Bathroom facility very nice and clean, saw it was cleaned daily. Has good hot showers and water pressure, and bathroom itself was heated. Only very minor downside is that you can hear traffic out on Rt 150 faintly. Saw that sites with no hook-ups on lake side of Sycamore loop are subject to flooding when Army Corps needs to hold back water in lake due to heavy area rains, which was case when we were there. Hopefully they coordinated that with the on-line reservation system. Firewood was available from camp hosts, but did not see much around elsewhere anywhere near park, but could be because we were there before main season. Decent amount of guest parking available, with short walk. Park maintenance staff was great- the 50A breaker on our stand was dead, and after getting word to park via hosts, they came and replaced it next day. Sites have picnic table and fire ring. No camp store or laundry. We would definitely stay here again! Park: Have several very nice trails, highlights for us were Butterfly Loop, and the Lakeside loop on other side of lake starting in the rustic campground. Good place for birding and biking, in addition to fishing. We camped at Bald Eagle State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Tips for other Campers:

Not a whole lot of attractions (for us) in surrounding area, other than anyone with interests at Penn State. Rothrock Forest down near State College has great hiking trails though!

Nice state park located on a lake with a beach and marina. Lots of hiking trails. You can ride bicycles around the park roads for several miles without leaving the park. We kayaked in the lake (very little boat traffic during the week). Site was level but it took some tight turns to back into the site with our 43 ft motorhome. FHU's worked well. We had a decent AT&T signal in the park. Sites are well spaced so there is plenty of rooms between sites. We camped at Bald Eagle State Park in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

Visit Penn State University in State College PA to see the Arboretum and the Palmer Museum on campus. Both of these are worth visiting. No grocery stores close to campground, so pick up groceries before arriving.

Super friendly and helpful staff at check in and camp hosts were always present and keeping the park clean, waving as they passed by. Beautiful and private site. Great trails and dog friendly. People really seem to clean up after their pets too. Can't wait to go back! We camped at Bald Eagle State Park in a Motorhome.

The sites at this state park are awesome. They are large and flat and taken care of very nicely. However, most of them do not have shade. They are in full sun. The bathrooms are very nice, and typically clean.

We have been to this campground twice and the bugs have been relentless each time. This isn't the fault of the park, but something to note.

The beach on the lake was very well kept but a drive from the campground.

We have been very happy with the campground both times we have been there. We camped at Bald Eagle State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Stayed at this park for one night on July 16, 2015 in our 35 foot RV. It's a very nice park with nice facilities and beautiful views of the Pennsylvania hills. Easy access to the lake with opportunities for swimming, fishing, and other family entertainment. Also found opportunities for a little bicycle riding, exploring the different sections of the campground. The bathrooms were not in the best of shape, but we have seen worse. We would definitely stay at this park again. We camped at Bald Eagle State Park in a Motorhome.

Still well-kept. Park lists 35-foot max but most sites will handle 40+. Might have to park tow/towed in guest parking area. Angled access and roadside posts make some sites difficult to enter. Paved roads allow easy access to any size vehicle. We camped at Bald Eagle State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Beautiful park to visit if you love nature or being on the water. Saw a great variety of wildlife there as they have bald eagles and many birds that come to this unique geographical location during migration. Highly recommend visiting this gem. We camped at Bald Eagle State Park in a Motorhome.

Stayed here for an over night stop. CG was not crowded and self-service since we arrived after the office closed. The rate is non-resident senior. Site was good, and the bath house OK. We drove around the park and it seemed like a nice place to camp. We would return for another camping experience. We camped at Bald Eagle State Park in a Tent Trailer.

This is a well built and maintained campground with lots of facilities for entertainment and recreation. The hiking trails are nice and can be used by bicycles. The office staff was friendly and helpful. The dump station was spacious and clean. Our only complaints are the restrooms were so-so as their upkeep wasn't what it could be--floors were wet--and there is no Wi-Fi or full hookups. Cell phone service was good so we could use it for a hotspot. Rate reflects senior discount. We camped at Bald Eagle State Park in a Motorhome.

Overall Rating:

This is the second time that we have stayed in this state park. The first time was a number of years back when it was very busy. We liked the park then, although we had to leave early because of a state budget issue. Now off-season, we love this park. I think this may be the first, or almost the first, time a gave a park a 10 rating. The park is very easy to get to on very good roads. As noted, the staff is very friendly and efficient. Although our campground host might have been having a bit of an off day. The park is very well maintained with level sites. Although the paved part of the sites are a bit narrow. It is very quiet and wonderfully dark at night. We love that. I should point out that I am referring to the "modern" campground with electrical hook-ups and not the primitive sites on the other side of the lake. There are hiking trails and the park is great for bike riding. Of course in the summer there are all of the lake activities. If you are birders you will like the park as it is promoting its birding activities with on-site kiosks for e-bird. The park also has a nice new, small lodge that is very attractive. We were able to find a site with good satellite reception and our Verizon phone and Internet card worked well. We would definitely return to this park. It would be great to spend a week or so, or even longer, at this wonderful state park. Well done Pennsylvania! We camped at Bald Eagle State Park in a Motorhome.
