Lots of repeat visitors stay here regularly. Most seem to be from not too far away. A very family-oriented state park campground. Lots of kids on bikes. Some sites have trail cut-throughs not on the map (i.e. 325 White Oak). The attraction of the park is the large lake and associated boating and beaches. Campground has its own beach. Camp store is very good. We camped at Prince Gallitzin State Park in a Tent.

Date of Stay: August, 2016 - $23.00
Overall Rating:

We stayed here twice this year so far. It has become our favorite campground. It's an hour away from home. Majority of sites have only electric, but they did add 20 or so, full hook up sites last year. We've only done 2 long weekends and electric only was fine. Would want full hookup if we were here for a week.

Dump and water stations are located just as you pull in with an additional fill up station just past the camp store. We only use the centrally located bath houses to shower, but find them clean. The showers are a little hot for my taste. You cannot adjust temperature, it's just a button that turns water on.

The sites we've been on so far are so level that I didn't need any blocks what so ever, just under stabilizers. Site is a paved back in with gravel and grass around picnic table and fire ring.

Lots of trails, bike baths, and nature walks daily. Beach was hardly crowded on a hot 90 degree day. Everyone we met was very friendly.

Camp host was seen several times picking up any litter. Park Rangers constantly patrol the campground which was nice.

Store sales pretty much everything, ice, firewood, groceries, etc. They deliver the firewood to your camp site if you purchase it there.

Good fishing for kids just past the beach area. Small fish but the kids love catching fish constantly. They also have boat rentals but we found them to be pretty steep in price unless you split with a group. Pontoon rental was $200 for the day or $50/hr. If you have your own boat there is a boat launch area just for campers but you will have to park your trailer in the visitor/2nd car parking area. I did see 3 sites that have additional parking for 2nd vehicles and or a boat. There are a few rustic tent only sites along with water front cabins available for rent.

Lots of people walking or riding bikes until dusk. Once quiet time hits, all you hear is crickets. Was very quiet considering the amount of campsites. We camped at Prince Gallitzin State Park in a Travel Trailer.

Camped on July 4th week end. Big Mistake!!! The park is like the Disney World of PA State campgrounds. Every oversized diesel pick up with oversized exhaust pipes and Harley's cruising though at all hours. Speeding through. People burning their trash and making noise all night. Kids I don't mind, we have 4 grown up now but, parents still need to control them. Multitudes of pontoon boats lining the marinas. And the camper store is like 7/11 and Walmart combined. DCNR gated until after 10 then gone, wide open. Told about fireworks prohibition but 7/3 was cracking all night with no one to control. Not a park to enjoy, more like a motel parking lot at the Jersey shore. Only good thing is location to Altoona area sites and if you do have a lake boat for fishing. We camped at Prince Gallitzin State Park in a Motorhome.

Overall Rating:

Paved spurs for RVs, with space for one tow vehicle. 2nd vehicle parking available at campground entrance. Pets allowed at some sites. Amphitheater has programs for kids and adults. Beach area for swimming. Playground for kids. Boat and kayak rentals. Camp store on premises is well stocked with camper and tent supplies, firewood, ice, and food. Campsites have plenty of trees for shade and some privacy. Free WiFi. Local HDTV available with HD antenna. Bicycle obstacle course for kids. Camp hosts very helpful and easily accessible, but not intrusive. Good fishing, boating, and hiking! The Pirate's Cove has good food & ice cream, and there are other restaurants and small stores nearby in Patton or Coalport. We camped at Prince Gallitzin State Park in a Travel Trailer.

Overall Rating:

This is probably the best maintained state park campground in Pennsylvania I have stayed at. The sites were level and of a good size with lots of mature trees. They are centrally located around very clean bathhouses and very close to the lake. The camp store was one of the best stocked of any campground I have seen. The only downsides are that is it very popular and sometimes has a crowded feeling to it with lots of people on the road at all times. If you are camping with a pet you are relegated to one section of the campground, but that is how Pennsylvania state parks roll. The campground hosts/staff even came around to warn us of a severe thunderstorm warning since cell coverage is spotty at best. I would camp here again. We camped at Prince Gallitzin State Park in a Travel Trailer.

Overall Rating:

A friend of ours recommended Prince Gallitzen as it is one of their favorite places to camp with their family. We have now camped here twice and it is definitely going to be a regular spot for us. It's clean, beautiful, and plenty of rustic fun. It's a very large campground, but the lots are fairly spacious. Like all state campgrounds, it's lacking full hookups, swimming pools, and other such amenities, but it's worth the trade-offs. We camped at Prince Gallitzin State Park in a Travel Trailer.

If you are looking for a nice, quiet, family friendly campground, this is it. Campsites have plenty of room, restrooms are clean and the staff is friendly. The campground has daily activities and there is also a lake and boat rentals at the campground. The playground isn't much, just a few swings and a volleyball court, but our family loves this campground. We stay here a few times a year. We camped at Prince Gallitzin State Park in a Tent Trailer.

We have stayed here several times. It is a nice clean state park. The restrooms were very well kept. Very friendly staff. We had electric hookups but no water or sewer hookups. Filled up at park entrance dumped when leaving park. They do have a dump station. Lots of hiking and biking to do. OK camp store. They have camp hosts to help you out with any problems with the park. We will stay again. We camped at Prince Gallitzin State Park in a Travel Trailer.
