Overall Rating:

It's hard to rate this one. It's a parking lot in South Philly. Their primary business is as a park and ride for people going to the University of Pennsylvania Hospital, but there are about a dozen spaces with hookups crammed closely together on one side of the lot, and overflow parking for a bunch more. Shuttles run between the lot and the hospital 24/7. It's about a 5 minute ride to the hospital, then there are public transit connections to everywhere else (about 15-20 minutes to the tourist locations in the center of the city). Or it's a $10, 15 minute Lyft ride directly from the park to the center of town. The employees were all super friendly and helpful. Between the razor wire perimeter, bright lights, and the presence of bus drivers and other campers, it seemed safe enough. The lot has all of the basics, restrooms and showers that I never looked at (someone else said they were actually pretty good), dump station, dumpster. There's a small patch of grass by the entrance if your dog needs it. There's also a fair bit of trash around, and it's next to a train yard. Between the trains, buses, and a jerk who appears to be living in the last campsite next to the tracks with some loud motorized bike that he likes to ride around the parking lot in the evenings, it's not quiet. But it's very convenient for visiting Philly, and very cheap when compared to other big city RV parks. If you can pick your site, the ones in the front, farthest from the railroad tracks, are quietest. If I were visiting Philly again, yes, I would stay here again. But a lush state park it ain't. We camped at Campus Park & Ride in a Motorhome.

This park is Urban Camping at it's best. It is super close to all of fun and historical things to do in Philadelphia. Campus Park & Ride is essentially a commuter parking lot next to a warehouse that has electric and water connections at each site. It is a no frills place to safely connect your RV, camp and enjoy one of the best cities on the East Coast. Their staff is SUPER friendly and helpful with directions and recommendations. We camped at Campus Park & Ride in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

Campus Park & Ride is located within a major city! 1-Plan your arrival and departures around commuter traffic. 2-None of the gas stations in the area were RV friendly..make sure you fill up your tanks prior to getting on I-76. 3-Bike, Walk, Take a Shuttle or Public Transportation to get into the "touristy" part of Philadelphia. Attempting to drive your tow vehicle into Center City would cost $30-$40 to park and zap all of your patience.

This is a hard place to review because it's not really a campground. On the way you'll notice it's in what appears to be a sketchy area, but once there I felt everything was secure. It's actually a warehouse complex fenced in with chain link fence and barbed wire. A portion even has electric fence and you need a key card to enter the gate. The staff was friendly and available 24 hours a day. Each site is backed up against a loading dock and has electricity and water. The sites are concrete and level. There is an area by the office to back up to for a dump station. I didn't use the restrooms or shower but did check them out. They are nothing fancy but were clean and functional. There is a shuttle that will take you near downtown so you can catch a city bus to the Independence Square area. You call the shuttle and they come to near where they dropped you off to bring you back. The shuttle drivers are very friendly and knowledgeable about the area. The sites are close together and there is no grass or anything between sites, but you need to remember where you are and why your there. We would stay here again. We camped at Campus Park & Ride in a Fifth Wheel.

Utilitarian, but gets the job done. Sites are all concrete, back in, with 50 amp power, water, wi-Fi, cell coverage, and a clear sky for satellite (if your rig is tall enough to clear the building or you have a portable). Dog walking is tough, the only grass lines the entrance way or is outside the entrance, and it's kinda trashy. The area beyond the gate entrance is very sketchy. While they have a dump location, you must back into it and the sewer pipe is elevated, so I would skip it and dump at your next location as we did. We arrived on a Saturday when the guard shack was not staffed and had to call to be let in. We had to be let in and out of the gate by a driver the first few times until they got us a gate card. The people are friendly, and the office has detailed information on visiting Independence Hall and the other attractions and negotiating metro. The bus drivers (and bus patrons) were helpful, so we had no trouble taking the shuttle/bus combination to and from downtown. It may well be the ugliest site we have ever stayed in, but it is indeed quite close to all the major Philly attractions and it serves as an excellent base for a visit. We camped at Campus Park & Ride in a Fifth Wheel.

We stayed in a 29' class C, with a Toyota on a dolly. With tax it came to $51.50 a night. Location location location! This place has it if you want to see Philadelphia. A safe parking lot with water/elect hook ups, good over the air broadcast TV and a free shuttle into town & bus service. The bathhouse was a 5 out of 10, my wife would have scored it lower but it was a good place to take a shower. The shower was just slightly larger than the one in our RV. The spot was wide enough to park our car next to the RV & the spot was plenty long. The people were more than helpful! Good folks! We had reservations & they were ready for us. We'd stay there again. We camped at Campus Park & Ride in a Motorhome.

We drove into town on Sunday (we found free parking) and it surprising easy. The Italian Market had great deals on produce and it had been sometime since I went to a real butcher shop. I had Philly on my list for the cheese steak sandwiches. They were good but nothing spectacular. It was a good thing my wife wanted to see Independence Hall (NO pocket knives allowed!), The Italian Market, The Reading Terminal Market, the Betsy Ross House, the mint and a variety of other places. I enjoyed it.

First, have your expectations set appropriately before you arrive: this is a parking lot in an industrial area of the city. The purpose of staying here is to be close to the attractions in downtown Philly. It fulfills that purpose just fine. Security is very good. They do have wi-fi but it only works closer to the office (towards the front where you come in) and we were parked at the far end. The guy who runs the place is super friendly as are the shuttle drivers. One thing to be aware of: the hookups will all be at the very rear of your trailer, so plan your hoses and cords accordingly. We stayed 2 nights in site #25-26 with E/W. We would stay here again if we were wanting to see downtown Philly. We camped at Campus Park & Ride in a Travel Trailer.

Tips for other Campers:

When you exit off the interstate, be prepared for a quick right turn! We took the shuttle to the hospital and then uber-ed from there: $3 and 5 mins to the visitor's center. Get your tickets for Independence Hall, see the Liberty Bell, Ben Franklin's grave, Christ Church, Betsy Ross house (it's ok). Catch an uber to Reading Terminal and enjoy all the food offerings. An uber from Reading Terminal back to Campus Park & Ride was $15-20.

It is a urban parking lot so expect no trees and some noise. the shuttle service into Philly and electricity is what attracted here. The power went out on day one, we were told that the breakers are inside the building (owned by the department of homeland security) and they were having trouble contacting some one to come out and turn it back on. After running the generator for 5 hours, still no word on when the power would be turned on, we scrubbed our trip and headed home. We camped at Campus Park & Ride in a Motorhome.

Campus Park & Ride in Philadelphia is the ONLY place to park an RV in the city. Shuttles run 24/7 to the University District hospitals as well as SEPTA bus, subway, trolley, and train systems. If you're traveling by car, you are 10 minutes from Center City in one direction and the Airport in the other. Rates are $30 to $60 nightly depending on size. Buy 6 nights at once and the 7th night is free. This is a retired trucking terminal with lots of flat pavement and hookups (electricity and water, but separate dump station) situated in an urban environment with lots of cameras and high fences. If you're looking for grass and trees, um... keep looking. They're not here. If you want easy access to and from multiple freeways and minutes from everything while being secure, you're in the right spot! In exchange for the close proximity to the City, there are noises like trains, trucks, planes, helicopters, police, fire... you name it, you get it. It's the City! I'm here now and I've found that parking up to the left in the middle of the U shaped building is a better place to be protected from the noise. As for the cleanliness rating above, it's lots of concrete in the city and trash blows around. It's a fact in Philly! :) We camped at Campus Park & Ride in a Motorhome.

This is an old truck depot with an attached parking lot. RVs back up to the old loading bays. It sounds unappealing, but it's actually pretty nice. The sites are flat, paved, and easy to back in. Power and water are convieniently located. No trees so satellite works very well. No sewer but dump station nearby. Your neighbor might be 3 feet slide out to slide out if the place is busy. The area is fenced with a security gate and 24x7 shuttle drivers. The parking lot is an overflow lot for the U of P Hospital. Around 6:30am cars start showing up and you will hear some doors slamming and horn honking when the cars lock. A train yard is close by and you will hear trains too. But, a free shuttle to the hospital and a $2.25 bus (#42) gets you to all the downtown sites. Being in Philly as opposed to a long drive outside the city is great! Staff are super friendly and helpful. Price is a little high but when the location is considered it's fair. Keep in mind tow vehicle is an extra charge. If I were touring downtown PHL, I would stay here again!

Good service, very unique. Shuttle to U of P Hosp complex. Take the 42 bus to Historic area, $2.25 per ride.

Only negatives were traffic noises from nearby train and highway system. This is a former truck transfer warehouse, thus the location. Felt very secure with fencing and shuttle drivers on duty 24/7.

Nice people!

Basically this is a parking lot. The location is good (particularly good if you are wanting to be near the hospital as they provide a free shuttle). It is noisy with trains nearby and a highway also. No place but tarmac to walk a dog so not pet friendly. It is also quite expensive. On the good side, the people we dealt with were very friendly and helpful and it was easy to get downtown using the shuttle and a bus. We camped at Campus Park & Ride in a Motorhome.

$60 per night was for a level concrete-all-around site with full hookups. There are only three full hookup sites (the first site is kept unoccupied to be used as a dump station); the remaining sites have water and electric. All sites are first come, first served. This parking lot (many hospital employees park here) campground is located about one mile from many of the Philadelphia medical facilities including the VA Medical Center and UPENN Hospitals. In addition, all the amenities are close by. It's not much for looks (there are trees along the border fence) but if you're looking for a convenient-to-everything-place to camp and you're going to be out all day, this is the perfect location. Free shuttles are offered to the hospitals and bus stops. The dispatchers, who are the go to people, were very helpful and full of information. AT&T and Verizon cell service were full bars of 4G LTE. We used our Verizon jetpack for internet access as the campground Wi-Fi didn't provide enough speed for our needs. We received 43 over-the-air TV stations and many radio stations. We camped at Campus Park & Ride in a Motorhome.

Couldn't get into a real campground, even 6 weeks in advance, so came here knowing it was a parking lot with full hookups. Points for security, nearness to downtown, strong Verizon and over-the-air TV signals, and offering a free shuttle to public transit. Demerits for short, tight spaces that are hard to get into; noise (next to the train switching yard and 3 hospitals, so lots of clanging and sirens); sewer connection (a foot off the ground, so had to drain uphill); refusal to make reservations (which we thought we had after calling, then told on arrival that we didn't); and pricing practices. Their Good Sam ad, signage and web site all said $30/night, but they charge up to $20 more if you're over 29' (even though all the spaces are the same size) plus $12 for a towed or towing vehicle. I complained and they corrected the web site info. We camped at Campus Park & Ride in a Fifth Wheel.
