Date of Stay: June, 2017 - $12.00
Overall Rating:

The Shenango Rec Area is a really nice facility. They don't try to pack them in, leaving nice private spaces between the sites. They offer electric in some sites but there are no full hookups available. Trash bins are located all through the campground and all the roads are nicely paved. My only complaint: The dogs. While most dogs were well behaved and quiet, one dog, just two sites over, barked incessantly. It was making us upset to the point we were going to report the owners but we didn't. We will use this campground again. A reminder to all seniors. June 30, 2017 ends the one-time $10.00 fee for a lifetime pass to all the national parks and most federal parks. The senior pass is good for the cardholder and three others in the vehicle. Our campground site at SRA was half price! We camped at Shenango Rec Area Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

Tips for other Campers:

There are many sites along the lake, allowing people to enjoy swimming and boating from their campsite. The campground is centrally located between two Walmart stores; one in Greenville and the other in Hermitage, both within 6 or 8 miles. Hermitage has movie theaters, restaurants, and stores of all types.

Friendly staff, all that one expects from the Army Corp parks! Clean site, facilities. Senior pass rate always a welcome value.

OTA and Verizon both good. Stayed two nights and was so pleased I stayed another two.

Will be sure to return yet again. First come sites are great for travelers! We camped at Shenango Rec Area Campground in a Motorhome.

Date of Stay: July, 2016 - $24.00
Overall Rating:

This is an old Army Corps of Engineer campground that is in need of upgrading. Of the 321 sites, only 109 have 30 amp power. There is no 50 amp electric or water at the camp sites, however you may be lucky enough to have a site close to a water hydrant that you could tie into with a "Y" or "T" adapter. There is no sewer at any site although there is a dump station with two access points.

The electric sites are situated very close together. The non-electric sites are more spacious, especially those that back up to the water. Those are lovely sites if you want to/can boondock.

If you camp at an electric site, plan on taking leveling blocks with you as many will require side to side leveling. Also you may need blocks for your rear stabilizers because some of the sites "drop off" in the back.

The restrooms/showers are very old and need major refurbishing. The restrooms were clean and serviced regularly, we didn't use the showers.

The rates vary for the campground: Electric-$24.00; Lakefront non-electric-$21.00; Other not-electric0$19.00; and Multiple Family Site-$34.00. They do accept the "Golden Access" and "America the Beautiful Access" cards which gives you a 50% discount.

All in all, it is an okay campground and we will stay there again. We camped at Shenango Rec Area Campground in a Travel Trailer.

The town of Hermitage is close and and they have all the eating and shopping you need. There is a Marina that you can drive to that does have boat rentals.

Many of the best sites are lakefront, but are non-electric sites. Consequently, many generators in these areas, some noisy. No water at many of the sites, so fill up before you go in. 330 sites and one dump station (2 sides), so plan your exit time carefully. Bathrooms really need to be refurbished, and the showers are horrible both in layout and cleanliness. That said, the layout of the campground layout is pretty good and most sites are well spaced. Flat land so good for bicycles. There is no official beach or swimming area, but the water is accessible behind some sites. Very good 4 lane boat ramp. Security is excellent and park rangers are always very close. Verizon coverage = 2 out of 5 stars. Several local TV stations available. All electric sites have a GFCI breaker on the power pedestal, which has been a problem for some around the campground. Seems like the GFCIs disagree with surge suppressors. We camped at Shenango Rec Area Campground in a Fifth Wheel.
