Definitely follow Campground instructions and not GPS. We stayed on Site 48 for an over night stay. Site is spacious, wide, and level. Water spigot next to site. Though Reserve America states water on most sites there are not water hookups just spigots located throughout the park. You can use a hose at the dump station to fill fresh water tank. Beautiful treed site and park is quiet. The Lake looks beautiful but we did not have time to enjoy it on this trip. Would come again. We camped at Frances Slocum State Park in a Motorhome.

Overall Rating:

Traveling in a 43ft Class A with 4 slides and tow vehicle. Last main road before CG has a weight limit of 20 tons (no option to avoid it). Follow campground directions as GPS tries to take you through back roads that are narrow with lots of turns. Only electric hookups, no sewer or water but there is a dump station. Many of the sites are sloped and hard to level for a big rig. Originally booked site 11 but is was sloped too much front to back and could not level without back wheels off the ground. Moved to site 51 and is probably the nicest for big rigs as it is nearly level and wide with easy back in at an angle. Road from office to sites is long and narrow with a steep hill and there is no where to pull off if another rig is coming through in the opposite direction. Could not get Direct TV satellite due to tree coverage but AT&T cell service was decent. Lots of trails for hiking, nice lake for fishing and boat rentals, swimming pool was closed for the season. We camped at Frances Slocum State Park in a Motorhome.

We would camp here again. The park is well maintained and staff is helpful. The lots are well maintained, fairly level, and easy to get into. Each lot is unique with different layout. Easy access to lake. The dump station is clean, easy to access, close, and located just outside of loop. There is a swimming pool and modern playground on other side of lake, about 5 minute drive. Swimming pool is large with two water slides; 2 - 9 feet. There is a snack bar but they do not have any chairs. They are very rule focused. We visited in a travel trailer. It was very nice they have a lot of wildlife. They have a nice pool. They do not have a camp store; you can buy firewood at the pool but you should probably bring your own if you can. But it's nice for kids to ride bikes. They have sites with electric and water. I believe ours didn't have either, but we washed dishes in the bathroom and brought bottled water. We camped at Frances Slocum State Park in a Tent.

Nice wooded setting. Sites have electric only. Several water fill stations spaced around campground. The restrooms/showers are old and dated. Signage directing you to campground needs improvement. We camped in a 23' trailer so access was easy. We camped at Frances Slocum State Park in a Travel Trailer.

Tips for other Campers:

Large lake in park. Boats available for rent. Drive west to Ricketts Glen State Park and hike the trail along 22 waterfalls. It is a strenuous 3.5 miles with an elevation drop and subsequent rise of ~600 feet. Well worth the effort.

This is a beautifully wooded state park with some amenities. Sites have electric only. Some are extremely short so check descriptions carefully so rig fits. We camped at Frances Slocum State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

There is only one pull through site that I know of, which is near the bath house, otherwise all are back ins. The low numbered sites on the outer side of the electric hookup loop are bigger than the other side and inside spots. This is our second time here, so we had surveyed the park for favorite sites previously, which I highly recommend. Many sites are not level, and quite a few that are not big rig friendly at all. If possible, check out the sites available before you commit to one. Our stay during the week was wonderful, but unless you really like an over populated, busy, and noisy park, I would avoid weekends. Lots of lovely trails to walk, nice lake to canoe/kayak on (electric motors only) and a huge day use area on the other side of the lake with a pool gives you lots of things to do here. We camped at Frances Slocum State Park in a Motorhome.

We needed one night on the way to Lake Ontario from Virginia and when I called the office of this park, I was told they had water and electric and pull thru sites. The site they picked for us would barely hold a pop up, much less our fifth wheel. Not many signs to direct you to the camp area, too. A wonderful park ranger arranged the change to their one, note one, pull thru site from our small one. It was adequate. Not very level, but for one night okay. The lake is lovely, the grounds are lovely, but the people in reservations and in the camp office do not know the campground at all. Will never return. We camped at Frances Slocum State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Overall Rating:

This park is located on the edge of Wilkes-Barre in the hills just above the city.  Follow local signs, not your GPS.  Local residents use the park as a quick getaway for the weekend, so it is not the friendliest park if you are simply an overnighter.  There are relatively few sites with electric hookups (none with water, be sure to fill your tank), and the dry sites were almost empty while the electric sites were full. Bath houses were cleaned, but heavily used.  Regardless, by 10 PM, people were quiet and we got a good night of sleep. Staff at check-in was quick, efficient, and friendly.  Noise from the highway to the south of the park could be heard. Frequent patrols by park personnel.  The bath house fan made a loud electrical hum that was bothersome.  A previous reviewer said some sites were "stone" covered... this means graveled.  Some sites were not graveled, and instead were muddy.  Length of sites varied greatly.  Some could hold big rigs, while others could barely fit a pop-up.  Select carefully online when reserving.  We had to use one inch of levelers laterally, no big deal there.  Bicycling was fun around the lake, but steep on spots.  AT&T service was five bars.  There is no view of the lake from campsites.  Abundant bird life.  We would opt to camp elsewhere if we were to return to the area. We camped at Frances Slocum State Park in a Travel Trailer.

Really pretty and very large state park. Not really big rig friendly, but do-able for our 32 foot motorhome. Picked a site (#26) online, and upon arrival we found it was not level, had ruts, and surprisingly a pile of garbage left behind from previous campers that could fill a pickup truck bed. Very nice park ranger apologized and let us pick another site. We chose #14, and were very happy with the site. Mostly level, private, and very large. Bath house was clean, but could really use a good scrubbing down rather than a quick mop out. Three second push button showers were annoying also. Lake is beautiful, but very muddy and am concerned it may be too polluted for any wild life, which was obviously very absent. We did enjoy our peaceful and quiet stay here and would return. We camped at Frances Slocum State Park in a Motorhome.

Overall Rating:

Frances Slocum is one of Pennsylvania's very nice state parks. The campground here offers about half electric and half primitive sites; one loop is all electric and one all primitive. There are also walk-in tent sites and an organized group tent area available. Some of the electric loop sites were rehabilitated early this year and are very nice -- level, small stone pads more than large enough for a camper, awning and 10x10 canopy. Some other sites in the electric area are smaller and aren't as level, but all are nice. The sites around the end of the loop are more crowded than the rest, but still not one on top of the next. Part of the electric loop is in a tall pine forest and we had a doe and her fawn walk right behind our campsite before the loop filled for the weekend. We camped in one of the rehabbed sites, and as luck would have it, something happened to the underground electric feed, cutting off our power. The rangers and maintenance staff were all very nice to deal with, worked hard to correct the problem and when they couldn't, worked equally as hard to come up with a solution without causing us much trouble at all. They were all extremely professional and we couldn't have asked for better people to deal with. The restrooms and showers were clean and functional. The showers were hot and water pressure good. Showers are the annoying push button variety, though... Signage coming in to the park from I-81 was good, much better, in fact, than many other PA parks. The park is far enough from major roads that traffic noise is almost non-existent. Roads and signage in the park were also good. The road from the park office to the campground is rather narrow and windy as it goes downhill, so take it easy. There is a small camp store, open from Memorial Day through Labor Day. The store isn't the best stocked, but has most necessities. The park has a swimming pool and a 165 acre lake for boating and fishing. There is a boat ramp and storage area for the exclusive use of the campground. This park is in an area of the state with many other parks and many other things to see and is well worth a visit. This was our first trip to Frances Slocum but won't be our last. We camped at Frances Slocum State Park in a Tent Trailer.

Most of the state and national state parks we've found are not very close to the interstate so it helps when decent signage is provided from the interstate. This state park provides excellent signage from I-81. It offers several trails, well-paved roads and a small lake. Campsites were various sizes, wooded and either electric or not, but no water available at sites. Water and dump station are available, though. The camp office is not within convenient walking distance from the campsites but it's a nice bike ride. A bunch of wild rabbits crossed our path. We camped at Frances Slocum State Park in a Travel Trailer.
