22 Parks near Narragansett, Rhode Island
Sep 2016 - $35.00
I am going to give this state park campground a low rating due the the bathhouse and how disgusting it is at least in our loop. We are on a motorcycle towing a tent camper so bathroom facilities are important to us. The bathhouse structure looks ok from the outside but it is horrible in the inside. It was so bad that since we stayed only one night, we refused to shower there and will wait until our next destination. And the showers are coin operated too. The bathhouse is scheduled for renovation next year but that is not soon enough for us. We were on a full hook up site that was not level as many of the sites are not level so choose carefully (some are dramatically unlevel). Looked like many of the rigs were medium to small RVs though there are some sites that would fit bigger RVs. Picnic table is located on the grass and mud. Verizon cell and hot spot worked well and it appeared that there was no wifi which is normal for a state park. Utilities worked as advertised. Our site and access road was paved and our site was easy to pull in to. Campground was easy to locate. We would not stay here again. - roadking
Aug 2016 - $25.00
This is a real nice park, some areas have sewer hook ups, area 4 does not. The top area that we are in, is area 4. Paved roads but sites are 100% grass. For a state park the place is beautiful and we like it a lot: plenty of spacing, lots of vegetation and very private sites.
We have a large RV and not all the sites can fit us, but there are plenty that can. The problem is: you have to be somewhat familiar with the park to know.
We are getting our satellite, but again not all the sites will, perhaps 1/2. There is no honey wagon services, so you have to watch you water usage.
The rest rooms are not filthy, well maybe the showers, but they are very old and somewhat unkept. The showers are coin op, not something I want to step into at all. The bath houses need to be totally overhauled for sure, they are old and very tired. - Camping USA
Jun 2016 - $35.00
Do not even think of trying to enter or check in before exactly at 1:00pm. Staff was very rude and unpleasant. After check in was accomplished stay was pleasant.
Access from major highway is easy. Interior roads are paved with all campsite pads paved. Easy to navigate in the campground and very big rig friendly. Area 1 is the most big rig friendly with all sites being pull through with some being more level than others. Utilities placed in easily accessible position. Many of sites are waterfront or waterview. Some sites could be difficult to get level on if in Big Rig.
Many restaurants in the area. No Wifi but Verizon signal is decent. Satellite access was ok with some trees maybe posing an issue in some sites. All campsites have fire rings strategically placed. Biggest issue is that even though pads are straight, the grassy area beside of pad is severely sloped making it almost impossible to level a picnic table on many of the sites.
Did not use restrooms. Park has some historical value. Access from major highway easy with all interior roads being paved. - eaglesfan
Sep 2016 - $40.00
No maintenance and zero management. Dog fesces on campsite , unkempt grounds, 10 hoses to water bib. No pressure, brown water and no grounds rules. Loud parties to the early AM. The city of Jamestown should be embarrassed.
The view and location was wonderful. - Coffeetrader
Jul 2015 - $50.00
The vast majority of campers here are seasonal but for transients, Ft. Getty Park provides an inexpensive alternative to private campgrounds or difficult to reserve state parks in this area of Rhode Island. The campground occupies the top of a knoll at the mouth of the bay, and to reach it one must pass through Jamestown itself. This will pose no problem to any but the largest rigs. Interior roads are paved and easy to negotiate. All sites are treeless, grass back-ins roughly 25' wide by 60' deep, laid out in rows, with nothing to separate you from your neighbor. Hook-ups are water & electric only; water connections for some sites will require 40 or more feet of hose. There are no amenities of any kind. Restroom and shower facilities are old but clean enough to be useable (we did not). A dump station is available at the park exit. There was no debris or trash of any kind on the grounds. Our mid-week stay was quiet however I think weekends may be less so. As a base for touring the area, it is adequate. We would stay here again. - RamWagon
Jun 2015 - $50.00
We really lucked out in both finding this place and getting a last minute spot! The location is a peninsula with beautifully groomed lawn, spacious and incredible views of the ocean. Very quiet and serene, Jamestown had great little stores and restaurants. We cycle and will definitely come back to ride the Island for sure.
The dump site is at the entrance and a bit of a walk or slow drive if your dumping via a portable dump tank. There is a pier where you can fish and relax.
Bring a 50 foot power cord, depending on the site we barely made it with our 25 foot cord, same goes with your fresh water hose. - koeka
Jun 2015 - $45.00
Wanted a quiet campground and one that had hook ups, which is limited on RI shoreline. Very basic, but that's what we wanted - we are retirees. Plus close to shoreline/Matunock Restaurants/quiet little beaches on shoreline. Has a bass lake across the street which was lovely. Teenagers in park were out late, doing donut holes with golf cart on basketball court. Facilities were adequate/no campground store. Would go back again. Owner friendly and accommodating & liked 24 hour security. - Ontheroadagain 3
May 2015 - $35.00
The staff was friendly and helpful. There were many seasonal sites beyond the transient area. The transient area contained a bathroom / shower building which was dated but clean, also a playground. The pond is located some distance from the transient area and is across the road. The sites are quite sandy, fairly level and do not impress. - User2564
Aug 2014 - $35.00
Campground very convenient to area beaches and attractions. Mostly seasonal weekenders but transient sites are large. No sewer but allowed to dump grey water on ground. A negative are the noisy gas golf carts racing around. They do not seem to abide by the 5 MPH speed limit. Would probably camp here again but not near the main road. Would be quieter that way. - DZD
Apr 2015 - $20.00
We arrived early April and found only two other RV's in the park. Absolutely secluded and beautiful beach location. We own a 20' RV and since there's no dump station nor water AND you have limited grey/black tank storage you must conserve and be smart about use or you'll have to drive to the nearest dump site 15 min. You can use a generator but it's only allowed until 8 pm.
I've had family and friends stay here over the summer and its wall to wall campers with loud generators and cramped for space, the bathrooms in April were closed to us. If you're looking for serene and quiet I'd go off season as we will do so in the Fall. If they'd allow generators to go to 10 pm I'd give it a better rating. Not an issue if you have the larger RV's, a challenge if you have ones with limited power and water capacities. - koeka
Aug 2014 - $20.00
Park still gets a 10 for location. But during July and August there simply are too many vehicles in it. Getting set up can be a real challenge. One big problem is that the Department of Environmental Management is now in an office, so after the parking vendor leaves at 5:00 pm the gate booth is unmanned. So some folks with sites have all kinds of family and friends coming in to visit. This park is much better just before and after the peak summer season. - Bob and Inga
Apr 2014 - $20.00
This is an open area parking. Since it was off season only a few campers were here so it was pretty quiet. Extensive beach for walking, fishing, and small boating could be seen. We had cold evenings, nice sunsets and sunrises. There are no amenities so it's dry camping. Good restaurants nearby. We stayed 3 days. - RonMill
Aug 2014 - $61.00
The office people that handle the reservation are not pleasant. The fees are required by check upfront and are not returnable. We arrived and were but in a site with out a concrete slab and expected to remove everything placed on grass while not at campsite. No bathroom facilities and unfriendly owners. We did not stay the second night even though we forfeited the night unused. We preferred to go to a nicer and more pleasant location. This is hardly "Paradise" location is the only thing it has going for it. Wi-Fi did not work. Would not recommend to anyone. - AlmostRetired
Aug 2014 - $69.00
Close to Newport Harbor. When I called to make a reservation I was told "first come, first served". This seemed odd to me. Manager stated she had a few spaces so we departed earlier than planned. Manager seems to be very protective of her property, so she comes off as particular. Beautiful grassy site. Did not find an available Wi-Fi signal. Extra $8.00 charge for A/C or electric water heater "but you can't use both at the same time" on 30 amp service. A few TV channels on antenna. We liked the convenient location. - Bigdave2165
Jun 2014 - $75.00
Well maintained, level sites. Quiet but close enough to downtown (bike or car). Owners are friendly and helpful. Not much for kids to do at the park. But beaches are only a few miles away. No showers. No bathrooms so you must be self contained. Big plus for us was excellent, free Wi-Fi. Great place to work from if you are working on the road. - Jeff F.
Aug 2016 - $59.00
This is a bad place in so many ways. The sites are used mostly by old run down seasonal trailers. No sites are level. The rear of my trailer was 3 feet higher than the front in order to be level. All picnic tables are covered in black mold and the grass was high and patchy. No showers or bathrooms, or dog walk. There is a big open field but dogs are not allowed, no reason, just not allowed. They ONLY except cash! The only reason to be here is the location to Newport. Management's knowledge of this can only be their excuse for being so aloof and rude. - Gerry9
Jul 2016 - $65.00
I have been staying at Meadowlark for forty years and wish to say the park is not for sale. The double wide mobile home on site is for sale and is in very good shape. The park also is a great place to stay Historic Newport is three miles from the park and second beach is one mile away with ample parking and a great place for children. The park is clean and well maintained. The park has new paved roads . The staff is friendly and on hand to help with parking if required. There is a large mowed field for children ( of all ages) for playing ball or what ever and they also have fire rings and tables for evening camp fires . - Curtb
Oct 2015 - $58.00
The reviews on this web site are starting to bother me. We have never ran into a severe problem where I'd give a bad review yet. I almost blew this place off because of the reviews. I called the lady on the phone to explain my fears and she made me feel comfortable to drive from Fisherman's Campground, 24 miles, to here. We got here and everything is "fine". She was very nice. She had a packet of info all ready to go for me. We have hydraulic jacks, so we had no problem leveling. They will even help you back in, if needed. You are close to 2nd and 3rd beach. It was "OK". We had no problem leveling. It's not a "beautiful" site. There are a lot of trailer homes, but nobody bothered us. We left our RV alone for hours and we had no issues. I never heard a peep out of anyone. The sites can be rather close together but you are here to explore not to "relax and enjoy" at your RV. We have a 31 foot RV with two slideouts and an awning. If you park just right, then we can easily let our slideouts out and put the awning out. There is no play ground, but there is a cute trail with a windmill right next door. The owner said they had a goal to put in a playground this past year, but had plumbing issues that ate up the budget. They really need a little playground. Our 1.5 year old loved running the beaches. Get the Good Sam discount and rent a car! You'll be fine. - Yellow Submarine
Jul 2016 - $55.00
This is a clean campground within an easy 35-40 minute drive to Newport, RI. We opted for a 30 amp, full hookup site, as their 50 amp sites don't have cable. Not all sites have sewer - only W&E. Our back-in site was spacious and level, but no shade. Most of their sites do have shade. Friendly and easy check-in. There's a lot for kids to do and have fun. Lots of space to walk the dog. The cable was really good but there was no wi-fi at the site. Good Verizon cell service. We would stay here again. - Gayle E.
Jul 2016 - $56.00
Definatly a family friendly park. Lots of kids, it was their Christmas in July event.
The park is off the beaten path and interesting to get too.
The sites are large but a bit hilly.
My biggest gripe is the early arrival charge of $5 an hour and. a $3 per dog charge. Because they can. - User780
Aug 2015 - $55.00
We used the park as our home base for our family activities off -site so we did not utilize the most of the parks amenities. Site was large and nice. Staff was very friendly. On site "restaurant" was good but not open every day. We plan on going back when we can spend sometime relaxing at the park. Pool slide looked great but we did not have time to use it and as others have said it is ala cart.
The knocks: my site was very difficult to get into due to trees at entrance to site and a huge rock where my truck needed to swing. With the help of a seasonal RVer and wife I used a semi-perpendicular road for my approach. I was backing blind so their help was greatly appreciated.
This one is stupid but the speed bumps are crazy large! Don't bring your Ferrari or even your Vette...you will hit bottom. :-)
Overall 8.5 rating. - Bandguy
Aug 2016 - $20.00
Ditto to all other reviews. We were in the 300's near the bathhouse and boat launch. Very quiet. Only 1/3 park was full. Our site very large with lots of trees and space between for privacy. Site was all sand and gravel and not as level as we would have hoped. But there are very nice level and large sites - just got to know where to go. Baths are older and in need of rehab. Lots of graffiti in the stalls and old concrete floors that could use a serious power wash. $.75 4 minute shower. Only hot water that cannot be regulated? Not good on a 90 degree 90% humidity day! - travlinphoolz
Sep 2015 - $20.00
Camped here for one night during the week. Office staff was super nice on check-in. Park was empty because it's past the season and during the week. Can't imagine what the place is like when it's filled up! Too few bathrooms for too many people, I'd bet. Bathrooms were clean but old and rundown.
The beach looked nice, but too small for even 100 people, never mind the crowds that must gather from over 800 campsites. Bikes would be a good idea to bring here, everything is a bit too far to walk, and no place to park a car.
No amenities of any kind, strict no alcohol, no nudity, no cutting of trees.
(Where's the fun in that? If I can't drink beer while cutting down the woods naked, ....) It really is a lovely park and we enjoyed our stay.
The sites are all different sizes and layouts, some useless due to rocks and tree roots, others wide open and perfect. We camped here in our VW Westfalia camper. - JudoJeff
Aug 2015 - $15.00
Stayed at this campground many times over the years. Great location to the only real asset RI has which are their beaches. As far as the campground goes it is not given the maintenance it requires to offer safe access to the facility. Tree limbs are hanging to low everywhere. The state of RI like other north eastern states employ lazy personal that are there for the check instead of the pride of having a descent job with yes responsibilities. I witnessed the campground staff taking their afternoon nap deep off the trail on at least two occasions. We all know this will never change. It's to bad because this campground has more potential than it state is giving it. - tinman

Sep 2015 - $20.00
Location, Location, Location.
As an RV park, it is strictly a place to put the rig while exploring Newport and the area.
Spacious back-in sites. Clean grounds. Nothing else. 30 Amp power and water only. No dump station.
Must have a reservation.
Staff at main base rec center very helpful.
We will stay here again - mainly due to location and price. - PawPaw
Aug 2011 - $20.00
I stayed here for 3 weeks (2 weeks then 1 week) while in school, it was very nice and clean. There are only 6 sites, plenty of room at the camp ground. Shares the facility with the softball fields, so the lights may be on at night. - calewjohnson
Aug 2011 - $20.00
When making this reservation, we asked for a pull through and were told "OK". Arriving the sites were all back ins. Even so, we enjoyed the several days we were there. It was quiet, the views of the water/river very nice. Although sewage was only avail at a remote site we did not feel this difficult with our holding tanks. Travel to a convenience store is about a mile distant. TV service via analog antenna was good. Much of our time was spent touring the Newport area and this site was very accommodating for us. Should we be again in the area, we would definitely ask for a site here. We would have given it a higher rating, no sewage at the site. - MaryAnnFrederick
Aug 2016 - $60.00
Nice little gem on the North End of the Newport peninsula. Our site is water and electric only, nicely level and next to a bathhouse. There are FHU sites, just none available during our stay. Power is steady and water pressure good. They have a couple of grey water dump spots throughout the campground so handling your grey water doesn't involve a hike to the sewer dump by the office. ATT and Verizon voice and data are adequate. Campground WiFi works okay. Park was quiet during the week, but gets noisy on the weekends. - moderate camper
Sep 2015 - $55.00
This is a former U.S. Military MWR facility. When we made reservations, we weren't told that some (a few) sites had water, power, and sewer. We got a water and power only site. Sites are spacious, but the water and power hook-ups are on separate sides of your coach. And, even when parked in the center of your site, a reach to get to. It took 48 feet of my 50 foot water hose to reach the spigot. Site was dirt base and fairly level. Not many other campground options in the Newport area. - Joe-n-Doe
Jul 2015 - $55.00
Great campground within 20mins of the newport mansions. This is a quiet campground with lots of trees and very shady camping spots. The grey water disposal spots are convenient since there are no sewer connections at the sites, only a dumping station near the exit. The sites are private with a lot of space between them. The roads are gravel and full of holes. The rate of $55 would be steep in any other area for the amenities offered, but this is Newport where a good burger can set you back $20 (with $1.50 for lettuce and tomato). We really enjoyed our stay here. - airstreamerSC
