Face it. This is a waystop. Adjacent to the highway, & mostly bare dirt. But, the person we dealt with was very friendly, and it's very convenient. It was bone dry when we were there, but I sympathize with the people who were there in the rain. It appears they are slowly adding landscaping and making improvements, so things may gradually improve. We camped at Peanut Hills Campground in a Travel Trailer.

Tips for other Campers:

The town is interesting, given the connection to Al Capone during Prohibition. The "Underground" is not what you might expect. It's basically a tour of interconnected basements. The Railway Station is now a very impressive Liquor Store, with a surprisingly large wine selection. Bottom line, if you are going this way, you probably need to stop here, or somewhere nearby. If it's dry, try Peanut Hills. If it's raining, or has rained recently, maybe just park by the Big Moose!

Date of Stay: August, 2017 - $30.00
Overall Rating:

We stayed 3 nights at Peanur Hills. I was torn between staying here or the one down the road, something like travelers complex or similar name, can't remember. I drew the straw and ended up with a mixed bag. First of all, if there is rain in the near forecast, don't stay here. There is no gravel down and it rained for half our stay. I was glad it was the first half because I would have honestly been worried about making it out of the park. It was a muddy mess. My tow vehicle was muddy, our outdoor mat and RV steps, muddy. Heck even the dogs paws got muddy. They need to pave or put gravel down and grow some more grass in some of the bare areas. I was very happy that we had a large patio rug to put down. Otherwise it would have been horrible. Ok, with the mud aside, it's obvious they are a fairly new park and trying to get up and running. The bath house is brand new and very nice inside. They have some young trees that will grow over time but currently there is no shade. Except for the bath house, there are no amenities. There is agricultural equipment, big silos, etc, within feet from the campground fence. I'm looking out my window and can see the monstrosities as I type. I wonder if that's where some of the long term folks in the park work? It hasn't been that offensive to us but it's not the kind of scenery you'd expect when camping. Bottom line is, if you're staying for one night to rest your weary head, this place will do. Just make sure there's no rain in the forecast. This doesn't have a park feel but rather a 'in the middle of a dirt field' feel. Therefore, for anything longer, I'd stay at the park down the road. I drove by to check them out. While there was some standing water from the rain at some of their sites, I'd rather have that than mud. And they have paved roads. We camped at Peanut Hills Campground in a Motorhome.
