Date of Stay: December, 2016 - $15.00
Overall Rating:

We stayed there in December 2016 for 3 nights. The road into Huatabampo from the south was horrible in spots, in many places worse than a dirt track would have, but, there was a lot of repaving going on and I expect that it will be much better now. Highway 149 into Navojoa was the way we chose to leave and other than some road construction in Etchojoa, and just before Navojoa, it was very good, and would be the best choice going south. The campground was almost deserted when we got there, only a truck camper and a travel trailer there. The camper left the next morning and the TT left the same day we did. The electric hookups were in bad shape, I had to hook to the one on the right hand side as the one on the site we were in and the site on the left were both inoperable. Lots of rust but you would expect that since it is right on the water. If we were going back south I would choose to stop here for a couple of nights as the RV park in Los Mochis is closed and it is a very long day from San Carlos/Guaymas to Mazatlan for us older travelers. I give it an Excellent value and overall good as you couldn't get a better beach campground. We camped at El Mirador RV Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Note: Their phone number is 011- 52- 642-421-1439.

The beach was beautiful and had lots of shells and wildlife. Plus, the birdwatching in this area is outstanding. The owners of the RV Park redefined my idea of service. They created and fostered a great sense of community among the campers and between the campers and staff. They even had sweet cats and a dog. The parking lot was just sand and dirt, but it was level and roomy, making it very easy to back in right next to the beach. In addition, the owners have added a new seawall not mentioned in the Church’s book (Traveler’s Guide to Mexican Camping). The owners are continually making repairs and improvements (although three recent hurricanes have made that hard for them). We had some problems with the electricity when we were there, but they were busily re-wiring the entire camp to bring it up to US code. The hose spigots are a tad smaller than US standard, so we had to use a generous wrapping of Teflon tape to get a good seal. We have not noticed this problem in other Mexican parks. Our spot next to the beach was absolutely stunning, and because of the beach’s orientation, you can see both sunrise and sunset over the water. The only down side of being next to the beach was that local residents like to party there in their cars and ATVs. We had a spot close enough to the restaurant to have excellent Wi-Fi, but many people had to sit on the porch to get a signal. The restaurant/office has an outside door that leads to a shower and bathroom. The Point-of-Use water heater on the shower meant that you never run out of hot water (although there’s not a lot of water pressure). When we were there in December and January, the water was warm enough for wading but not for swimming. During our stay, a number of people stepped on stingrays, so we mostly stayed on shore or wore water shoes. The owners speak some English, but, of course, it helps if you also speak Spanish. Full hook-ups next to beach cost 200 pesos; full hook-ups on the second row cost 100 pesos. You receive a small discount for staying weekly or monthly. We meant to stay a few days and ended up staying a month. When you get to the fork in the road, BEAR RIGHT, or you’re on your way to Yavaros, a quaint little fishing village where there’s hardly any place to turn around a big rig. We camped at El Mirador RV Park in a Travel Trailer.

Wonderful location on Sea of Cortez. Beach camping with FHU. Friendly staff, and best seafood restaurant in Sonora. No nightclubs or noise at night. A bit inconvenient to find. Make sure you use electric system protection. Environment is beautiful, but harsh on your RV. We camped at El Mirador RV Park in a Motorhome.
