Great camping area. Sites are well spaced. Most are open with full sun. There is a dump station on site. There is no gatehouse, however we were greeted by the camp host upon arrival. The site was easy to locate and very easy to back in. Our site (6) is adjacent to the woods and offered more privacy than the others. There is a large staging area adjacent to the camping area. Perfect spot to hitch or unhitch a tow. Boat launch next to camping area Hiking trails Major stores are 20-30 min drive away. - DJR CMR

The park is small, quaint, quiet and beautiful. Stop at the camp host to check in. The bathhouse, unfortunately, needs to be torn down and replaced. One stall in operation and I refused to use it. If it was in good working order, I would have given this park a 10 rating. The camp host greets you when you arrive if you follow the signs. (The sign needs to be enlarged or replaced). There are 14 RV sites and 5 tent sites. The site we had was perfect and I would reserve it again. The view of the intercostal was beautiful and I believe could be viewed from all the sites. There was a public grassy area with benches directly on the waterway. It would be very nice if there were also picnic tables in this area. A short walk to the boat launch. There isn't much to do here but read a book and watch the boats go by which is exactly what we wanted at this time. - Mamag76

Buck Hall Recreation Area is conveniently located right off route 17. The $20 includes a $10 senior discount plus a $10 reservation fee! The reservation fee seems awfully high but I assume it is the same whether you reserve one night or several nights. We only stayed one night so it is steep. There are some overhanging trees but fairly easy to dodge. This is an older park so the sites are narrow but plenty long enough for any size rig. They are all back-in and some would be tricky to get a big rig into. The sites are paved and some have trees but they offer little shade. Site 8 could use some trimming. The park itself is full of beautiful trees and it is right on the Intracoastal. It was fun to watch all the boats passing by. They also have a boat ramp. Bathrooms were under renovation. The showers worked but not all the toilets. They had port-a-potties set up. There are lots of no-see-ums especially at night. The sites are water and electric with a dump station. DirecTV satellite worked fine in our site (9). Verizon was 4g-3 bars. For the most part it is very quiet although you can hear some traffic noise from Hwy 17 even though it's a fair distance away. We would stay here again. - Free

This was a really nice park that provided an oasis from the busy US 17 of Mt. Pleasant. The grounds were immaculate and the staff was very friendly and always asked if they could help. It was very quiet at night. Originally we were in Site 12 under an oak tree with falling acorns but we were moved to Site 11 which had no trees for the remainder of our stay. This was an excellent campground. Cable and Wifi were good. - Beggco

Nice level site facing the lake. Plenty of room to walk the dog. I only stayed 1 night. Getting out to Hwy 17 is a challenge, the traffic is terrible! The staff was very nice. - RVDolly

This was our first stay at a KOA. We stayed here for a softball tournament at the new Shipyard Park right up Hwy 41 (12 minutes away). We needed a late check-in Friday night but they were very accommodating and had all necessary information out for us. Despite the time, they even came out to show us to our site specifically. Our site was very level albeit a bit short for my TV/TT combo but we did fit. You can tell all of the rain the Low Country is receiving right now is making it difficult for them to keep the grounds maintained and roads in decent shape. (Grass needed to be cut and roads were pretty muddy but they can't help with weather.) The have tons to do with basketball, swimming pool, fishing pond, boat rentals, etc. They also have ICE, Propane, and a camp store that seemed to have a good variety of items. They also allowed a late check-out on Sunday afternoon for a small fee. - sc_shrpshtr

The camp Ground has nice deep sites that are well laid out and it's very quiet. It has two concrete "tracks" for the RV and large concrete patios with a picnic table and charcoal grill. The camp ground host is very friendly and efficient. - R Peterson
Feb 2018 - $20.00
older park, but great value, and convenient to everything in the area. We stayed here for 4 months, and while it wasn't fancy, we felt safe. It's in need of repair (playground, roads, fire pit area) and I heard they were going to close for renovations, but no time frame was given. When we're back in the area, we'll stay again if we can. - DaBlairs

Nice older Navy FamCamp, but well maintained. It appears at one time it might have been the Navy base trailer park. Water pressure near 60 pounds and voltage around 118/119v. Interior roads are paved and in good condition. Restrooms are kind of unique. The restroom/shower/laundry building is a commercial trailer unit. There are 5 separate restrooms in the trailer. Each individual restroom is air condition, has its own door, toilet, sink and shower, very private. The laundry room is currently closed with a sign stating they are trying to order new commercial washers and dryers. Parking for your RV is on two long parallel cement pads. There is ample room to park even the largest pickup without being near the road. There is an cement patio. Lots of green grass that is mowed. Most sites have some sort of shade tree. According to the camp host the only site that can not get satellite reception is site 1. We had rain while here and our site did not flood. This FamCamp is located in Navy off base housing. With the campground located in base housing there are cement sidewalks everywhere. The base housing is well maintained and very clean. Security seems good. Security patrols the housing area night and day. The Commissary, NEX, MWR and ITT are all located within a mile of the campground. The only negative, not a fault of the campground, is the smell from the Kapstone Paper Mill. The mill is located a few miles south of here. At times smell from it is very strong. If you have ever been near a paper mill you know how nasty the smell can get. - ETB
