First, this park was hit hard by an EF-2 tornado not too long ago, so they are still cleaning up from that. The campground is small in size, but does have about 8 FULL hookups. (50 amps and sewer). This is important since the dump station is out of service because of the Tornado. We did not know this until we got there. Lucky for us, we were on a full service site. The bathrooms were clean and nice, but I just looked around and did not use them. There was a horseshoe pit and community fire pit area in the campground. There are 3 ponds at this state park. Large one in the front, one small one that was accessible from the cabin area and one small that was accessible from the campground. The large pond and the pond by the campground are big enough for kayaks and small fishing boats. The campground does rent them. We caught a couple of nice bass, so there are fish in the ponds. There is also a nice swimming area and playground for the kids. They had one hiking trail open and there are several geocaches in the park if you do that. There is WiFi at the Ranger office and some small supplies. The only issues I have with this park are the Roads, the dump station and the location of the trash dumpster area. The Roads are in bad shape and potholes are filled in with ROC which is better than nothing, but they are still bad. The dump station being closed would have been a big problem for us if we did not have a full hookup site. Also, the dump station is in a weird location and could be very difficult to get in and out of. The trash dumpster area is location almost at the front entrance. I am sure there is a reason for this, but it was very inconvenient to dispose of trash every night. You had to drive to the dumpster. We camped at Barnwell State Park in a Travel Trailer.

Tips for other Campers:

There is also a Dollar General about 3 miles away that has just about anything you would need. There is a very nice restaurant in Blackville called Miller's Bread Basket. Also, about 6 miles away are the God's Acre Healing Springs.

Great value for full hook up site in a nice small state park. The park was recently a direct hit by some tornados, so there is a lot of debris and workers attempting to clean up after the storm, but it is nice with a pretty lake and some cascading dams. We saw people fishing, but did not try our luck. Park staff very friendly and accommodating. Verizon service was good. Sites a bit on the narrow side, we did not use our fire pit for fear it was too close to the camper. A lot of trees, but we were able to position to get satellite from our roof mounted dish from site 24. We camped at Barnwell State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

The old reviews are misleading. Some natural disaster must have come thru here recently as there is a lot of damage and trees down. Most campsites would be almost unusable due to water damage, etc. Not sure what the hosts in SC state parks do, but it's not much. Sites with firepits full of garbage, etc. Bathroom small but clean. We camped at Barnwell State Park in a Travel Trailer.

My wife and I camped with our granddaughter. Quiet and cozy campground. Three ponds. Fishing, boating and swimming. Playground. Rangers provide activities for the whole family. Even in the rain, Rangers provided s'mores. Loved our stay here. As with several State Parks the roads need some improvements. We camped at Barnwell State Park in a Travel Trailer.

Overall Rating:

This is a really great little state park if you're not looking for a lot of frills. Ponds to fish in and hiking trails. This is an older state park but the restrooms are cleaner than larger parks we've visited. During Memorial Day weekend the rangers came by frequently and checked out the sites and restroom facilities. It's a quiet place off the beaten path. A good place to relax. We have stayed here a couple of times and will go back. We camped at Barnwell State Park in a Tent Trailer.

Overall Rating:

This campground is off the beaten path but if you're looking for good camping it's worth it. I would not suggest pulling any kind of trailer over 36' as I think it says on South Carolina's Park Site. We had a great time. Peace and quiet, really clean bathrooms, ponds to fish in, hiking trails, and a picnic area around the ranger station. This is an older park and some of the sites are not graveled but if you're looking to do some camping and don't need a lot of extras I highly recommend it. We will go back. We camped at Barnwell State Park in a Tent Trailer.

We stayed one night at this very quiet, small, out of the way campground in March on our way to Florida. The bathhouse was dated but very clean. The campsites were far enough apart to enjoy and be somewhat private. The staff was professional, helpful and courteous. We camped at Barnwell State Park in a Travel Trailer.

This is an older State Park with water and electric hookups. Some of the sites were not too level, but were quite spacious. Restrooms were older but very clean and well maintained. It is off the beaten trail and way back in the woods, so it a little hard to find. We enjoyed the trip into the park, and the ranger we talked with was very friendly and answered our questions about the area, etc. There were only 2 other campers in the park, but it was not the busy season. If you looking for a rustic quiet setting this is the place! We camped at Barnwell State Park in a Motorhome.
