This is our second time to stay here. Overall the campground is nice and, except for the brutal sun (no trees around our site), we enjoyed our stay. The utilities were well-placed and all worked well. Our site was level and wide enough for our coach but not overly wide though we didn't feel too close to our neighbors. The interior roads were easy to navigate our 45' DP. The campground has numerous trash bins throughout the park and they have recycling bins near the entrance. Others have complained about the speed bumps. They are clearly a nuisance but we managed. Others have also complained about not being able to turn left safely onto Hwy 17. This is a real problem but I don't think the campground owners can do anything about it. Just always turn right! The staff was generally nice except for the young man who checked us in. He was downright rude and I told him so. I only saw him once during the week we were there so he probably only works weekends. He was really the only negative during our stay. We might stay here again but there are other campgrounds we prefer. We camped at Oak Plantation Campground in a Motorhome.

Overall Rating:

Stayed here 5 nights through the 4th of July week to do some genealogical studies. Other than the speed bumps, the campground is nice. Site was gravel and level and in the open. No relief from the sun and heat of the season. The provided WiFi worked in fits and starts. Verizon voice and data excellent. All utilities worked as they should (water, sewer, electric). Plenty of over the air TV stations to supplement the provided cable. Trying to turn left out of the park onto US 17 (Savannah Hwy) is treacherous. The local people use this work around: Exit park to the right to the traffic light. Right onto Main Road. Follow to the next traffic light and turn right again. This is Bees Ferry Road. You can continue straight to Ashley Ferry Road or turn right onto Glenn McConnell Parkway to access West Ashley. I-26 and the campground are separated by the Ashley River. There are only two crossings available: I-526 and Bacons Bridge Road (SR 165) We camped at Oak Plantation Campground in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

Traffic on I-26 approaching the I-526 merge can get backed up for miles. The day we were approaching Charleston, the road was closed due to a tragic car accident/fire. May I suggest that you exit to the right at SC Exit 199 (Pilot and Cracker Barrel at this exit). Follow Alt 17 to SR 165. Turn left onto SR 165 and follow this road to SR 61, Ashley River Road. Then follow Ashley River to I-526 and then to US 17 (Savannah Hwy) which sets you up for a right turn into the campground.

This was our second stay at this park. This time we were in a different section, ants were not a problem. They do require a $40 non-refundable deposit. I found the nightly rate (with Good Sam discount) reasonable for the park's proximity to downtown, about 20 minutes. The pool is small and right next to busy 17, not sure how relaxing and enjoyable that might be for those who want to use it. Yes, there are many speedbumps in the park, nothing to complain about. And yes, 17 in front of the park gets VERY busy...difficult to take a left at certain times of the day, also difficult to impossible to turn right and get in the left turn lane to head to Kiawah Island. Had to turn into gas station and come out the other direction. Not any fault of the campground owners...just the location and the traffic. Nothing that would prevent me from staying here again. We camped at Oak Plantation Campground in a Motorhome.

Publix grocery store very close by. Don't waste your time with Gilligan's (seafood restaurant nearby)...a disappointing meal after a long wait.

We stayed here in July. Hot. Ask for shade if you plan on coming in the summer. Nothing major wrong with this park...but....kinda hard to explain. Not that the workers were totally rude but not the friendliest either. Wifi was TERRIBLE. We were placed in a full sun spot in the back. Asked to change but they didn't have anything and if we did change they would not refund if it was a cheaper price. Our fault for not requesting it. Getting out of the park, turning left...very dangerous. Still about 25-40 minutes from downtown Charleston. There is a "fishing" pond behind the store that has alligators in it. Never saw any alligators but got "yelled" at by a store worker for walking back there since the house next door is private. We didn't walk on the private property but they weren't too nice about it. Things like this. I also didn't like that I had to pay a non-refundable deposit just to reserve it. Why? Honestly don't know if I would stay here again. $63 a night is very expensive for this place. Too many speed bumps. Too many speed bumps. Too many speed bumps. We camped at Oak Plantation Campground in a Travel Trailer.

Tips for other Campers:

Make sure you visit the USS Yorktown and all that is there. We spent over 4 hours there. So much to see and so worth it. We walked around historical Charleston but it was very hot as it was July. We visited the three National Parks in the area.

We stayed for 5 nights in our 40 ft motorhome. There is a gauntlet of speed bumps to the site but it's easy to navigate, the sites were spacious and level. No shade in our area but there were shaded sites in the grass areas. The campground is off a very congested road (Hwy 17) but check with the office and they can tell you a way to enter without having to make a left turn (if coming from the south). We would stay there again-very convenient to Charleston. We camped at Oak Plantation Campground in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

It's about impossible to make a left turn out of the campground. When going to Charleston, turn right out the campground, take the next right (Main St), turn left at next light. Continue to next light, turn left. The next light, turn left and you're back on 17. We did that with the rig as well. Much easier.

Big park. Sites are big enough & drained well in a day long downpour. About half hour to most attractions. Kind of pricey. Very slow in and out due to their 4321 speed bumps! We camped at Oak Plantation Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

Magnolia and Drayton Hall are nice plantations to visit. Patriots Point with the USS Yorktown and boat ride to Ft. Sumpter is a really nice area. Took a Gray Line tour of the historic district because it was pouring rain, well worth the 20$. Plenty of good restaurants in the Market District.

This campground served us very well and we enjoyed our stay there. The loop we were in (H) had fairly spacious sites, but I could see that sites near the back of the campground were closer together. There are no firepits at the site, but there are a limited (stress limited) number of fire rings available for rent at $4.50/day. The pool is clean and comfortable chairs are available, but you are pretty much off to the side of a busy highway. We would stay here again. We camped at Oak Plantation Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

Would definitely camp at this beautiful site again. Clean & spacious. We liked the close proximity to Charleston's tourist attractions. Very appreciative of front office staffer's suggestions about touring the smaller towns Waltersboro & Beaufort. We stayed an extra 2 days to visit them and so glad we did. This is a clean, well kept park. The staff is very friendly and helpful, gave us lots of maps, brochures, and directions. The cable TV worked fine, but the wi-fi was terrible (6 stations, but we cold not connect to any of them). It is very tough to turn left out of the park, onto 17 north, but you can go right 3 times in a big circle to go north. We had a lovely shady spot. There are lots of garbage cans, recycle bins, and 2 pump stations. We would definitely go back. We camped at Oak Plantation Campground in a Motorhome.

Stayed here for 9 days after our trip to Asheville was cancelled due to weather issues. Observations: 1) Getting into park from US17 is a "suicide" run, traffic horendous. 2) Speed bumps in park, too high, too many. 3) Site we had was clean, spacious, and quiet. BUT, cable was poor, wifi poor, water pressure poor, and NO Satellite signal! 4) Convenient to Charleston, but once again, getting into and out of the park across US17 treacherous. We camped at Oak Plantation Campground in a Motorhome.

Very helpful staff. They have propane when you first come in. Large park very quiet and clean. We parked in back section, lots of space between trailers. We were in full hookup section and were able to get satellite tv. Sites are gravel or a pad with a nice grassy area. They have an area to recycle and a laundry area. Would stay here again. Trains, Planes, Autos, Ambulances and Fire Trucks - yes, there is noise here. We ran a few fans in the evening [for white noise] that helped, but that did not solve the noise issue (i.e., our sleep was still periodically disturbed). For anything more than a short stay, we would have a problem with the noise at this campground. We have stayed at this campground twice. The positive is the site assigned to us, both times, fit us. We did not care for the site during our first visit, a little closer to our neighbors than we prefer and it was very unlevel front to back. The site that was assigned to us, during the second visit, was nicer (i.e., better site length and spacing). The campground location makes a trip to the historic areas of Charleston relatively easy, but due to the noise, outdated facilities and infrastructure as well as you can't reserve a specific site [nor will they tell you the site they assigned to you, until you arrive at the campground] - we don't find this campground overly desirable. However, the campground does have some big rig friendly sites. We camped at Oak Plantation Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

Date of Stay: January, 2018 - $50.00
Overall Rating:

We stayed here 3 weeks in April/May 2017. Its a large park with a great variety in site conditions. We had a concrete pad site that was level, but on small side considering cost. No trees although we asked for a site with trees due to having a pet in the RV and there were tree sites open close to us most of the time. We had July temps while there so were not happy having no shade after a 3 week commitment while those coming in for a night or two got shaded sites. Grounds are very well kept. Restrooms often had clogged toilets that stayed that way a while, but other wise clean. Nice but small laundromat considering how many sites are here. The reason we will never come back here is the location. It is on 4 lane road that stays busy all day long and is at a very popular left turn to the coast so turning left out of the park to go to Charleston is pretty much impossible. You must turn right, take a right to the next road, do a U-Turn and come back to the light to turn left to Charleston. The other reason is heavy traffic to Charleston. One morning after taking 45 minutes to drive about 5 miles towards Charleston we just gave up and went back to the campground. Talking to our neighbors they had also done the same thing before. So we started looking for things to do away from Charleston. We did like Charleston even though on a good day it took a while to get there, and will return, but not at this campground due to location. We camped at Oak Plantation Campground in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

Parking in Charleston is a bit of a challenge so we used the enclosed visitor parking the the visitors center and walked to were we wanted to go. Great city to walk around and you see much more than if driving looking for spots to park. If you drive a short distance from the rv park to the right towards Savannah, there is a small but interesting wildlife refuge with well maintained hiking trials.
