We made reservations approximately three months in advance-- requesting two things: a level site with satellite usage available. Upon arrival we discovered that the site we had been assigned would not allow for satellite dish use, but even more of a concern was the fact that trees lined one side of the site-- allowing the rv to park but not allowing slide-out deployment without scraping in the trees. The office staff then re-assigned us to another site-- with even less chance of satellite use. Discussions with the park manager only elicited the comment: "How would I know about the trees and lack of satellite in those sites-- nobody ever complained before".
Fortunately, the camp host was exceptionally helpful and assigned us to another site that allowed us to use the satellite dish.
--Two days of light to medium rain flooded many of the sites and standing water was still in place when we departed. Several long-term residents discussed with us the unabated problem of mosquitos during warm weather.
-- Our site had five (5) fire ant hills (we treated them on our own). Several long-term residents discussed with us the continuous problem of fire ants-- a potential life threatening problem to anyone with allergy problems.
-- Virtually zero understanding or information from office staff. This is either a training problem or individual attitudes. With either it reflects a management or leadership (or both) problem. Several long-term residents indicated that that is certainly nothing new.
-- Bottom line: Standing water, insect problems and lack of interest in customer support make this a famcamp NOT worth the fuel to drive to. We will NOT return. - flrvers466
Aug 2015 - $20.00
Stayed here 3 nights while touring Charleston.
Unisex showers & toilet in a trailer. Laundry also in the trailer. Each unit is small and in need of a cleaning. Trash not emptied, did not see any cleaning during our stay.
Grass in dire need of mowing.
Commissary, exchange, and service station on base.
Easy 30 minute drive into Charleston, a bit longer during rush hours.
MWR on base with discount tickets available. - thetravelkids
May 2015 - $20.00
Clean, level, good location with good sites. Close to Charleston. Good areas around neighborhood to walk my dog. Only downfall was laundry was not working but camp host directed us to another facility within a 1/2 mile. - buckingthenorm
Jul 2016 - $41.00
A good place for a stop-over but nothing exceptional about this KOA. A variety of space lengths meant everyone had a spot that fit their length including tow vehicles.
Call in person to make your reservations and they will be sure to reserve a space that is the right length for your RV and tow vehicle. - Scldg
Jun 2016 - $47.00
Spaces a little tight getting in and out. Sewer not in convenient location. Used dump station when leaving rather than backing up to be able to reach outlet. Office very helpful. Had a site with concrete pad, propane grill, and wicker furniture. - JERRY & ANN TARHEEL
Apr 2016 - $41.00
This KOA is full of long term residents that don't worry about cleaning up their sites. We where in C-8; one of the very few that have a concrete patio. Most sites are dirt and have lots of leaves. Might be OK for a short time, not any place we would want to stay very long. - wrready2
Dec 2015 - $23.00
We have been here three years in a row and stayed at least a month each time. Campground is clean and spacious. Camp hosts could not be better. The only downside other than aircraft noise, which we get used to, is that the wifi does not work at all in the campground. We will have been here a month this trip and the only way we can get online is to go to the MWR office with the laptop or tablet. Tv is over the air and leaves much to be desired but Charleston has so much to do and eat, we don't miss tv. - Bojangles
Nov 2014 - $23.00
This is our second stay at this park and we will be back. Everything works and the camp hosts are friendly and helpful. Since it is located very near the runway used by both commercial airlines and military aircraft, there is noise. Otherwise it would be a solid 10. - Bojangles
Oct 2014 - $23.00
Pretty good... some sites are better than others. We had Electric and Water at $23/night, which is a bit high when compared to other military campgrounds. But if you want to stay in the Charleston area for just a few day this is probably a good deal. Well situated. Would stay again. - Consuelo Heath
Jan 2016 - $475.00
This is Not a RV resort. So, if that's what your looking for try one of the other RV parks in the Charleston area. My space is Huge with 50 AMP electrical, water, and sewer. The owner is very accommodating and helpful. They seem to cater to monthly rentals, which is exactly what I needed. Currently the RV park is full and would guess they have a very low turn-over of tenants. - tizzyfit
Feb 2005 - $35.00
This Park in North Charleston. The owner accused me of switching from 30 amp to 50 amp then raised my rent 20.00. When I got there he had electric boxes on the ground with my electric running to the next site. Any one knows 30 to 50 will blow something. He called me a liar I took him to small claims court unfotunately I had to leave early. The owners know nothing of running a Park. Fine example of a owner thinking you want to steal something from them. This seems to be quite a few campgrounds like this. Fain's RV, another one on my worst list. - booboo
Aug 2016 - $45.00
This was a last minute decision for us to stay. We were headed to Patriot's Point and this campground was right off the main highway. The worst part of the campground was the turn off of the main highway. Once you get past that the campground itself was very clean with great staff. The woman at the front desk was very helpful with finding us information on Patriot's Point and giving us suggestions for parking the rv there. The sites were mostly level and have a decent amount of space between them. Everyone who was staying there seemed very friendly. It was very quiet. - coldwaterconch
Aug 2016 - $48.00
This is a very nice, clean, spacious campground that is well maintained and quiet. We stayed for a week in the back section.
-Clean and quiet
-Spacious park that never feels crowded
-Long pull through sites on a level white gravel base
-Drains quickly after rain
-Good mix of long-term and short-term guests
-On site propane refill
-Publix grocery store just down the street
-Lots of trees for some spots. We had to move to a new spot so our dish would see clear sky.
-Back section is a long drive from the front of the park (where the pool and entry/exit are).
-Left turn into and out of the campground is practically impossible and is dangerous at times.
-Driving to Charleston or Patriot's Point takes a minimum of 30 minutes and close to an hour during busy times of the day. Plan on 60-90 minutes of driving time (or more) each day if you want to go to Charleston or the beaches.
-Other than the Publix, not much within a 10 minute radius of the campground.
In spite of all the negatives, we had considered returning here and staying longer - perhaps a month. However, the biggest negative, and the reason we will not return, is the horrible hydrogen sulfide (rotten egg) smell in the water. I have smelled hot springs in Yellowstone that were fresher than this! In less than a week, we could see black marks in our toilet from the water and by the end of the week the smell was so bad we didn't want to use the shower! The office said "its safe to drink, welcome to the Low Country." Even if it is safe, which I question given the intensity of the odor, it isn't safe for plumbing and its just gross on top of that.
This horrible water is the reason for the 2 star rating I gave for cleanliness (the rest of the part was very clean). It is the first RV campground where I would not use the campground water. - Bryanmsi
Aug 2016 - $44.00
This was a very nice park. The roads were well-maintained and the sites were spacious and level. The staff is very helpful and friendly and do a good job handling things at the park. The park is quite large but there is only one laundry room with four washers and two driers in the front of the property - another laundry room in the back of the property would be really good. The pool is quite nice and is located at the front of the property, so if you are in the back section, it is quite a walk to the pool. The location of the park is great - 15 minutes from Charleston and the beach. - PBW
Jul 2016 - $33.00
This could be a very nice campground. The sites are level. The people are nice. They have a nice pool and a fish pond (catch & release - no license required), with a park bench and several picnic tables so you can watch the ducks, frogs and turtles. BUT: the roads are narrow and not maintained. There are huge potholes that fill up with muddy water when it rains, and there are a lot of permanent and seasonal residents who don't keep their RVs or their sites clean. Not worth the price, even with Passport America. We won't be coming back. - mrpeepers
Jul 2016 - $40.00
Checked in after hours. No reservation information posted. Another motor home had the same issue. I pulled into the first site that was available. Appeared to concentrate on long term clients, not nightly. Dirt pads.
Left in the morning without being able to meet any staff.
One visit will be my last. - Mbv-20145
Jun 2016 - $28.00
Very nice RV resort with gravel roads and sites with grass areas and table. A ½ mile away from highway. Surround by big trees so very quiet, but open sites in center. Sites with and without trees. Mostly big rig pull thru with FHU. Free open Wi-Fi, good cell signal, satellite TV signal in most sites but no cable TV. No game room or club house. Nice small swimming pool, fishing pond, playground, laundry and picnic pavilion. No scheduled activities. Staff friendly and helpful. Be aware of extra charges using PA. $5.00 electric charge on all sites, sewer is extra $3.00 and 50 amp is extra $3.00. With the SC Tax of 11.5% my $17 site cost $32. - Pepper Dan
Aug 2016 - $66.00
Returned to park for 5th year running.Large level sites. Roads good. Park has all the enjoyment activities that are expected at a park. This one adds boats, paddle board, canoes, fishing, LARGE dog park with access to water to swim in. Close to Charleston and beaches. Numerous tent sites and cabins. - trims
Jun 2016 - $66.00
This campground is little more expensive than some others in the area but we can usually count on a quality campground when we stay at a KOA and this one did not disappoint. We stayed 2 nights at this campground and enjoyed our site near the lake. The benches by the lake offered a relaxing place to sit and enjoy the evening. The staff was friendly and helpful. We always appreciate when the KOA staff takes the time to escort their guest to their site as part of the check in. The showers which are separate from the restrooms could use a little updating, but they were clean and easy to use. The WIFI worked most of the time and the cable worked well. The nature trail through the woods was unique and an interesting walk. They rent canoes, kayaks and paddle boats, but they are expensive and I did not see anyone using any while we were there. On the 2nd morning we noticed red ants crawling on the motorhome. I sprayed the motorhome and the ground but it took several days to get rid of them. The pool was clean and inviting and we enjoyed playing ping pong in the rec hall. This is a good campground if you are visiting Charleston, FT. Sumter or Patriots point. We would stay here again if we visit the Charleston area again. - Freelander1
Jun 2016 - $35.00
Very level site, amazing dog park, lots of activities to do. Will stay again. Staff very helpful. Staff assisted us to our site. Was a back-in but he made it a pull-through for us. Very proactive and friendly staff. - Navybrat
Jul 2016 - $50.00
We thoroughly enjoyed this park. Great location between Charleston and Folly Beach. Your camping car pass gets you free parking at Folly Beach County Park and into other Charleston County parks in the area: a nice unanticipated perk. Sites are level gravel/sandy types sites and mostly shaded. Bike trails around the park are paved and mostly shaded. Fishing pier is nice, even got to see a couple of dolphins there one evening. Would definitely stay again. - cdjcwhite
Jun 2016 - $40.00
This is a great park!! Tons of paved biking trails that were mostly shaded. A huge water park is walking distance from the campground. Probably will not get satellite reception but i got lucky. Very convenient to Charleston but was a little dicey coming in at rush hour on Hwy 17. Very peaceful park and would definitely stay again. - Kelly_J
Jun 2016 - $43.00
We always come to James Island in June as a large group of family and friends. This is also one of our favorite parks. We always enjoy walking and bike riding the many miles of trails the park has to offer. The park is always clean, the staff is friendly and knowledgeable. Most of the sites are level, easy to access and most are well shaded. Some of the sites hold water if it rains. Some of the sites are in need of having gravel added. The main roads in the campground are paved and the sites are packed gravel. Service is 50 amp, water pressure is good, tv gets about 12 OTA channels. AT&T cell service is good as is LTE. We did use the laundry facilities. The washers did ok but several of the dryers did not get hot enough to dry. Bath house was clean each time I visited. They could use a No Smoking sign in them as the urinals always had cigarette butts in them. We did visit McLeod Plantation during our stay. I did inquire if there was a discount for those staying at the campground, but there is not. (Both McLeod and the campground are owned by Charleston county) Bicycles are the best mode of transportation. - dtaylor

Apr 2016 - $21.00
Great campground, right on the shore of Lake Moultrie. Roomy sites, some on the shoreline. Shoreline sites are on concrete pads; remaining sites are dirt. Could be a problem during heavy rain. Sites were level and maintained. Our site had a picnic table and a fire ring. Small shopette. LP and firewood sold. Boat rentals. Cabins available for rent, similar to KOA cabins. Bathrooms were cleaned and stocked each day during the week. We stayed Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday so we can't comment on how things work on the weekends. We enjoyed our three-day stay, and we'll definitely stay here again. - tomnorman457
Jun 2013 - $22.00
The campground could use some updating, sewer and cable. A little more policing of camper sites. A lot of excessive gear cluttering sites. Good spot for a short stay. - Rcstpugs
Mar 2009 - $22.00
Not a huge campground but fun for a weekend getaway. Bathroom facilities need an overhaul. Great place for kids with playground and swimming available. - heartspuntreasureprimitives
Jun 2016 - $15.00
Small campground. 25 spacious sites. Seven sites have full hookups. Remainder have water and electricity. Dump station is easily accessible as you leave the campground. Numerous tent sites in the woods. RV sites are packed gravel/sand. Roads are packed sand. There were heavy rains prior to our arrival. Workers were spreading sand on the roads to smooth them out. Brand-new electrical utility connections worked perfectly. Water and sewer connections worked fine. Excellent television reception. Virtually no AT & T cell coverage. No wi-fi. Bathrooms were ok, but in need of updating. No trash receptacles in the campground. Dumpster facility accessible as you leave the campground. NOTE: bring lots of mosquito repellent! Mosquitos were aggressive and abundant, especially along the trails through the woods. - tomnorman457
Jan 2016 - $15.00
Stayed 3 days. Campground host, was very nice & accommodating. All dirt roads with potholes. Sites are packed dirt which on rainy days would be very messy. Very overgrown trees & shrubs at sites. Only E&W (30 amp). Walked through tent & cabin areas which looked very nice. Bathroom & showers were kept clean. Area to dispose of trash is a long distance away from sites. Personally would not camp here again. - rvgirl54
Aug 2015 - $15.00
We arrived after work on Friday and were greeted by a very nice ranger who checked us in quickly. We had no troubles finding the site or hooking up. Everything was great about the campground, there were no 'frills' but there was absolutely nothing wrong with it. In fact, it was very quiet with spacious sites.
The state park is beautiful with opportunities to hike or walk the 1.5 mile trail.
The trash is out by the park exit but if leaving the park or going for a walk it isn't too bad.
Restrooms were well kept, we saw people in there 2x a day cleaning. There is only one restroom/shower house in the campground, we had the farthest site but it was only 0.22 mile round trip.
The park office has board games for campers to borrow but there hours are limited (11-12am and 4-5pm) so you have to plan to get in there.
For a family with 2 young children it was perfect as the kids could ride their bikes and there were hardly any cars. - MVP
