Nice level site facing the lake. Plenty of room to walk the dog. I only stayed 1 night. Getting out to Hwy 17 is a challenge, the traffic is terrible! The staff was very nice. We camped at Mount Pleasant / Charleston KOA in a Motorhome.

Overall Rating:

This was our first stay at a KOA. We stayed here for a softball tournament at the new Shipyard Park right up Hwy 41 (12 minutes away). We needed a late check-in Friday night but they were very accommodating and had all necessary information out for us. Despite the time, they even came out to show us to our site specifically. Our site was very level albeit a bit short for my TV/TT combo but we did fit. You can tell all of the rain the Low Country is receiving right now is making it difficult for them to keep the grounds maintained and roads in decent shape. (Grass needed to be cut and roads were pretty muddy but they can't help with weather.) The have tons to do with basketball, swimming pool, fishing pond, boat rentals, etc. They also have ICE, Propane, and a camp store that seemed to have a good variety of items. They also allowed a late check-out on Sunday afternoon for a small fee. We camped at Mount Pleasant / Charleston KOA in a Travel Trailer.

Tips for other Campers:

Conveniently located to many great areas in Charleston/Mt. Pleasant. Try out Red's on Shem Creek or Page's Okra Grill for great eats. New Shipyard Park in less than 15 minutes away so it's great for the softball/baseball travel crowd.

Excellent location. Staff is friendly and helpful. Site was level. Connections were well positioned with the exception of sewer which was a good distance away. Unfortunately, with a little rain the entire campground becomes a mudhole. Understand that there had been quite a bit of rain but there were obvious low spots in need of attention. Needs major regrading and stone spreading and/or blacktop or concrete of roads and sites. WiFi was unreliable. It was slow but eventually quit working entirely. We camped at Mount Pleasant / Charleston KOA in a Travel Trailer.

Tips for other Campers:

Presents alternatives to downtown Charleston. Access roads take you to nearby shopping and restaurants without going back out on the highway. Patriot's Point is a great location for ferry to Fort Sumter and Water Taxi to downtown Charleston, though parking for the Water Taxi cost $12, parking for Fort Sumter was only $5. USS Yorktown, USS Laffey, and USS Clamagore are available to board and tour.

A nice KOA with the camping feel that you get to enjoy but still close to all of the hot spots in Charleston. The park has a nice lake with fishing, boating, etc. as well as the normal KOA amenities. The sites are gravel, but flat and most are long enough for a full size rig and a tow vehicle. They park offers cable and their wifi worked most of the time. You pay a little extra at a KOA, but you typically get a decent park with lots of activities for the family and a good atmosphere. This park is no exception. We will stay here again when in the area. This was our first time at this KOA. This is a beautiful well maintained KOA. We arrived coming north on US17 and had no trouble finding the road leading to the park. Going south when departing there was a service road to take which came out at a road with a traffic light so we could make a left turn safely onto US17 south. We camped in a 32 foot motorhome. Very nice park, close to Charleston and other historical sites. Stayed six days. Level sites and big rig friendly. When leaving the park, I found it a lot easier to turn either right or left at the stop sign and go to the next cross street and you will come out to Hwy 17 at a traffic signal. Staff very friendly and helpful. We camped at Mount Pleasant / Charleston KOA in a Motorhome.

Stayed four days. Very clean. A bit busy, but the lake and nearby water park account for a lot of traffic. A bit pricey, even for a KOA. thank you to the previous reviewer who told us about the easier exit. going straight out the driveway will cause you to set at a stop sign and wait for the bust street to clear....a long wait. We turned left at the KOA exit and took a "mall road' behind the Walmart and we were able to turn right onto a connector and the enter the highway from a stoplight. Very friendly staff. Excellent WiFi and cable has just been updated to fiber optics. All spots are unpaved but level. Premium spots have small concrete patios but we don't think it's worth the extra money. There's a large lake that's wonderful to sit by. Very serene and relaxing. As are most KOA's the park is older but it's very clean. Rates are somewhat pricey but probably because of the location. Overall, a good value. We stayed here 5 nights. We camped at Mount Pleasant / Charleston KOA in a Fifth Wheel.

Tips for other Campers:

Stores are close and convenient. A Walmart is about a quarter mile away and can be accessed by bicycle without using the main road. However, there are no close bike paths or lanes in the road, We tried to ride to a nearby plantation but the roads were so narrow is was extremely unsafe. It seemed the drivers weren't very observant or tolerant of bicyclists. Overall, a very nice KOA. We enjoyed our stay here.

The campground is maintained by a well-equipped, attentive, friendly staff. The grounds are clean! We were in site B22, one of two options open for a last minute booking . This site faces west so it gets afternoon sun with no shade. We'd recommend 52 or 46 for shade and less traffic. The nature trail provides 1.5 miles of shade for ideal dog walking and there's a secure dog park with water access! It's amazing! We will be back! Date of Stay: January, 2018 - $65.00
Overall Rating:

Great park! Beautiful little lake and a nice hiking trail of about 1.3 miles. Huge dog park and "doggy beach." Very well kept facilities and tons of things to do in the park. Clean. Fantastic staff are always out and about working to keep this place nice. There was a water main break the last day we were here and they had it fixed in no time at all. Also, when we had an emergency health issue with one of our dogs and had to leave a day early, the front desk refunded one night's fee. I didn't even ask and wasn't expecting it, but when I went in and said my site would be open a day early as I had to leave, the man offered the refund, no questions asked. Conveniently located about 20 minutes from downtown, but as there is so much to do close by, we only went into the city once in 6 days. Several nice restaurants within 5-10 minutes, plus lots of shopping. A couple of things would make this a 10 instead of a 9 in my book. The sites and interior roads can get muddy in the rain. Some more gravel might help. A few of the sites have level/slightly uphill runs to the sewer. And of course, cost. I know KOAs are always among the higher priced parks, but it does get pricey to stay here. That said, they offer a lot for the money. Other: strong Wi-Fi; good OTA TV reception; strong Verizon signal. Didn't hook up cable, so no idea of its quality. If you stay in one of the sites near the office (20, 32, 41) you have a lot of room, but also a lot of traffic and noise. The propane refill station was going all day long! Plus you have everyone checking in, plus the dump station action. Much quieter towards the back or by the lake. Price is for a Premium site. They are adding concrete patios to several sites. I would stay here again. We camped at Mount Pleasant / Charleston KOA in a Fifth Wheel.

Stayed here for New Years. First site we were on #1, pull thru and level, but issue was tv -Espn. All cable channels were analog and dicent but channel #7 fuzzy. They allowed us to move to#15 and same situation. Park is 10 miles from historic district via hwy17. Park clean and level saw-big rigs, & tt. Plenty for kids to do. Clean bathhouse and nice front office with propane available, firewood and more. We camped at Mount Pleasant / Charleston KOA in a Travel Trailer.

We stayed 3 nights. Very nice overall. The setting was outstanding (old Plantation with trees and lake) and quiet area. The sites were nice and wide with grass buffers between sites. Our gravel site was level and well maintained with good gravel coverage. They offered individual private bathhouses that were nice and kept very clean. The office had a well stocked store and the staff was great and very helpful. The only opportunity for this RV resort would be to expand their laundry facility as they could use a few more washers and dryers for the size of this park. Very clean and well maintained park. Much better than most KOAs. Staff very nice. Check in quick. We stayed in #7 for 2 nights. Only issue was not much gravel on patio, mostly Sandy dirt. Second site, #22, was shorter but adequate. Much more gravel..didn't bring dirt in. Would stay again. We camped at Mount Pleasant / Charleston KOA in a Motorhome.
