We aren't KOA kampers - I say this every time which is ironic since I must be staying at them a lot to keep saying that. I did this one reluctantly as the one we wanted - James Island - was booked. I booked by phone (recommend with KOAs) and they had placed us in site 12 (look at online map). Site 12 nice with big shade tree and view of lake (but also where they have a pet walk - odd spot since people fish here, too). The place is fairly cute, and well kept for a KOA. We were impressed. The sites can be a little close, but really not bad. We did not feel too close to our neighbors. Some sites no shade. The bathrooms, showers are great (someone said showers were small - they are normal size and worked great). Laundry also good, 3.50 for full wash/dry. A few workers so friendly, enjoyed that as we've had other KOA experiences. Lots of cabins - different types and some of them in really nice spots. Tenting sites also really nice and big, a few right on the lake. A nice dog area where they can get in water, too. Walking trail nice and decently long (needed bug spray all but once). No real good biking from here - tried to bike to Isle of Palms, but nervous on some roads with no sidewalk or designated path (drawback IMO). Some boat things to rent but oddly ran out of lifejackets the time we wanted to paddle boat. Pool a little small, but nice enough. Hours limited. Felt like 2 different areas for RVS - ours near lake and the other in front of office. The deluxe sites were not all equal IMO. I don't know if I think they were worth it or not. We actually didn't feel price was too bad - we've paid more for lesser KOAs. Yes, I recommend. We camped at Mt. Pleasant / Charleston KOA in a Travel Trailer.

Tips for other Campers:

We did plenty between Mt. Pleasant, Shem creek and Charleston while there. Hwy 17 can be congested, Rifle Range Road is good alternative depending on where you are headed. Walmart very close (bike-able or drivable) for supplies (Also, bus service into Charleston from here if you prefer).

We chose this site to see the total eclipse of 2017. This is by far the best campground we have ever visited for a lot of reasons. They don't just have a "lake". They have a very large, very beautiful lake for boating and fishing. They have an amazing nature trail. It is quite different in that the path is very well marked and you can bike or walk through it. All of the facilities are immaculate and extremely well maintained. It seems like they clean the showers and toilets every few minutes. The pool is small, but hasn't been crowded in spite of them being totally booked up for the eclipse. Finally, the staff were absolutely the best. We had a problem with our motorhome and had to move into a cabin for the last night. The cabins are extremely comfortable and well furnished. I've stayed in less comfortable Hyatt Regency hotels. We camped at Mt. Pleasant / Charleston KOA in a Motorhome.

This RV park was fine - just overpriced for our needs. KOAs are always "resort-priced" it seems, but transient adults like us don't really want or use all those features that we are paying for (wagon rides, playground, paddleboats, etc) It was a nice enough stop for a couple of days and the folks in the office were super .. very friendly and helpful. And there was some decent bike-riding along quiet side streets, which was a plus for us. We camped at Mt. Pleasant / Charleston KOA in a Motorhome.

We stayed a little over 2 weeks and the overall the campground was very nice. My biggest disappointment was with a few of the staff in the office. We have friends and family in the area and invited them over for drinks a few times. The staff wanted to charge our visitors a "visitor fee" and when I questioned the fee, I was told they prefer we meet family and friends outside the campground. I was very insulted and still can't understand the thought process for charging a visitor who is NOT spending the night. We camped at Mt. Pleasant / Charleston KOA in a Motorhome.

This is one of the better KOA's we have stayed in - very clean park with a friendly and helpful staff, and there is a big staff which explains the rather hefty cost, in addition to the ideal location for seeing the ever popular Charleston. Kamp K-9 for dogs is wonderful and a dog lover's treat. Still, we could not help thinking 65 bucks for a back in with no sewer (and next to a storage) was quite overpriced. We camped at Mt. Pleasant / Charleston KOA in a Motorhome.

when leaving park to get on highway take a left b4 the highway and go around the shopping center then take a right which will take you to a light otherwise hard to get out either way with traffic. Ask office. We camped at Mt. Pleasant / Charleston KOA in a Motorhome.

Very clean and well run park. Friendly staff. We had a premium site which was large enough to accommodate our 37' MH and tow vehicle. Good separation between sites and the sites themselves are slightly staggered so that all the MH are not parked parallel to each other. Wifi was good although much slower during the weekend. Cable was grainy, we used our satellite instead. The park has a 1.2 mile nature trail which is well maintained as well as a large lake with a frisbee golf course which is unusual to find but lots of fun. Located close to a main road in Mt. Pleasant that has all sorts of shops, stores etc yet the park is far away enough such that there is minimal if any road noise. 20 minute easy drive to the Charleston historic district. We camped at Mt. Pleasant / Charleston KOA in a Motorhome.

There a few premium pull through sites that look unto the lake. KOA doesn't allow you to reserve specific sites ahead of time but ask at check in desk if one is available and you might get lucky

Our 2nd visit here. Super clean and really nice people working here. We arrived at 9:02 p.m. but the office stayed open for us and we were still escorted to our site. Large enough site for our 32' motorhome and a rental car with plenty of room to spare. Enough space between units or Kabins so we didn't feel like sardines. Just a couple of blocks off the main drag to Charleston and very quiet. Nice small lake (catch and release), large dog park, disc golf, pool, and adjacent fun park. The most amazing thing is that the Wi-Fi actually works and works well. The exception was Saturday evening when the campground was filled to the gills, the other six days were great. I also experienced the "low def" almost unviewable cable TV so we just used our antenna for weather reports. I didn't set up the dish. It sure ain't cheap, but I'd stay here again (and again) when in Charleston. We camped at Mt. Pleasant / Charleston KOA in a Motorhome.

Date of Stay: November, 2016 - $66.00
Overall Rating:

Very pleasant lightly wooded campground with a lake. Far enough from US 17 to reduce the traffic noise. Asphalt access roads, mostly level gravel sites. Big rigs need to use caution around the entrance gate coming into the campground (need to swing to the right - looks like they bulged the road here to make room for a gate, but they didn't extend the bulge far enough past the gate to allow a big rig to stay on the pavement). Exit to US 17 is by turning either left or right when leaving the campground (direct access to US 17 North is possible by going straight but is highly dependent on traffic). Going either left or right, there will be some low hanging branches and a fair amount of branches protruding from the sides. Big rigs will most likely need to hug the centerline (if not slightly over it) to avoid scraping. Power ok, water ok (70 psi), sewer ok. Campground wifi good signal with speed ranging from adequate to abysmal. TMobile LTE 2 bars with adequate speed. Verizon LTE 2 bars, did not check speed. Satellite access depends on the site. Single stream recycling on site. Ok road bike riding in campground and on some of the surrounding streets, but no immediate access to riad bike trails. We would stay here again. We camped at Mt. Pleasant / Charleston KOA in a Motorhome.

Great location for north of Charleston, Patriot Point and 25 minutes from Charleston Marketplace. All kinds of businesses on 17 to Charleston with many basket stands enroute to Charleston - easy to deal with than the marketplace.

This campground is little more expensive than some others in the area but we can usually count on a quality campground when we stay at a KOA and this one did not disappoint. We stayed 2 nights at this campground and enjoyed our site near the lake. The benches by the lake offered a relaxing place to sit and enjoy the evening. The staff was friendly and helpful. We always appreciate when the KOA staff takes the time to escort their guest to their site as part of the check in. The showers which are separate from the restrooms could use a little updating, but they were clean and easy to use. The WIFI worked most of the time and the cable worked well. The nature trail through the woods was unique and an interesting walk. They rent canoes, kayaks and paddle boats, but they are expensive and I did not see anyone using any while we were there. On the 2nd morning we noticed red ants crawling on the motorhome. I sprayed the motorhome and the ground but it took several days to get rid of them. The pool was clean and inviting and we enjoyed playing ping pong in the rec hall. This is a good campground if you are visiting Charleston, FT. Sumter or Patriots point. We would stay here again if we visit the Charleston area again. We camped at Mt. Pleasant / Charleston KOA in a Motorhome.
