This park is great! It is clean, well-maintained, and quiet. The roads are spacious enough to navigate comfortably, even when the campground is at capacity. The lot we stayed on backed up to the woods and was very spacious. The WiFi is not great; nor is Verizon cellular coverage. The bath houses were nice and clean. The only drawback worth noting is the single, two-lane rd in and out of the campground. Traffic backs up QUICK waiting on the dump stations within 2 hours of check-out time on a busy weekend. Overall, LOVED IT! We will definitely stay here again in the future. We camped at Huntington Beach State Park in a Travel Trailer.

Access the beach from the campground, not the main public parking where the store and picnic areas are located. The beach is A LOT less crowded!

Great beach location and especially that the beach is dog friendly! Florida and other states should learn from this, as it draws tourist dollars. Close enough to Charleston as a day trip or Myrtle Beach if you want tshirt shops. A bit pricey for a state park but worth it for the access to the ocean. We camped at Huntington Beach State Park in a Motorhome.

Nightly rate is before tax and fees. After adding those in, you're looking at $71/night for full hookup (30 amp only). I guess you are paying for the location on a decent beach because there is no way the camp ground is worth those prices. Narrow gravel sites with many being long enough for big rigs, but there are some trees overhanging sites and roads. Lots of traffic from cars and golf carts with many of the drivers not watching where they are going. Be aware when looking at a park map for making reservations that many of the host sites do not appear on the map. We thought we were getting a large side yard only to find out a campground host is about 10' away. Luckily the yard to the rear is large and shaded. The entire park is stupidly busy on weekends. Another ding is there is no dog bags or waste disposal anywhere in the park and only one location near the entrance for trash. One positive is the dog friendly beach (on leash only, but we walked to isolated areas and let our guys swim). First time visiting this area and have zero desire to return. Verizon is barely useable, many sites have clear sky view for satellite. We camped at Huntington Beach State Park in a Motorhome.

*Disclaimer* The rate may not be accurate, I can't remember exactly what we paid, but it was in the $25-35 range. Overall, this campground was wonderful. There were a couple glitches, but hopefully it was just specific to this visit and won't prevent us from returning. We picked this specific site (Which, btw, is a major plus for this part - site specific reservations) because of its proximity to the restrooms. Although we have a TT, we don't use our shower since it's our "closet" :) and we try to use the campground restrooms as much as possible. The restrooms were being remodeled and were closed until the next week after our stay. This meant that there were only 2 other restrooms (4 total toilets and 4 showers) for 133 sites plus the tent sites. It meant for long waits for showers and toilets at peak times. Also, we were given a wifi password, but if there was wifi, we never found it, no matter where we were in the park. Verizon signal was great tho. Also, the site we camped on (30) was a NIGHTMARE to back into. Unless you have popup or tear drop, or tent, I would advise you to avoid this site at all costs. Because of the angle, the posts and trees, it was impossible to back in without driving halfway into our neighbor across the way's site, and then back in. It was a good thing he was there and came out and moved his vehicle so we could access it or we would have never been able to do it. The restroom and wifi were things that we could live with because they were flukes, but the access to this site is something that would prevent us from staying there if it was the only site available. DONT DO IT if you have a TT or 5th wheel. The park itself is so peaceful and lovely. Wildlife, the beach, Atalaya Castle, the proximity to the great seafood at Murrell's Inlet, Myrtle Beach and Charleston a quick drive - made it all so worthwhile! We will def return, just NOT TO SITE #30. We camped at Huntington Beach State Park in a Travel Trailer.

Tips for other Campers:

If you like seafood, Drunken Jack's in Murrell's Inlet has great seafood and salad bar! Also, have your camera ready for the drive between the park entrance and the campground - the alligators are numerous and makes for great photos!

Stayed for 4 nights. This is an EXCELLENT State Park. Very clean and well kept. Breat bike trails that were flat; could ride bikes to Murrells Inlet for lunch and ice cream. Low key area with grocery near by. If you are a nature lover, this is a park for you. Bring your camera and binoculars for the birds and alligators. A wagon would be helpful to go to the beach. The beach was very nice and the wooden walkway to get there was nice as well. The walkway offers shower heads and foot sprayers to clean off when returning from the beach. Some sites were close and others had more room. Google earth will tell you what you need to know. We camped at Huntington Beach State Park in a Travel Trailer.

Definitely one of the best state parks in South Carolina. Great beach access and you can pretty much hear the ocean from all sites. Note: South Carolina residents get a 35% discount to the rate that I have listed . We camped at Huntington Beach State Park in a Travel Trailer.

Tips for other Campers:

Besides the ocean, a must-see is Brookgreen Garden on the opposite side of the highway. If you like walking trails with sculpture or a wildlife/ zoo trail, this is the place to go. Admission is very reasonable and is for seven consecutive days. Note: it takes more than a day to see it all.

The good-- sites are spacious, flat gravel, with picnic table, and fire pits, most are in shade of trees, great access to beautiful beach. Many nice walking paths and paved bike trails, nice marsh walks. The bad---Don't let the cost fool you. For 2 wks.stay it cost $745. This included Transaction fee-$27.16, accommodation tax $32.32, capital project tax $5.33, local accommodation tax $15.99. Out of 133 sites only 18 have full service with 3 of them taken by campground hosts, good luck trying to reserve one. All others have water and electric, which leaves you to a tote tank or the bath house. For the remaining 115 sites that leaves a total of 4 showers, 4 toilets, 2 urinals (for men). One of the bath houses was under renovation. Even with the extra bath house this is TOTALLY inadequate. T.V. reception is poor, You may get NBC and FOX, if you have a dish make sure you're not sheltered by trees (many sites). WI-FI was worthless, most campers brought a chair to the bath house area where you could at least check e-mail. We will not be returning to this park. We camped at Huntington Beach State Park in a Travel Trailer.

This park is quite large and includes a long beautiful beach, with 3 separate access points (2 from the campground and 1 from the parking lot across from the office / store). The road into the park is long and goes over a causeway. On either side of the causeway you will see many birds (pelicans, herons, ibises, etc.) as well as a resident alligator. There are many trails throughout the park. The beach is also suitable for bike riding as it is hard packed sand and quite wide. Route 17 is busy and it can be difficult to pull in and out of the campground, especially if you have a large rig, or are towing. During the winter months, the gate is locked from 6 pm to 6 am, so if you do not arrive prior to that time, you will need the code to open the padlock. The code is changed once per month. The crazy thing is that the gate is close to the busy highway so you don't have much room to pull in. There are 3 main loops and the campground has some sites that are full service, but most are electric and water only. There are also some rustic tent sites and a back loop that is shadier. We preferred the sites along the right going in as they back up to the beach side and seem to be roomier. Those wanting satellite access and / or full service might prefer the inside loops. Most of the sites were a pretty good size. All of the interior roads are paved. They are working on one of the bathhouses (in the far loop) so that was out of service the entire time we were there (apparently the rebuild is taking 2-plus months). Thus there is high demand for toilets and showers in the 2 other bathhouses so you sometimes have to wait. They were cleaned every day but not sparkling clean and sometimes toilet paper ran out during the weekend. Sometimes there were issues with the showers not working (handle broken, etc.) These got fixed but its clear that they need some work. In spite of some negatives, its a beautiful location and we would definitely stay there again. We camped at Huntington Beach State Park in a Motorhome.

Loved this park. Right on the ocean with lots of open space. Short walk through the woods to the ocean beach. Lots of miles to walk on the beach. Sites are slightly wooded and private. Most all sites are back ins. This park is away from the hustle and bustle of Myrtle Beach so is much more quiet. Great bike paths going in either direction from the park. Park is quiet. Paved roads and gravel sites with fire ring and table. Did not want to leave but could not get a reservation. Will come back again. Get reservations if you go here. Paved roads and gravel sites mostly open with some shade although 1/4 are in the woods. Very interesting state park with long sandy beach open to dogs. Large beach area at north end dog free. Ruined Huntington winter home available to tour for $2. Far enough from Myrtle Beach to avoid beach crowds but close enough for a visit if desired. Loved this campground! Campsites are close walk/bike ride to ocean. We camped in the outer loop (in the more wooded area) and loved the privacy. A lot of ants so come prepared! (Park also will spray your site if you ask!) WiFi ok by restrooms-didn't really care because we were there for the beach and biking trails!! Cannot wait to camp here again very soon! There are loads of stores on nearby Rt. 17 Business and Rt. 17 Bypass. Across from Huntington is the world-famous Brookgreen Gardens which had its sculpture gardens decorated with thousands of Christmas lights. Just down the road is Pawley's Island where the famous rope hammocks are handmade and is a charming store.

Nice park, typical of a well run State Park - just a 2 or 3 minute walk to the uncrowded ocean beach via trails & boardwalks. Lots of trees - many sites have some shade. Most sites are on the outside of large loops with bathhouses in the center of loop. That leaves plenty of room behind you, but the WiFi located at the bathhouses doesn't seem to reach all sites. If WiFi is important, get a site close to a bathhouse. My cell phone hot spot worked OK via AT&T. The bathhouses could be better. No paper towels or hot air hand dryer, and it takes a minute or two for the hot water to reach the showers. Showers are a bit cramped, and have some cracked & broken tiles, but are OK even if it's about time for an update. Camp store looked fairly well-stocked, and also serves as the check-in site. We camped at Huntington Beach State Park in a Motorhome.

We are fortunate to have a family place in Murrells Inlet. Huntington is where we go to be on the beach. We love this park. It is clean, the staff are top notch and it's gorgeous. This is the first time we have camped there. It's difficult to get into, reserve far in advance. It's no wonder why it's so popular. Great sites, easy to back into. Easy access to the beach. They have WiFi, it didn't work at our site but that wasn't a big deal. Just FYI, the WiFi towers are on the bath houses if you really want access.
