Being members of Brookgreen Gardens, we were excited when they installed 50 amp service in the park and booked immediately. First, the negatives: The new area was poorly designed, to get in as many RV's as possible. Sites do not accommodate the size of RV's that use 50 amp. Our 39' motorhome took all the site backed to the very edge and still we had to park the car sideways in front of RV to stay out of road. No space for mat or chairs. No shade or landscaping. The distance between RV's is uncomfortably close, preventing us from enjoying outside stereo. Cars whiz by on the narrow drive with people on bikes, kids, pets. With no walk area, you're forced to go thru sites. The blacktop drive heats up so don't attempt barefoot, you or pets. Now some positives: Picnic table area pads better than RV pad. On same pad is nice table and secured fire ring, 2 light hook poles. However, most are placed awkwardly behind sites. Bathhouse new, nice. Walkways to beach available, along with areas to bike. Office has soft drinks, snacks tourist gifts, stores outside of park. Brookgreen less than 5 minutes. We may go again to allow time for break-in. For us it was too much like staying in an expensive, crowded parking lot. We camped at Huntington Beach State Park in a Motorhome.

Spacious uncrowded sites. Clean grounds and bath houses. Boardwalk from campground to beautiful beach. Lots of trees. We camp here every year...our favorite of all places we camp. Only negative this time...our site was under some kind of evergreen tree that constantly dropped needles all over RV and awning and clogged drainage rails on roof. No big deal though...just had to climb up on roof and sweep off everything when leaving. Very popular so make reservations well in advance to get a site. We camped at Huntington Beach State Park in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

Just south of Myrtle Beach, so there are plenty of restaurants (great seafood places in Murrell's Inlet close to the campground), and plenty of shopping nearby in Pawley's Island and Myrtle Beach areas.

Nice facility with good beach access. We stayed on site 138 on south RV lot because it was close to the south end of the beach, which allows dogs. Campers were quiet, mostly over 50, friendly and bathrooms were very nice and clean. Visit Atalaya (on site) and Brooktree Gardens (across road)! While bicycling, gator decided to take a walk on the path so the ranger had to shoo him back into the water--gator and his 2 other buddies were still fairly close to trail as we biked by, so be aware. The causeway road has beautiful birds and nice viewing areas. Definitely will go back. We camped at Huntington Beach State Park in a Motorhome.

Overall Rating:

I believe this is my first ever "10" rating for a campground. I'm quite picky when it comes to choosing a campground and can always find something not to my liking, but not this time. All of the staff we met, from the native Pittsburgher at the main gate, to the office staff, to those tasked with cleaning the restrooms, were all top notch and friendly. The first night I was a little miffed with the noise I was hearing from outside, but when I discovered it was the sound of the waves crashing several hundred feet away, I slept quite soundly. Everyone around us more than abided by the quiet hours, and there were no highway sounds from busy US 17. The roads into the campground were all paved and the sites were a combination of gravel/sand or all cement pads. Our site was a little off-level, but nothing that the auto levelers couldn't handle. The water pressure was very good and there were no fluctuations from the electric service. I did not use the restrooms, but I did a cursory inspection and they were very clean without the atypical odors that are found in most campground restrooms. We opted for no sewer for the three nights we camped and used one of three dump stations on our last morning. We don't have a satellite for TV (we would rather watch the wildlife, which included a Bald Eagle we saw one morning), but we did get a dozen or so channels from our small roof antenna. I would guess that the campground was less than 50% occupied, but this is our favorite time of the year to travel, so we are used to seeing empty sites. I can imagine that this State Park gets quite crowded in the summer, so things could change, but I was extremely happy with our time here. And who can complain when you pay $21.00 per night for such luxury accommodations? We camped at Huntington Beach State Park in a Motorhome.

The weather did not cooperate while we were here but the campground was nice. It's sheltered behind some dunes and there are a surprising number of trees, so don't expect to see the ocean from any of the sites. Our site was clean and level. Coming from the mountains, that was a nice surprise! This was only our second real outing with our camper, so we had to go buy a longer hose for our water hookup. The spigot was pretty far away from the site. I think we bumped up from a 10' hose to a 20' hose. The fire ring was a bit far away too. There was an evergreen tree really close to the camper that made it difficult to put our awning out, but on the plus side, it did offer shade. Our site only had water and electric, so we used the bathhouse for showers. It's a bit dated, but it is clean. Since we had rain showers on and off all weekend, the mosquitoes got vicious in the evening. I wonder if a site on the inside of the loop would have so many bugs since they're in more of a meadow; we backed up onto trees. The beach was maybe a 10-minute walk through the trees. We were there in the off-season and it was deserted, but I have a feeling that it never gets very crowded on this beach, especially when compared to the crowds at Myrtle Beach. We camped at Huntington Beach State Park in a Travel Trailer.

First time staying here. Loved it so much. Already booked a longer trip next year. Large sites. Roads easy to navigate most sites are fairly level already. Bring your bicycle or golf cart, there is a lot of area to see and a bicycle path to Murrels Inlet. Atala Castle is a must. Loved it. We camped at Huntington Beach State Park in a Travel Trailer.

Great beach location and especially that the beach is dog friendly! Florida and other states should learn from this, as it draws tourist dollars. Close enough to Charleston as a day trip or Myrtle Beach if you want tshirt shops. A bit pricey for a state park but worth it for the access to the ocean. This park is great! It is clean, well-maintained, and quiet. The roads are spacious enough to navigate comfortably, even when the campground is at capacity. The lot we stayed on backed up to the woods and was very spacious. The WiFi is not great; nor is Verizon cellular coverage. The bath houses were nice and clean. The only drawback worth noting is the single, two-lane rd in and out of the campground. Traffic backs up QUICK waiting on the dump stations within 2 hours of check-out time on a busy weekend. Overall, LOVED IT! We will definitely stay here again in the future. We camped at Huntington Beach State Park in a Travel Trailer.

Besides the ocean, a must-see is Brookgreen Garden on the opposite side of the highway. If you like walking trails with sculpture or a wildlife/ zoo trail, this is the place to go. Admission is very reasonable and is for seven consecutive days. Note: it takes more than a day to see it all.

Stayed for 4 nights. This is an EXCELLENT State Park. Very clean and well kept. Breat bike trails that were flat; could ride bikes to Murrells Inlet for lunch and ice cream. Low key area with grocery near by. If you are a nature lover, this is a park for you. Bring your camera and binoculars for the birds and alligators. A wagon would be helpful to go to the beach. The beach was very nice and the wooden walkway to get there was nice as well. The walkway offers shower heads and foot sprayers to clean off when returning from the beach. Some sites were close and others had more room. Google earth will tell you what you need to know. We camped at Huntington Beach State Park in a Travel Trailer.

*Disclaimer* The rate may not be accurate, I can't remember exactly what we paid, but it was in the $25-35 range. Overall, this campground was wonderful. There were a couple glitches, but hopefully it was just specific to this visit and won't prevent us from returning. We picked this specific site (Which, btw, is a major plus for this part - site specific reservations) because of its proximity to the restrooms. Although we have a TT, we don't use our shower since it's our "closet" :) and we try to use the campground restrooms as much as possible. The restrooms were being remodeled and were closed until the next week after our stay. This meant that there were only 2 other restrooms (4 total toilets and 4 showers) for 133 sites plus the tent sites. It meant for long waits for showers and toilets at peak times. Also, we were given a wifi password, but if there was wifi, we never found it, no matter where we were in the park. Verizon signal was great tho. Also, the site we camped on (30) was a NIGHTMARE to back into. Unless you have popup or tear drop, or tent, I would advise you to avoid this site at all costs. Because of the angle, the posts and trees, it was impossible to back in without driving halfway into our neighbor across the way's site, and then back in. It was a good thing he was there and came out and moved his vehicle so we could access it or we would have never been able to do it. The restroom and wifi were things that we could live with because they were flukes, but the access to this site is something that would prevent us from staying there if it was the only site available. DONT DO IT if you have a TT or 5th wheel. The park itself is so peaceful and lovely. Wildlife, the beach, Atalaya Castle, the proximity to the great seafood at Murrell's Inlet, Myrtle Beach and Charleston a quick drive - made it all so worthwhile! We will def return, just NOT TO SITE #30. We camped at Huntington Beach State Park in a Travel Trailer.

If you like seafood, Drunken Jack's in Murrell's Inlet has great seafood and salad bar! Also, have your camera ready for the drive between the park entrance and the campground - the alligators are numerous and makes for great photos!

Nightly rate is before tax and fees. After adding those in, you're looking at $71/night for full hookup (30 amp only). I guess you are paying for the location on a decent beach because there is no way the camp ground is worth those prices. Narrow gravel sites with many being long enough for big rigs, but there are some trees overhanging sites and roads. Lots of traffic from cars and golf carts with many of the drivers not watching where they are going. Be aware when looking at a park map for making reservations that many of the host sites do not appear on the map. We thought we were getting a large side yard only to find out a campground host is about 10' away. Luckily the yard to the rear is large and shaded. The entire park is stupidly busy on weekends. Another ding is there is no dog bags or waste disposal anywhere in the park and only one location near the entrance for trash. One positive is the dog friendly beach (on leash only, but we walked to isolated areas and let our guys swim). First time visiting this area and have zero desire to return. Verizon is barely useable, many sites have clear sky view for satellite. We camped at Huntington Beach State Park in a Motorhome.

Overall Rating:

This park is quite large and includes a long beautiful beach, with 3 separate access points (2 from the campground and 1 from the parking lot across from the office / store). The road into the park is long and goes over a causeway. On either side of the causeway you will see many birds (pelicans, herons, ibises, etc.) as well as a resident alligator. There are many trails throughout the park. The beach is also suitable for bike riding as it is hard packed sand and quite wide. Route 17 is busy and it can be difficult to pull in and out of the campground, especially if you have a large rig, or are towing. During the winter months, the gate is locked from 6 pm to 6 am, so if you do not arrive prior to that time, you will need the code to open the padlock. The code is changed once per month. The crazy thing is that the gate is close to the busy highway so you don't have much room to pull in. There are 3 main loops and the campground has some sites that are full service, but most are electric and water only. There are also some rustic tent sites and a back loop that is shadier. We preferred the sites along the right going in as they back up to the beach side and seem to be roomier. Those wanting satellite access and / or full service might prefer the inside loops. Most of the sites were a pretty good size. All of the interior roads are paved. They are working on one of the bathhouses (in the far loop) so that was out of service the entire time we were there (apparently the rebuild is taking 2-plus months). Thus there is high demand for toilets and showers in the 2 other bathhouses so you sometimes have to wait. They were cleaned every day but not sparkling clean and sometimes toilet paper ran out during the weekend. Sometimes there were issues with the showers not working (handle broken, etc.) These got fixed but its clear that they need some work. In spite of some negatives, its a beautiful location and we would definitely stay there again. We camped at Huntington Beach State Park in a Motorhome.

The good-- sites are spacious, flat gravel, with picnic table, and fire pits, most are in shade of trees, great access to beautiful beach. Many nice walking paths and paved bike trails, nice marsh walks. The bad---Don't let the cost fool you. For 2 wks.stay it cost $745. This included Transaction fee-$27.16, accommodation tax $32.32, capital project tax $5.33, local accommodation tax $15.99. Out of 133 sites only 18 have full service with 3 of them taken by campground hosts, good luck trying to reserve one. All others have water and electric, which leaves you to a tote tank or the bath house. For the remaining 115 sites that leaves a total of 4 showers, 4 toilets, 2 urinals (for men). One of the bath houses was under renovation. Even with the extra bath house this is TOTALLY inadequate. T.V. reception is poor, You may get NBC and FOX, if you have a dish make sure you're not sheltered by trees (many sites). WI-FI was worthless, most campers brought a chair to the bath house area where you could at least check e-mail. We will not be returning to this park.
